  1. Narracorte caves for fossils?
  2. This is primarily a post to let a new buggier and his family know about the annual get together. For me, the key date is Australia Day on the 26th of January, and I plan around that Date. In 2023 it falls on a Thursday. The Adelaide Kite Flyers put on a fantastic display of large kites and it is always worth viewing. There is a congregation of kiters, buggiers, blow-carters, kite-boarder, kite surfers and families at the Kingston Caravan Park in the days/weeks leading up to the 26th, and some stay on afterwards as well. As a buggier, I look forward to getting out on the (hopefully) dry lake bed and letting rip on the flat surface. It all depends on the wind, the weather and the dryness of the surface. If things aren't right, there is always the beach to use too. What else is there to do (I know that HD1P has a 10/11 YO son and a 12/13 YO daughter to entertain)? Tour the Cape Jaffa Lighthouse Visit the local wineries Swim in the ocean - there might even be dolphins I like to roller skate on the footpaths along the foreshore (bring your outdoor wheels) There is a skate park nearby (sign says no roller blades, but doesn't mention Quads) Does anyone else have suggestions to keep the kids entertained? See you all in January BpbM
  3. Handles or bar? Both sets of equipment have a safety mechanism where you can completely lose all power from the kite. The bar will have a "quick release" of the power lines and the kite will behave like a plastic bag in the wind. Handles will have "kite killers". In either case, the first thing you should do is to become familiar with the safety! Then you can fly with the confidence that you can easily get out out of any situation. And practice using the safety when you can, so that your confidence in the equipment grows. BobM
  4. I'll be visiting Tweed Heads/Kingscliff on the 12/13 of March. I might be able to say G'day on the Saturday, but I have family event on the Sunday
  5. Speaking of which, I assume that nothing is happening this year? I have a trip to Yeppoon pencilled in for 2023 :-)
  6. I got mine from BrisKites many years ago, but they might be worth a phone call https://www.briskites.com.au/libre-deluxe-harness-medium
  7. One less buggier in Canberra (not that I get out that much these days) I'm glad you'll still be around with your stunt kite
  8. Have a chat to the people at BrisKites. They used to be into buggying and might know if anyone is still involved in the area. BobM
  9. Geez Trevor, We will be sorry to see you leave this great past-time. I have enjoyed our (very) occasional meetups both here in Canberra and at the coast (and Kingston). All the best for the future, and who knows, when I retire myself in a few year's time I might bump into you somewhere in Canberra Cheers BobM
  10. If the wind is from the NE, try Currarong NSW 2540 which is just south of Nowra and has a NE aspect. Post the trip in the Events/NSW and see if anyone is still out there and wants to join in, JDHot looks in occasionally
  11. Not too bad I am hoping to drive down to Kingston S.E. SA for the Australia Day meetup there, but the SA government is still being tight with its border crossings. I've nearly given up flying in Canberra as the winds are just too fickle. There sure has been a lot of development and changes at Amaroo since I was there last.
  12. Wow, Which oval was this filmed at? I too haven't been out for a while. I want to take some pictures of Lake George with the water lapping the road, just to contrast the dry Lake bed from a couple of years ago Cheers BobM
  13. This web site has a few zebra stipes with red http://libre.de/?q=en/node/265
  14. Tanilba Bay? is that near Port Stephens? I wouldn't mind a weekend at Birubi Beach again BobM
  15. After years of sitting in the cupboard, My Peter Lynn Reactor 8.3 is up for sale at $300 including postage.
  16. Welcome to the frustrations of in-land kiting. I am in Canberra and at least a two hour drive from the coast. There used to be a couple of ovals that weren't heavily used on weekends, but that has changed as the surrounding suburbs have filled up and organized sport has taken over. I'll keep an eye out as I drive through Toowoomba on Friday on my way to Brisbane/ Gold Coast for a wedding on the weekend BobM

    Kingston 2021

Wistful thinking just got converted into an action. Booked an el-cheapo cabin at the caravan park from Sunday 24th of Jan until Sat 30 Jan. See you there if you are there BobM
  18. I just realised that you are trying to organise a buggy event on Bathurst weekend. Who are you and what have you done to JDHot?
  19. I'm not familiar with the seller's name either. Looks like a PL MkII from the rear axle arrangement.
  20. I can probably make the Saturday, but will need to be back in Canberra on the Sunday. I'd better put air in the tyres between now and then.
  21. How are you at Skating? Hockey Stops in good order? Transitions? I would start with a smaller kite that wouldn't pull too hard to start with. By all means progress to a stronger kite as your skills develop. P.P.E. would be a must! particularly while learning - Deeply padded knee guards, elbow guards, double-sided wrist guards and of course a light-weight but durable (multi-impact) helmet. (I use all of this stuff for roller derby). Learn how to use the kite safety systems, and don't be afraid to bail out Hope you post lots of videos of you enjoying your kite and skates BobM
  22. Wow, I bought my first Flexifoil Stacker back in 1994, I didn't realize that there was a forum for this until just now. If you need a tester, let me know Cheers Bob
  23. Is anyone wistfully thinking about going to Kingston in 2021? I've had so many travel plans thwarted this year by the 'rona that I am looking at next year Hoping to get there (I found a route that does not go through Victoria) BobM
  24. I was just reminded that I should have spent this last weekend in Mackay, Qld.
