Hi Stumpi, As Lucie8 says best to get your tides right. and whatever you do stay well clear of the bridge when you are in the water. a few peeps have been sucked through on the flood tide. for the permit you can go and see Paracadamy on the left (go right round the round about) Portland end of the road. the place seems to be manned everyday, they have the skatepark as well. There is the car park at Ferry bridge end. at the moment they charge £5 for the days parking, a bit hit and miss if the cafe will be open. The guys running the new(ish) shop are really friendly and helpful guys all in all a good bunch down there. a few (lot) of the locals go to the Portland end of the road and park for free on the side approach to the sailing academy. I aint had the nerve to do that, i just pay the guys in the shop, depending on what time it is. i think it is free after 5pm. Dont be put off by the boulders, once you'r in the water the bottom is good sand and knee to waist deep a fair way out. you can pretty much see the line where the bottom dips away. have fun and hope you have a good trip. Smudge
  3. Hi all. Not sure if this is in the right place but i will give it a go. I will be working away and driving down from Wootton Bassett, I thought i would take advantage and try somewhere new to me for a session, the wind and tide looks good for Calshot and i can get there about an hour quicker than Poole. I have just called a shop there (i won't put the name up as i am not sure or the rules on that). and i have been told it will cost me £57 to be allowed to kitesurf. I did ask if this was a day pass, but the lad said no it's £57 half yearly pass. Is it just me, but i would have thought you could get a try before you buy type thing. I don't know the area, and it would be nice to have another place to go to other than Poole or Portland. I do have BKSA insurance and i have taken a 3 day level 2 course, also i have been flying on land for about 3 years, just i am new to water side of the sport. Is this normal for the area? could any local guys or girls let me know if there is cheaper/free place to launch/park. I didn't want this to come over as a whinge but i does look that way. cheers all Smudge
  4. OK i would like to stick my neck out here. I am not sure if there is such a thing BUT for a fat bloke 110Kg, (very newbie, done a 3 day course and had the weekend in the water with just short of enough wind for me.) So is there a sub 15 knt kite that will have the grunt to pull my pies out of the water, without me having to work the kite like a mad man to get going? It seems there are so many options out there. i don't know enough to have a favorite brand. The gear i have now goes on a North 5 line bar. Price is an issue but if it gets me out most evenings and weekends it can only help me learn this sport better i think. any advice welcome Cheers Smudge
  5. Hi Si, I am by no means a guru. The one bit of advice i can give is, if you can, buy from someone you trust. If a mate has a kite that is 3 years old and he knows his onions then it might be good for you. i went down the flea-bay route and got burnt so bad. Might as well go outside and throw £300 down the road. yes there will be some good kit out there. just hard to buy it blind. I did a lot of research and checked the brand name and all that, but a turd is still a turd. the other bit i was told is don't go older than 2009. Now being new to LEI and water stuff (foils and buggy is my background) i can't quantify this. but there does seem to be a great change/improvement in kit design the last couple of years. also you might get a 2010 kite but if the bar is say a slingshot 2004 then you aint gonna feel the love of the newer kite. (ps. i have and old slingshot bar for sale. lol) hope my drivel helps in some way. cheers Smudge
  6. Hi, if you still have them, i am very interested in having them off you. I am over in Lulworth but pop over Poole most evenings. with this breeze i need a 9m in my bag. i'm a saddo so will be on here till late. cheers Smudge
  7. Hi Rich, as it happens i am on a 3 day course starting Monday. trouble is i am going over to the guys in Portland. But i will be getting some time in practice over in Poole depending on what time my course finishes each eve, as i recon it will be better place for free practice. so long and shorth of it is, if fancy another newbie to flop around the water with drop me a line. cheers Smudge
  8. Hi guys, sorry if this has already been on here. Airush Switch 146 Series kite surfing board | eBay UK the guy says he found it. might be worth a look. I was at ainsdale and a guy lost his board a while back. cheers Smudge
  9. A quick line to say thankyou. I was down Ainsdale today, my first time with an inflatable (well that's what i told the missus.) trying to get my Airush Flow 14 in the air. i pumped it up like i had been told, very cautious not to blow a bladder by over pumping. Had my eldest lad and missus on hold and launch drills. All ready to go the kite just would not get off the ground. i spent a good 10 mins trying to figure if it was rear lines too long/ short, or just me. So a guy who has just come off the water walks over, spends 5 mins showing me the score and informs me, (in a very polite way) that the leading edge is under inflated. so we jumped on the pump for a few more. and bingo up she goes. So i would just like to thanks to the more experienced out there for taking 5 mins and sharing with the newbie. I was not going out in the water, just wanted to put it up and see how different from my other foil type kites. i saw another thread on here, about people giving advice. All i can say is thanks, i was close to giving up and he turned it round real quick. i will be taking proper lesson's next week, just nice to have a free play now and again. cheers smudge:D
  10. hi there, i feel a bit cheeky jumping on another persons thread, peter do you happen to have a 50" bladder with single one way valve knocking about. i found this thread while looking for a replacement for my 14m airush bladder. if so how can i place an order please. cheers smudge.
