Slartibartfast Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 I've just applied for a job in Brisbane and if successful will need to move to Brizvegas! I have no idea if I will get the job or not but one of the things I need to do is start thinking about where I want to live. The company is located on Upper Edward St in Spring Hill and I'm told it has good access to public transport. Any suggestions of places within a reasonable reach of Brisbane that also offer good opportunity for Kite Buggying? :) Quote
andy666 Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 Kingscliff Seriously though, from what I have heard there aren't a lot of options for buggying in Brisbane. Quote
BobM Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 In all seriousness, look out along the train lines. I have friends who live on Bribie island and drive to Caboulture each day to finish their commute by rail into Central Station. Like most Capital Cities, the traffic can get snarled very easily and inner city parking is expensive, so public transport is the way to go. The main bus station is underground near the Queen St Mall, and Central Station exits onto Edward St. Walking up Edward St to Spring Hill will give you a daily dose of Cardiac workoutout. I have a fondness for the train - I worked at Queensland Rail for a year or so and had free transport to and from work on the train. Quote
SoutherlyBuster Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 ... and you get to ride their tilt train . (I worked for the company that designed their tilt train years ago). Good luck Slarti with the job. Hmm will be a long trip to Kingston then next year, but I suppose you will be gunning for Yeepon instead then. Quote

It's been a while since I lived in Brisbane, but my impression was that the tilt train was for inter-city runs up to Bundaberg and not for the suburban rail system. Caboulture used to be the northern extremity of the suburban system. Checkout http://www.railmaps.com.au/brisbane.htm for a reasonable map of the suburban system. Quote
Slartibartfast Posted May 7, 2014 Author Report Posted May 7, 2014 Thanks guys. So where would be the preferred bugging locations? I've been poring over Google Maps but it's hard to identify the 'choice' spots. Do you guys normally either head south to the Gold Coast or north to the Sunshine? The stretch from Woody Point through Margate, Redcliffe and onto Scarborough looks like it has potential from the aerials. The Margrate beach looks promising from the air but the on the ground shots are conflicting. Some look fantastic: But others, not so much: I guess it might be a case of picking winds and tides Shorncliffe has a train and looks good for kite surfing but appears to be next to useless for buggying, though if Woody Point is buggyable it's but a short hop over the bridge (which kind of looks like fun:)). From the photos it appears their upgrading the bridge. Google Navigator still takes it even with "Avoid Tolls" set, so I take it that bridge is a toll free crossing, which is nice. I certainly can't see anything suspicious in the photos. Although too far out to live Bribie Island looks like a spectacular stretch of beach: 30km of uninterrupted white sands. Looks like a bigger better version of my beloved Goolwa Beach. Do you guys head out this way for weekends? Heading south is not so inspiring... The islands look sensational but appear fairly in accessible and the mainland beaches look cruddy, till you hit the Gold Coast, then it's on for young and me ! Are there any inland sights worth considering? Quote
andy666 Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 You can't buggy on the goldcoast beaches as they are all too busy, too soft or close to airports. Jabroni and Sluggo often travel from south Brisbane down to kingscliff. I'm sure if there was something closer they would of found it Quote
sluggo Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 Slarti There are no beaches on the Gold Coast that you can buggy on , the life guards will be on to you quicker than a fat kid on a cupcake . Murrarie is about the only big area that is suitable . Bribie Island is good down at Skirmish point . Northern NSW is an hour away and fantastic beaches . Quote
Slartibartfast Posted May 8, 2014 Author Report Posted May 8, 2014 Fair enough. Is this the Murrarie you men? If so I take it you mean the Recreational Ground? Where abouts is "Skirmish point"? And I take it Margrate Beach is out ): Quote
