What is this yeppoon business? and when is it actually happening?

I'm randomly going to be in gladstone for work for a couple of days at the start of april. I fly 31st March and will have the weekend of 1st and 2nd april to cruise around and do some kiting. Yeppoon only appears to be a couple of hours away from gladstone. Will any one be lurking around at that time?

PS thinking of packing the hydrofoil.

Yes I'll be there Dave.:good:

I get to Yeppoon on the 30th March and leave on the 26th April.

Just let me know if you need a bed in Yeppoon over that weekend. I stay at "Driftwood" in Todd Ave, which is right on the beach.:drinks:

I'm sure @Bernie would have a spare buggy too.

Boom!

I see an evil plan hatching.

Let me confirm my plans. A hotel by the beach arrive late 31st leave 2nd might be the go. Whats the wind like that time of year?

It is a self contained unit. Very comfy and 2 air conditioners. Swimming pool and undercover barby and undercover parking area. Laundry is coin operated. We park our buggys/kites/gear in a locked double garage.

This pic from 2012 is from the barby area by the swimming pool. The beach is at the end of this lawn, past the outdoor setting with great ocean views (for a beer and bullshit debrief). Just tow your buggy straight down to the beach and you are into it.

Very tough views at dawn of the islands.

Nice wide and very hard beach.

Wind is nothing like the Blizzards you are used too.:laugh1:

I have only seen gale force winds on the beach one day in the 5 years I've been there. Usually fairly light (make that large kite) with an increasing afternoon sea breeze.

@gannet would be able to fill you in on the conditions on the water better than this land based Chook.

There is practically no swell either as the water is so shallow. Ocean is only 8 mtr deep out to Great Keppel Island 20 kms off the coast. You an see both North and Great Keppel Island on the left and right ocean horizons, in the background haze of the photo. (On a clear day you can see XXXX Island too.)

The great news is that the beach is 300mtrs wide at low tide, rock hard sand and 19 kms long to buggy on. That's why I haunt it.:good:

Ohhhh, your selling it Chook. Whats the tides on the 1st and second?

If its super shallow then hydrofoil might not be the go.

I'm sure you will be ok with a foil. I want to see you kiting on it.

The high tide during the day is 600mm to 700mm lower than the overnight high so there will still be 30 to 40 mtrs of hard beach to run on at the daytime high tide. This all equals buggying all day if the winds right.:good: By the time we return late in the arvo the creek will be low enough to go through flat out and it will work 100% of the time.:laugh1:

Nice. A bit of international kiting for me. Its been a while.

Hydrofoil/board doesn't fit into my baggage allowance box. Might see if i can make a shorter board between now and then.

I've only been outsite nz kiting twice in the last 12 years. Not much call for it!

I do have a board bag that fits my board. Its the hydrofoil mast/fuse that's the issue. Its a one piece design..... .

@Chook Can't be long now until you arrive.

I can tell by the Cyclone forming off the coast.

Ohh cyclone!.. I have a crispy 4m lei just waiting for a cyclone to hit!

frack yeah. Hope it holds out for next week. then blasts a 40 bastards all weekend,

Chook. with my new foil 4m I'll be able to go out in 10-15 knots more wind than the last years moose!.

Smallest kite I had then was 6m lei. Which got a bit silly on occasions!.

Ya crazy bugger !!!!  I hope the wind plays the game for you to cut sic.

Just a heads up @plummet it will be about 30 degrees warmer than moose too. The ocean temperature is like a warm bath.

4 more sleeps.:beach:
