As I mentioned in another thread, I have a heap of material left over from building 1830 F-arc's. The f-arcs are made from good quality chikara ripstop and it is too good to just throw out, so I decided I needed to put it to good use. I have been playing with Surf Plan for a while now and although I can get a design that looks good, I have no idea if the design will fly or not. Then one day looking threw some old archived websites, I found a link to the surf plan design specs for a 6m p-arc. P-arc (P=parallel) was the original name of the F-arc, but was changed before release because Parc backwards is crap SurfPlan Download P-arc base.sle anywa…

.My Soul 12m is the best kite I’ve had but there is one thing about it that is really bothering me. That’s the pulley lines. before getting this kite new, I had the use of a borrowed Speed 3 12m for at least a year maybe more then I bought a second hand Speed 3 12m Deluxe, which again I had for a year maybe a bit more. I never even thought about the pulley lines, never occurred to me that they wore out or ever needed changing. The Soul on the other hand- well I’ve changed all four and before I had to change them again I noticed that the B pulley blocks were stuck and worn unevenly so I change one side and on the other side a thought I try an experiment and pu…

New single skin kite from Ozone for 2019 called the "Explore". It will be available in 4, 6, 9 & 12m and looks to be aimed as direct competition to the FS Peak. Manufacturer's blurb: "The new Explore by Ozone has something to offer for everyone. Consistent pull through the wind window, instant de-power, minimal upward lift, relatively slow flying speed, and damage-resistant single surface design make the Explore an amazing kite for entry level and intermediate riders. Advanced riders can push the boundaries - tight and dynamic or slow lazy loops can navigate difficult terrain while excellent drift allows riding down slopes without worring about the kite. For…

Following on from @.Joel $10,000 new kites post... What kites or gear do you wish you never purchased. Were they a waste of money, didn’t perform, out performed your flying ability or maybe spanked you so hard that they scare you to this very day. for me it’s Quiver of HQ Montana’s: they were nice kites, flew well and I learned on them. But once I tried a flysurfer speed 3 I realised what I should of been spending my money on. flysurfer boost 9m: my first lei kite, which I purchased for high winds. I have only flown it about 5 times. On the 5th time, in 22-25 knots, the chicken loop rolled off the harness hook And yanked my shoulder out of t…

Instead of the 'what first kite to buy?" discussions this is a little different You've been kiting for a while, if you were to start over again with the knowledge and experience you have now what would you buy with a $10,000 budget? For me personally my setup would be: GT-Race Rapide++ Peter Lynn Phantom V1 6M Ozone R1 V1 6M Ozone R1 V1 9M Ozone R1 V3/V4 15M I guess an explanation GT-Race Rapide++ I love this buggy, since getting the custom length and height down tubes it's so versatile. Peter Lynn Phantom V1 6M I own the V2 and whilst it's a great kite in the super gnarly winds I've always felt the V1 was a more stable kite. …

Hi, just curious if people could share links to the best Kiting Glossaries available? Bonus if they're more focused on power kiting A nifty new feature is expanded expressions, so for newbies they can over on terms like OBE or LEI and an explanation is provided. I'll make the underline a bit less intrusive as we go, just for good measure I also tested it out on Nigel and it seems to work a treat

I had a zipper on my 16m venom 2 give up on me last week. Bloody frustrating, as it was the inflate zipper and I was about to launch ?. The slide was so worn out that it won’t close the teeth anymore. anyway, I have fitted new waterproof zips to an arc before, but they can be a bit expensive and hard to find. So I thought it was a good chance to test out a Velcro alternative. its basically just a short sock and Velcro opening similar to the deflates in the flysurfer kites. the Velcro valves work quite well. I inflated the kite and slowly opened the Velcro. No air was escaping until it opened far enough to for the end of the sock to open. Sorry, no pic…

