Anyone doing this? I've made up a picavet mount for the GoPro which will take photos every 2,5,10,30 seconds but haven't managed to use it yet. I have had the gopro under the wing of a motor glider with some success, but of course every time I bank/turn it, I get shots of the neighbors paddock. Of which I have A LOT. But it seems a bit hit and miss. I like the idea of putting a kite up, attaching camera and then letting out the line to position the camera in the right spot. Found a good vid:

Hi all, I have been thinking about developing a motorized F-Arc e-paraglider for quite some time now. The F-Arc peel up launches easily, generates tremendous lift, is low drag (great upwind performance) but with unfortunate bowtie susceptibility. Kite surfing in unstable winds with the F-Arc is almost useless due to the short relaunch window on water (not so bad on snow). My lower aspect clones (900, 1400) are much better regarding this but with less performance whereas higher ones (1900) can be most challenging with only modest performance increase and a tad of quirkiness. The vanilla 1600 would be a good start. Using such an efficient wing as the F-Arc fo…

I saw a Cabrinha Contra 2007 on Mktpl, new condition (used once) for sale cheap. So I did a bit of research in this kite and came across this fantastic video by Anthony @ St-Petersburg Kiteboarding. Thanks! I knew what I was dealing with. It is was 7 strut (heavy!) with a 2:1 bar system (heavy bar pressure). I was curious to see if this kite could be upgraded in design similar the latest offering, lighter, faster, more responsive. So I bought it to take up this new challenge. Step 1. I first started the process by flying the kite in light air. The weight of the kite makes it much harder to roll over and relaunch. The kite was powerful but slow t…

Interesting new kite concept fron the venerable Steffen Born, a single skin DP kite flown with one hand from one handle with only bridle lines. In email conversation with Steffen he let me know that good propulsion in limited (narrow) spaces was on critical design requirement.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fNn3SR_vXcFrom Steffen: It`s a single skin depower kite with a one-hand control, without additional lines. Ideal for street kiting. It will be available from August in the sizes 2.0m, 4.0m and 6.0m. I absolutely love how Steffen continues to innovate. I'm a huge fan of his NS3s and LS2s and it appears that he has created another most interesting kite, purpose b…

Hi there, Our daughter is looking to rescue throwaway (damaged beyond repair) kite, and upcycle it by making it into a rope bag for rock climbing. We are based in Mount Maunganui and would love to hear from anyone who has a dead kite lying around that they would like to get rid of. Thanks Maeve

Hi guys. First time post after coming across this forum. I used to kite buggy back in the UK, the last time I went out was probably 15 years ago now. Haven't even flown a kite since! I moved to Melbourne 4 years ago, and after a recent visit back to the motherland I acquired my old 3m ozone fury out of the parents attic. Wanted to do some static flying at a beach wide enough to accommodate. Any ideas around the SE suburbs? Maybe Mornington way? I see you guys buggying at 13th beach/sandy point but I feel it's a bit far just to fly. Thanks for any input guys 🤙

A big Happy 50th Birthday to Peter Lynn Kites!! If you want to be part of the festivities, they are live streaming on Facebook on Saturday the 4th of November. From my first steps into kite flying way back in 1988, all the way to today, Peter Lynn kites have been a staple for me. Power kites are where I have enjoyed the most fun, and combined with my first buggy (a PL Comp), many years of fun and friendship has been had. Pictured is just the PL kites, and the long suffering (24 year old) Comp buggy that has had all parts replaced a minimum of twice, except the down tube. Which is the only original part!! The kite list: Holding a PL sunrise …

Good morning everyone. I am a kitesurfer who for 10 years I live 600km from the nearest beach and can only practice 1 to 2 times a year, when there are wind conditions on the beach that flew. I am wanting to start the practice of kiteskating and decided to build a NASA kite and I am using the first version of the construction program (see the attached image), building a 3.9m² NASA. The first wing flew but I am experiencing instability problems in the nose, although it has a lot of traction, in the dives it closes the nose inwards, creating breath, loss of pressure and speed. I would like to know if someone can help me with this construction or if they can indicate a speci…

Hi guys, I want to expand my kite bladder repair business and into the wonderful world (or the dark arts!) of kite sail repairs and stitching. Chook - I think you sew your own kites? What sewing maching (cheap as possible) would you recommend, what needles, what threads? And techniques will be helpful too as I have no idea how you would sew foil kites that have two layers for example. Cheers

