Hi All

Just a reminder that the Lake Lefroy regatta will be on September 28-29 & 30.

Last year the land sailing club kindly allowed me to compete with the Mini class yachts.

This year there will be 2 buggies from Kambalda, it would be grate to see a few more drop in.

For those who dont know Lake Lefroy is about 50km south of Kalgoorlie in WA

Hundreds of square km's of the best hardest salt in Aus

No Gozzy, I was on my very best behaviour and left it home.

Actually the wife would kill me if I ever cranked it up at home again.

No sense of humour these sheilas sometimes. :D

Winds were quite light for most of the weekend, but still had a fat time.

Yes John it is as hard as concrete.

About 60 grit sandpaper is the traction surface. A bit of surface water can be buggied on, it just slows you down and flicks salt over you.

We raced on the ponds this year, which are very nice and slightly higher to the main lake. This is due to the water management to produce salt.

They used to open the inlets to the ponds and fill them. Then let the sun evaporate the moisture away and then harvest the salt. Since they haven't been harvested for a very long time, they have built up to a perfect surface (slightly higher than the surrounding lake so you can use them in winter) of the whitest salt in the world.

China uses the ponds to calibrate the cameras on their satellites.

The rest of the lake 550 square kms, was perfect as well this year, but the wind was not playing the game. I left my speed buggy home as the forecast wasn’t great and this proved to be correct.

It’s a surface you have to ride to believe, if you manage to find the odd ripple in the salt, it’s something to really brag about. :good:
