Extreme Kites Labour Day Explorers' Weekend Friday March 8th - Monday March 11th Land kiters for two decades have been kiting Waratah Bay, kicking off from the Sandy Point foreshore. This time we're looking at exploring the East side of Shallow Inlet, launching from the Boat Ramp and traversing the east side in to Wilsons Promontory. Having never done this before, anyone joining us is advised to be equipped for all terrain with either Big Foots or MidiXL's. Alternatively having a ski-rope in case you need to pull through some soft patches if on Barrows or Midis may also be a workable option. Route Planned Tides Late afternoon/evening tides, with daylight savings still running we'll be able to kite well in to the evening. Accommodation Options Shallow Inlet Campground - $20/night (Unpowered Sites) Shallow Inlet Caravan Park - $40-$126/night (Unpowered Sites, Powered Sites and Cabins) Wilsons Prom Holiday Park - $65-$315/night (Unpowered Sites, Powered Sites and Cabins) Sandy Point Caravan Park - $55 - $65/night (Unpowered Sites, Powered Sites)

I recently moved to toowoomba from the coast. Have been kitting for several years on the water but am now looking at options in the local area with a mountainboard Got a mountain board and several kites, anyone know of some good spots to go for a run on the mountainboard with a kite? Have tried local ovals but currently they are all littered with goal posts for other sport. Done a bit of downhill but still looking for a good open space for a kite.

After a fabulous time over in SA, we've both got the feel again to be back in the buggy and blofly. With the COVID situation settling here in Victoria, what about re-booting a speed week? Thoughts?

Is anyone wistfully thinking about going to Kingston in 2021? I've had so many travel plans thwarted this year by the 'rona that I am looking at next year Hoping to get there (I found a route that does not go through Victoria) BobM

Well this is all dependent on what's going to happen in the next week or two...... But being the optimist, I am putting up the dates for weekends with great tides for Sandy Point. All depends on the weather as well. Sept. 26th low tide 12.17pm. Sept. 27th low tide 1.08pm. Oct. 10th low tide 12.19pm. Oct. 11th low tide 1.02pm. Oct. 24th low tide 12.09pm. Oct. 25th low tide 12.56pm. Nov. 7th low tide 11.15am. Nov. 8th low tide 11.56am. Nov. 21st low tide 11.06am. Nov. 22nd low tide 11.51am. Dec. 5th low tide 10.09am. Dec. 6th low tide 10.52am. Dec. 12th low tide 3.58pm. Dec. 13th low tide 4.58pm. Dec. 19th low tide 10.01am. Dec. 20th low tide 10.48am. Dec. 21st low tide 11.33.am. Dec. 22nd low tide 12.17pm. Dec. 23rd low tide 1.02pm. Dec. 24th low tide 1.48pm. So it might be good for a pre Christmas run if people have the time off. Fingers crossed we can get a run in considering this very strange year.

AU Greetings to the forum lurkers at Bicentennial Park today!
nigel posted a topic in Meets & Events
Decided to go out for a quick fly with the family today (as it's corona Kite fest weekend), and take some pics to add to the fun. But greeted with a buggy zipping around the field and a new kiter struggling with twisted lines. So a big Hello to the boys their today!! Don't be lurkers, say hello, post up a message, and we can include you in our events, or random banter. Plenty of old farts kiters here to help if you want it. Or even if you want a hand setting up a kite! Hope to catch you both next time!!! And a pic of what I set up for the Corona Kite Fest. -
Wow is this year really getting a wriggle on? Counting down the days now till we get to Yeppoon for the annual get together. Easter is the full moon so that equals big tides. The beach is wide anyway but this means extra room to play The tidal creek across the beach is usually a non event this time of the year because of this. I fly into Rockhampton on the 26th March and leave on the 28th of April based at Driftwood right on the beach in Todd Ave. I posted my kites, helmet and armour last Wednesday so it's there ready for when I arrive. (Cheers Bernie for your help in this regard, your a champion ) So guys who else can make it this year.

We've been quite quiet on the forum lately but I thought to fill you all in with what's been going on with ourselves. Doug and I have taken a liking even more to the static flying and have been moving about the south east attending various kite festivals over the past couple of years. Yesterday we were flying at the 2020 Rosebud Kite Festival. This year the festival seemed to have lost its flare, but we still managed to have a kite or two in the air and got to hang out with the likes of fellow buggyer's @nigel and @The Duke. Its always nice to catch up with friends with like-minded hobbies. Doug and I now have a Facebook page called Clear Blue Kites where we have a few photos and videos posted. But for those of you who steer away from Facebook and all its politics, here are a few photos of our kites for you to enjoy. Up next...... 2020 Adelaide International Kite Festival

Saw an advert for this event https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/kite-flying-festival-2020-canberra-on-sunday-8th-march-2020-tickets-91605517569 Might pop along to see what happens I think the 10am start might suffer from a lack of wind (but I am happy to be wrong)

Must be time for an official 2020 Kingston thread. Dates will be however long you wish to stay up until Australia Day (26th Jan). (later if you wish). Some of us turn up two weeks prior, some one week prior. It's all very casual with no particular structure. I think the Blokarts will be there again this year - if you've got any details of that, pop it in below. Let's hope for a dry claypan and a clean beach. I'm booked in 13th - 26th and will bring a few more single liners this year as the foreshore fly is becoming more and more spectacular every year. Looking forward to seeing you all there.

@Tiger37 has got the ball rolling with the thoughts of speed week and this week end, we came out of hibernation and over dinner, myself, @igeighty, @the_hatmanand @Bill had a chat. Tides and weather permitting we all thought that the weekend before or after the footy may be the go, when its not too busy, but looking at the tides, Friday 25th October has a good low tide mid afternoon. So the seed has been planted, have a look at your tide charts and your work calendar and pop a few suggestions down. @roblukin, @bakersdozen, @.Joel, @mik333, @DrWind, @OBEwan, @Clive, @nigel, @BobM, @Darren Tibbey, @The Duke, @cris italy

KINGSTON S.E 2019 Its that time again everyone, to start planning the main event of the Extreme Kites Group. (Correct me if I'm wrong @.Joel as the earliest thread I can see dates 2003) For the last 15 years, kiters have got together for the meet of the year and the best way to start the year with a catch up in Kingston S.E in South Australia. Kiters come from all corners of the country from Experience, WA to Canberra, ACT to buggy the long stretch of beach from The Blackford Drain up to the Granites, or if the weather is perfect, a ride out on the Lake Nadzab aka The Clay Pan. Members usually stay at the Kingston Foreshore Caravan Park for the duration of their trip, a fully equipment park with unpowered/powered sites, basic/delux cabins and decent bathroom and kitchen facilities and on Australia Day, put on a fantastic Ariel kite display for the general public. This is a non-organised event, it just happens as a way to celebrate a great meet up. This year, myself and @igeighty, along with @roblukin are planning on a slightly longer trip over. Arriving onsite on Saturday 5th January 2019 and heading back home on Sunday 27th January 2019. (Of cause we don't expect everyone to stay for 3 weeks, but its general idea of the dates) We have already made our site bookings and are now on the exciting countdown until we can head over. So if each year you've ummed and arrred about heading over, do it and you'll find that you'll return again and again each year as we have. Looking forwards to seeing you all! Mez

Calendar Event Added If you're coming hit "going" so it adds you to the list. Well I have just sent through a booking request to Kingston S.E Caravan Park for January 2018. We anticipate to arrive Saturday 13th January and leave on Australia Day (as per usual) Who else will be heading over there in January?
-
Good Friday falls on the 19th of April. Chook is already booked in at Driftwood from March 28th until April 26th. Who else is making the trek? Don't forget to RSVP on the event to let everyone know you are coming along
-
It has been suggested that we organize a weekend probably somewhere along the south coast when NSW and Canberra kiters can get together. Of course all others welcome too. I will suggest some dates both later this year and early next year to see which suits the majority best. Please give an indication if you are interested.
-
Hi All, Well our time in Kingston S.E has certainly excited us and the Victorian flyers are keen for some more buggy action. Looking at the tides and weather and wind depending, how about the weekend of Saturday 16th February and Sunday 17th February? The low tides appear at the end of the month but stretch across the week. If it works out, we will organise it closer to the date. We will plan on camping the night at the caravan park.

Blazing Swan in an official regional Burning Man event. The event is held over 5 days on the Easter long weekend and in recent years has attracted about 2500 participants. This year (2019) a couple of us are organising a wind sports theme camp with the intention of promoting land sailing, kite bugying and wind sports in general. Anyone who is interested is welcome to come along and join our camp, sail all day and party all night what could possibly go wrong? While tickets are not cheap at $300 per person they are fair value for a 5 day festival. The event site is located on the western shore of Jilakin Lake near Kulin about 3h east of Perth. Jilakin Lake is approx 4km wide and 4km long with a surface area of 14sqkm. To be honest the amount of water on the lake at Easter is variable in 2014 it was too wet to sail, in 2018 it was totally dry and perfect sailing. However on the + side the area is renowned for constant winds at that time of year its almost guaranteed that there will be plenty of wind. For more info on Blazing Swan blazingswan.com.au/Please feel free to contact me for more info on our theme camp and how to get involved.