Think of a 3'-wide pillow that needs to hold 2-3 PSI. I have access to a sewing machine, but not to the elecronic fabric welding tool that the pros use. Tried hot-melt glue and it held for a bit before blowing out. Tried sewing a re-enforcing seam over the glue line, but the glue jammed up the sewing machine. Currently trying the green goop they use to seal bike tube leaks ("Slime") by attempting to get it to seep into a straight stitch. It slowed the leakage, but not enough. Does anybody know of a method? I wonder if my approach might be wrong and I need tb thinking in terms of an air-tight bladder inside...but that begs the obvious quest…

Hi All. Newbie to the group. I have been flying on and off for the last year. Not been able to have any lessions apart from a day with a fellow kiter last summer when covid restrictions was lowered. I have a local playing field that I get to practice on when the conditions are favorable. I have my own buggy and landboard with 2 x 4 lined foiled kites. 2.5 and a 4.2 twister. I'm down in Newquay in the middle of july. Looking for the best places to get out and do some practicing and hopefully meet some local flyers. Mike.

So I have recently been left some kites, 11 in total and a big bag to hold them, the person who left them to me was an enthuisiast and in most hobbies he had he always bought good quality stuff, so reluctant to just stick on ebay etc without any knowledge. I know a few of these are probably cheapo (he wouldny have let the kids use his nice ones ) but what Id like is more information if possible regarding any of them. General plan is keep a couple of the cheap ones to fly in his memory occasionally(I've never flown a kite and as much fun as it looks, my partner will probably kill me if I got another hobby, and if it's anything like climbing gear then it can quickly g…

Today I sold the final elements of my kite buggy equipment as advertised in the for sale section. (tear in my eye). Good luck to Tony from Brisbane who purchased it all from me. I just wanted to say a big thank you for the friendships that I formed from this website at the meetings I attended in Kingston and at Sandy Point, plus Bob here in Canberra. I learnt so much from members of EK and progressed my skills through your help. I have many fond memories of kite buggying with you all but it is time to stop due to nothing more than age! The body just cannot do it anymore as I reach 70! Good luck to you all and safe kiting. I shall remain on this website because I hop…

Hi, i am new to the forum, apologies if the questions is a bit dumb... I am 85kg with gear, flying inland (old airfield, hard surface, but grassy) in usually gusty, shifty winds (gust factor ~20-25%, but can be 50% or higher also). Preferred to go landboarding, but later might opt for a buggy also… Looking for a new kite (at least for me) with good gust handling for wind range 3-5kn up to 25-30kn. Options I have in mind: 1. Flysurfer Peak in 6m or 9m size (new or 2nd hand) 2. Gin Shaman (2nd hand) 3. HQ Empulse 10m (2nd hand) 4. Ozone Explore V2 8m (2nd hand, like new) 5. Born kite LongStar 3 in 5.5m or 8.5m size (new) 6. Born…

FLYSURFER makes awesome kites, but the travel bag that comes with the Soul- I don’t understand why they made it the way they did. So I got out my old Lite bag from my previous 12m only to find that the fancy ‘no jamming’ zip puller had corroded and that bag was useless until I can fix it with a new zip or zip runner. I commented in my review of the Gong Unik kite how much I liked the bag. Just simple things like useful pockets and a plastic chunky zipper. The FLYSURFER travel bag- at last they have put plastic runners on the zips- hooray, about time. But they still put the same ‘no jamming’ runner on the lite bag, so that thing will be useless in a year or two. …

Hello - back in 2008, I think, I bought a HQ NEO 8m de-power kite, first generation. My son and me were flying flexifoil kites on nearby heath, and thought we'd experiment, but just used this a few times and am under pressure to clear out / sell it!. I do remember reading once that there was a fundamental flaw in this first generation NEO's - does anyone with very long memories know anything about this??

What's the oldest kite people currently own that they still fly? Some of us have old kites that we keep for nostalgia, however what's the oldest one that's still part of your active kit that you pull out when you need it?

I am trying to find some help with plans to build a single skin power kite. I was talking to a forum that was titles "A new year...A new build" from a person called Big E. It was about a wonderful experience building single skin power kites of various sizes. I haven't been able to get in contact with this person. They haven't replied and it has been a while since they had visited. I am really just looking for info on single skin kite building and thought I would start here. If I could get a hold of this person that would be great, but any info on this subject would be great, but I also don't mean to bother this person. He used a program called Single Skin 0.3. Any body us…
