Hi, Over the past couple of weeks, I have become very interested in the idea of flying a Quad line kite... After doing lots of Googling, I have come across a lot of different ones & different manufacturers.. I'm not looking at spending a huge amount of $$$ at the moment (until I have learnt and maintain my interest. LOL). I have come across brand called "Freilein" with a specific one called the "Windrider". http://www.freilein.com/windrider/index.htm Has anyone heard or know anything about this brand or manufacturer? Any comments?

Thought I’d introduce myself. I bought some kites for my 5 year old daughter over the Christmas break. We had such a great time that I thought I’d buy some more......this time for me. 4 weeks and 5 kites later, I’m having a great time. One of my latest purchases was a HQ Mojo quad line stunt kite. I took it out on Saturday for the first time and I’m addicted! The Mojo is such a nice flying kite. At first it was all over the sky and I had no idea what was going on. I experimented with adding slightly more break by moving the lines in one knot on the bottom leaders on the handles and everything became much smoother. Later in the session I removed the …

Like to share a few photos of an SUL kite that I finished last week, the kites a Pim Kusters design called "Essence" Pim has genorously made the plans open source. The SUL is framed with 2PT Leading Edge, 3PT Lower Spreader, P100 Spine and 4.5 carbon Upper Spreader. Like my previous build the SS 85 I experimented with Airx for the sail but this time I used the lighter Airx 500n this weighs in at 32gsm while the 600n is 37gsm, oddly the 500 had a different feel to the 600 with a slipper finish and it didnt take to any of my normal adhesives to hold the panels together before sewing. But like the 600 and Icarex it does cut and sew nice. Being a light wind …

My rendition of Davide Equizzi Sixth Sense 85. As the name suggest the kite an 85% version of Davide's Sixth Sense design it's framed with the recommended 3pt ULE, p200 LLE, p400 spine and 5pt LS. Icarex was the recommended sail fabric but I chose to experiment with Airx 600n which is a newish spinnaker fabric from Bainbridge international. Airx 600n is very much like Icarex PC-31 and shares the same cutting/ sewing qualities and the strength appears to be equal with Icarex. The surface of Airx has a very fine texture to it which gives the fabric a more satin like finish compared to the smooth gloss finish of Icarex. Having only flown the 85…

Hey all, Been thinking of trying out a single line glider type kite for a while, and the new zero-g from Prism is looking pretty cool. Mark Reed on the Prism forum says that they'll be in store by April 20, anyone know if that's Australia too? Jason? anyone?

Like to share with you a single line freestyle kite that I have just finished it's called a "Ginga" and was designed by Christophe Tournay. The plans which you can download off the net have the kite in three different sizes the small, standard or stretched so I decided to increase the stretched plans by 20% to make an XL so that gives it a wing span of about 170 cm and a length of 100 cm. The sail is Icrax and the frame is 4mm carbon LE's and spine, the centre spreader can be either 4mm glass fibre or carbon, I experimented with both and found the glass fibre has more flex and was nicer in very light winds but did allow the kite to flip inside out sometimes. …

A photo of my newly built Invictus standard by Kite D.E.sign. It's a full size sports kite with a wing span of 250cm. The sail is 1/2 oz Icarex with Darcon LE and Mylar reinforcements. The frame is: upper leading edge: Skyshark P200 lower leading edge: Skyshark P300 Spine: Skyshark P300 upper spreader: Structil 6mm lower spreaders: Skyshark Black Diamond NITRO Stand-off (4): 3mm carbon and the Bridle is a standard European turbo without activator legs. The tail weight system is unusual in that the tail fortification is used to create a pocket which a flat weight is slid into, i guess you could use the standard tube weight if you …

Hi everyone. Only discovered power kiting a few weeks ago while searching the net. So went out and bought an Ozone Imp 1.5m for myself and the kids. Well, needless to say, the kids and I love it, especially when the wind gets up a bit. It already feels like we've gotten our money's worth. I kind of knew at the time however that I was going to want something a little more challenging for myself and, with Christmas fast approaching, I'm in the position where I can justify another purchase. I haven't flown Rev kites before but when I first saw them on the net a few weeks ago I think I knew then that at some point I would have one. Was initially just going to…

Hi everyone, Just as an update to my previous post (Freilein - Windrider), I ended up purchasing a different quad kite to the Windrider. It turned out to be a 2.1m Albatross Branded kite. After some excitement & watchin some more online videos, I decided to give it a crack.. I was down the beach and possibly should have gone for a walk instead of doing a maiden.. I managed to get the kite in the air a couple of times, but there is definately a skill to keeping quad from NOT spinning.. I think the slightly strong winds didnt help.. LOL Anyway, after some more teasing on the lines, I managed to bring it down on the side and cracked one of the lead…

This entry is for absolute beginners like me. Ive only been flying for 3 weeks and like many did lots of research reading reviews and watching Utoob vids. I picked up a Zephyr on a whim (my second kite) when I went into my Kite Shop to pick up some spares for my first kite and they happened to have only 1 Zephyr left in the finish I liked - Orca. Now i was a little nervous...it was a lot of cash, a kite for "intermediate-competition", and im still learning to land. So....I took the kite to my local area and there was very little flukey wind so i wasnt sure if it would even get off the earth, I'd read it wasnt really for very low wind. Anyway I decided to give it a go and …

Hi Would like to share some photos of an Urban Ninja that I have just built. The kite is a single line glider type capable of performing tricks like flat spins and dives, all in very little or no wind. This type of kite is an ideal addition to any kite bag, when the wind is low and no other kites will fly then these relish the conditions and challenge the pilot to create tricks. Or if you just what a kite in the air you can move the bridle point down and let it fly itself. The swiss kite lab designed the Urban Ninja and has allowed non commercial, private use of it's design. Hey Guys, have been keen to get a stunt kite for a bit of fun when the breeze is light over in Perth... which is rare, but I am going mad not being able to fly! Wondering if anyone has good suggestions, would be used a fair bit, and would rather one that I can learn on than not! Am keen to get into a few real tricks as well Any suggestions welcome Lawson

Photos of a Christian Derefat designed Vortex UL that I finished building on the weekend. The sail is 1/2 ounce Icarex with mylar reinforcement at the standoffs only (no Mylar at the spine). The frame is Skyshark P90 Leading edges and spine, Skyshark 3Pt lower spreaders and 5mm carbon tube upper spreader. All up with a 10 gram tail weight the kite comes in at 230 grams. Kite dimensions: 2400mm x 1000mm I was fortunate enough early in the week to have a few days of about 3 knot winds for a test flight and as you can see by the photo the Vortex fly s quite nicely. Thanks to Kevin and Michael for supplying the raw materials. …
