windstruck Posted January 28, 2017 Report Posted January 28, 2017 Completely off the topic of kiting we had a Bald Eagle in a tree today about 100m from our house. In the states this is our National Bird and she's a dandy! I suspect these fellas aren't in the great Down Under. What was the coolest thing you've seen in a while? Share a pic here and comment! Tiger37 Posted January 29, 2017 Report Posted January 29, 2017 Nice one Windstruck. We do have eagles in Australia but not bald ones I think! Here is a photo my wife took of a wedge tailed eagle ( @jhn.holgatewill correct me if I'm wrong!) attacking an emu egg in the Red Centre, west of Alice Springs on the Larapinta Trail in August this year. plummet Posted January 30, 2017 Report Posted January 30, 2017 I was kitingsurfing quite a way out to sea. Maybe 1km? This fish popped out the water, unfolded some wings and proceeded to fly beside me looking at me. It was maybe 10m away. Then it banked off into a turn and flew in front of me and dived back into the water and was gone as fast as it appeared. Super cool. Sorry no photo's Kamikuza, SoutherlyBuster, BigTone and 1 other 4 Quote
.Joel Posted January 30, 2017 Report Posted January 30, 2017 Screengrab from some video from Kingston, this was coming back a bit before Horsham some farmers were moving their sheep down the road. They just decide to go down the road and then randomly those on the edges of the pack just stop and start eating as we're waiting for them to clear. windstruck 1 Quote

Sorry no photo's They're supposed to have flying fish here, but I've only ever been smacked around by idiot fish jumping out at me... -------------------------------------------------------------- Doesn't qualify as cool, but was funny. A Fleshlight sleeve had washed up the month before too... windstruck and RedSky 2 Quote
123matt Posted January 30, 2017 Report Posted January 30, 2017 Kited past a massive sea turtle swimming just under the surface about 1km offshore 2 weeks ago. That was pretty cool. Had also seen a whale breach fairly close in that same area a few years ago. windstruck 1 Quote

Mez Posted March 25, 2017 Report Posted March 25, 2017 My favourite cloud formation - Undulatus Asperatus, has finally been recognised in the International Cloud Atlas after its first review since 1987. From my above photo. Chook, SoutherlyBuster and windstruck 3 Quote
