When it comes to single skin performance lets not forget the good old C-quad from Peter Lynn. I own 3 of them and while I don't get out on them much anymore I won't ever get rid of them for the special joy they always give me when I do use them. They are best described as Rev's on steroids. The stiff frame allows you to adjust the Angle Of Attack and you can really throw on the power part of de-power. Like no other kite I have flown! My 8.5m is an amazing low wind engine. The 4.2 is the true joy to fly in the mid 'teens. The one I enjoy the most. The biggest issue with this kite is the rods. They have a nasty habit of breaking. Usually when packing t…

Been thinking about arc kites a bit lately. One mod I would like to try is an anti invert / bow tie mods. But before I go to the trouble of fitting it up, I'm wondering if anyone has any feel back or suggestions based on the diagram alone. it shouldn't effect flagging out to safety and is easy swapped between kites. also wondering if it could be used to reduce the projected area, by pulling in the wing tips? Therefore giving a wider wind range. thoughts?

@the_hatman OBE. Heres a question for you or anyone else out that side of town.. do these 'dry' lakes warrant an exploration expedition ? https://www.google.com/maps/@-38.18149,143.6371,24487m/data=!3m1!1e3 the images from 2008 show a dry lake, 2010 was wet It is a 2 hour drive from here. I think i will go and have a look soon. it wouldn't be a wasted drive, as i know @Mez will be able to photo birds if its full of water Any dry lakes you guys know of that are dry at the moment ?

Flysurfer has updated their Infinity 3.0 Airstyle Bar Setup to now also come as a Clam Cleat option. There are no pulleys, instead using a single friction ring to run the line through to keep the bar setup clean. I've always liked the two strap option that the Airstyle bar setup came with, however on the Sonic2 I found it was quite difficult to depower at speed and under load, so then I bought a Flysurfer Race Bar setup. The downside of that was that it had waaaaayyyy to many pulleys and complication going on. Looks like for people who don't hydrofoil, this may be a good compromise when using the setup on the depower race kites.

I got myself a new sting this week and took it out today. Highly Disapointed. The reviews said it can handle high winds - tested to 50mph. It was very windy but no where near that!!! Literally 15 seconds in BANG the handle gives way - the line is pulled out of the hole. Thankfully i could see they were cheap ass handles so I had a much sturdier set from another kite. They were fine. Then on the next attempt - 15seconds in POP the line snaps!!! - I had a set of peter lynn lines with me that I put on - the kite was fine then. When you pay £140, even for an entry level kite, this is pretty disapointing. Has flexifoil, like all companies, started …

For those that know me from PKF it is obvious that I've got "single skin fever". I'm trying to build my quiver around that concept. Just love how they fly, their exceptional low-wind characteristics and especially how small they pack up! About a week ago or so I got my second Peak 2 (first was my 12m), this time the 6m. On a day with sort of intermediate wind I decided to have a 6 v 12 showdown which I captured on video and put it to one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands. I hope you enjoy this! Peaks have amazing DP range in my opinion. It's cool how I could fly such different sized kites on the same day, both with great buggying results!

Vmg

Ok. So as i understand it. Vmg is the best angle/speed to get to a turn point. Im assuming this generally in racing is only really important when a few turns are needed to make it upwind, otherwise direct to each turn will always be better (other than directly down wind where a series od chained together suiside turns at speed are best) While on the move, how do we know what is the best angle/speed to use to get to that upwind turn point? Is there a real science to it? More importantly could a device be made to ahow you how you should be traveling?

I came across a new product on eBay this morning called Primelines. It's a liquid wax that is designed specifically for coating kite lines. It's a New Zealand based company and the product looks promising. http://www.primelines.tech/ A few years ago @Chook Introduced me to sewers aid, which is a silicon oil and works wonders on older lines. But I have ordered a bottle of the primeline to test out and compare to the silicon oil.

Flexifoil are releasing an update of the fabled Blade series as a New Year's present to land kiters. No details as yet but they've made the announcement on their website so it shouldn't be long before we find out when the release date is. Here's another one to add to the collection @.Joel

What/when was that moment of inspiration to get into traction kiting? For me it was when my staffy was pulling me along on my longboard and i thought "i should try this with my flexifoil stacker!" This lead to wheels of doom and radsail pro 4m. Lead to nobarriers14 event in wales where i tried depower and a buggy. Lead to buying a radsail buggy and buggying at my local tidal sand bar with a few people i met at nobarriers14 . This lead to looking for other beaches and finding SWATK club at weston supermare. This lead to club racing and buying pansh sprint kites. Lead to buying a gt buggy racing in the national pka races. Lead …

Many of you may have heard of the Haggard Garage guys with their wacky car mods, well let's hear it from those wacky kiting, kiting vehicle or similarily related el dodgo contraptions, that hey might just work and impress, or at the very least be very entertaining. So to kick it off, here is a video of a couple of kids, making surf boards from scraps of wood. Kiting related, well near enough, just give them a kite and I am sure they would give it a go with their board.

So after listening to @ssayre & @.Joel argue about how many kites are needed in a quiver I thought to myself - lets see what our typical quivers are. We'll skip stunts and single liners and stick with power kites for traction. I currently have 3 depowers and 15 fixed bridles...although you could argue that some of the fixed bridles are depowers being Nasa Stars and Long Stars but I use them as fixed bridle. So, what's in yer quiver?

So, wind is free, the beach is empty, ( except for the odd dead crab or dead fish ), so why bother with third party insurance ? , in fact , any insurance ? Its an 'extreme' sport, its on your own head, so why bother, you know the risks ! Or do you try and kite in a buisy park/beach/area, where the risk of an accident with joe public is there ?! Public race events where every pilot has to have insurance makes more sense, asthe risk of an incedent is high, but what about the average kiter that doesnt race ? Here is me, ive only been power kiting since year 2000 , and have NEVER had kite insurance and NEVER will. I buggy, board and static kite. Ok i probs don…