Gin Shaman

New snow kite from Gin called the Shaman. It looks like it's meant to be a replacement for the Eskimo but interestingly it's a hybrid single skin with cells on either end to increase stability rather than a conventional foil. It certainly looks very stable in the promo videos. It's available in the same sizes as the Flysurfer Peak 3 but I doubt it will be much competition for the Peak in Australia due to the cost. It'll be interesting to see how the European riders rate it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jODlnE6_AY&feature=youtu.be Peter Lynn Arc Kite Collection.mov This is my collection of Peter Lynn Arc kites. It all began with a couple of f-arcs a few years ago, that I picked up direct from the peter Lynn factory in NZ. The collection and my interest in arc kites quickly grew from there. The full list of kites shown in the video is below, but some of the rarest are the 24m Charger, 6m Hi-arc, and custom size f-arcs. There are also a few kites not included in the video as they are either doubles or in the post to me now (yes, the collection is still growing) Nearly all the kites have and do get flo…

Interesting new kite concept fron the venerable Steffen Born, a single skin DP kite flown with one hand from one handle with only bridle lines. In email conversation with Steffen he let me know that good propulsion in limited (narrow) spaces was on critical design requirement.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fNn3SR_vXcFrom Steffen: It`s a single skin depower kite with a one-hand control, without additional lines. Ideal for street kiting. It will be available from August in the sizes 2.0m, 4.0m and 6.0m. I absolutely love how Steffen continues to innovate. I'm a huge fan of his NS3s and LS2s and it appears that he has created another most interesting kite, purpose b…

Nathan Yun is making a documentary on Kite Zhang's Kites - I'm not quite sure how to describe this, it's kind of like a cross between exceptional meccano and kite making skills steeped in Eastern tradition....er..I think. It is fascinating to see both the kites and the detail in some of the constructions. Chook, you're gonna love this!! Check out the video here.... https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1747407323/kite-zhangs-kites-a-documentary-of-kinetic-kites Nathan has got a kickstarter page going where he's trying to raise funds to make this into a proper documentary that will help in keeping this art alive. I wish you all the best, Nathan.

This is an interesting development. Interesting to read they recommend it for land and water use but do not mention land use in a buggy. Perhaps it would be to difficult to use sitting down? I would like to hear people’s views on use in a buggy? What do you think? Couldn’t find a price either! https://ozonekites.com/products/wings/wasp-v1

New Freeride foil kite from Flysurfer called the Soul. Flysurfer continue to make some stunning looking kites, the Soul is available in 6M, 8M, 10M, 12M, 15M, 18M and 21M. It's a bit more nimble than a Speed 5 and offers easier single line relaunch so you can relaunch the foil just like an LEI off the water by simply pulling a single steering line. Whilst watching Coast New Zealand - we came across this lovely short video of the rather large gathering at New Brighton (Christchurch, NZ) for a Kite Festival. Lately when the winds have been off shore and the tides, shoddy..... @igeighty and myself have been static flying with a few other kite enthusiasts. I must say its a different experience kite flying static kites but I do miss the roar of the waves. Coast_-_Kites_1.mp4

So what is your favourite or best kiting food to get you going in the morning and keep you going well into the day for kiting? Here is what we have as a tradition on the weekends, 50% - %50 flour and ground oats pan cakes. Keeps us going till late afternoon. Served best with a spread of butter, stewed blue berries and cream on top, not to forget a strong cup of black coffee and good company. Variations include, toppings of either nutella, honey or lemon juice+icing sugar.

Steffen just let me know that Born-Kite is soon coming out with V-4 of his venerable Nasa kites, the NS4. The NS4s will feature better BODAPRE bridle lines, and as you can see below, a new color design. These bridle lines are the same material he introduced with the RaceStars. I own a complete quiver of RaceStars and really like this new bridle material and find it a vast improvement over his legacy bridle line material. More expensive per meter, and worth every Euro IMHO. According to Steffen, the NS4s will have a new profile, less bridling, new bridle material as mentioned above, and a new color scheme as seen below. I haven't seen it, but he told me that the new NS4…