  11. ok now could you help me out here, is "sick" a good thing or a bad thing? i'm just looking at getting a board, do i need boots as well? i have my wetties, nice little wet suit booties. do i need more? cheers smudge
  12. that is one very nice looking board, i'd ride that anytime. just waiting for technology to catch up, then i can download one to my bed.
  13. hi all, Landcrab ere, a couple of us did turn up once the nasty wet stuff went away. lol BUT wow what a show the waterbabies put on today, sorry i dont know names for peeps yet. but big wow to some of the riders out there today. thanks to the guy's i spoke with who took the time too explain the finer points for me. i'm just waiting for a buggy injury to heal then i just have to hit the water. the stuff i saw today just re-affirmed it. but i did still have 30 mins on my MTB and had the best run i have ever had, jumps and control. must have been a magic breeze today. hope to catch up with you all at a later date. play safe out there smudge
  14. hi nick, smudge ere, not been around for a while. i went over to shell island 2 weeks back. do they allow buggies? when i asked at the main office the young ladies didn't seem to know. if they do what part is best? i'm looking at being down there first week Aug as well. cheers smudge
  15. typical, i've waited 2 weeks for any breeze in the northwest, i go to work and it goes into the 30's. lol. get fixed soon and try to enjoy the time off, dont try to get out there again to quickly.
  16. hi guy's. new to your area. just moved to kineton and looking for a place to buggy or board. still a novice but enjoy a good blast. i was looking at burton-daset, bifg hill lots of wind. good for landboard not good for buggy n kite. any locations would help. cheers
  17. hi seaside, i still very new to this sport, i have the same buggy. at first i was getting bad speed wobble on the front and that moved into bounce as well. i moved the down tube setting so it is further up.(making the buggy shorter) and this enables me to put a bit more positive pressure on the foot rests. that seemed to have cured it for me. i spent the week at westward ho, the other week full days on the beach going flat out,(well flat out for me) and no problems with the front. have fun and fly safe
  18. good one, must have been a great trip.
  19. hi all. i've been lurking in the back ground reading the site for a few months now and picked up some good info and tips, so thanks to all who give good input. if any body could point me in the direction of a decent place to buggy next week it would be very helpful. i'm looking at camping for the week and distance not really a problem. i was thinking of westward ho looks like a good camp site right on the beach. i have insurance and the helmet, also so a member of BKSA. mainly wondering where we can go fly without upsetting anybody or paying a fortune. any help would be appreciated. cheers smudge
  20. i'm an ammo tech in the army. i am the guy you call when granny digs up a ww2 item in the veg patch. i am also the guy you call when the naughty rag heads decide to have a go in UK, i got back from Afghan last weekend. i aint gonna go there. i suppose the message is we all keep the country running. (apart from the bl***y gov that is) so suck it up. know you play apart in it all. and get out when you have time and blow your mind with the wind we have to play with.
