sinbad Posted January 18, 2011 Author Report Posted January 18, 2011 3.66km to be precise. And here's the Lobster. He sits between the township of Kingston and our turnoff to the beach. Are you coming along this year Hilary ? Quote
Slartibartfast Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 For sure! Doc's done a great job of patching my thumb back together I'll be dragging along a few stragglers too Quote
Slartibartfast Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Are there any planing to head down Friday evening? Myself and a couple of others are thinking of getting started early Quote

bull31 Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Hi guys, Spent last weekend down there, great weather but wind died Sat. afternoon but still good for relaxing and drinking. Home again to work and may head back Thurs. or Fri. for 10 days or so. Looking forward to it. Cheers Brenton Quote
jhn.holgate Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 That just looks FAR too comfortable and organized. And I'd be very surprised if the salt pans weren't lakes by now. Quote
SoutherlyBuster Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Zach just gripped my hand knuckle white and his droweling over the pictures of that lovely flat sand ..... we can't wait to get there ... three sleeps to go. Quote
Mick14 Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 I think the saltpan is recharged by groundwater, so given the Coorong is full we might not get on the saltpan this year. Not for a buggy, anyway. It will make a great flat water kiteboarding spot, though. Other years there has been water on it one day, then dry enough for a buggy the next. Quote
SoutherlyBuster Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 Better bring my kiteboard then. Should make for some fantastic scenery seeing all those lakes full of water if we make it that far down the beach to the western end. So what direction do the prevailing winds come from ? Not a question regarding kiting but more of which direction to point my tent opening to the downwind side. Quote
Mick14 Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 The forecast is for the wind to vary between SE (cross off-shore) to SW (Cross on-shore). The strongest wind will be cross on-shore to straight up the beach in the afternoons. Quote
Andyfly Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 And I'd be very surprised if the salt pans weren't lakes by now. Any chance of taking your grain drying equipment along John just in case the pan is wet.. we can all take turns holding it.. not long now... 50mins of shift left to do ...then I'm FREE.. ... and ready to go..... Andy...impatient .... Quote
Jason Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 Sorry all, cant make it to this meet. Sending a couple of kites to Joel to take over with him. Enjoy Quote

Absolutely. I'll throw in some blotting paper too! Only three more hedges and a couple of quotes to go...... Quote
SoutherlyBuster Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 Two sleeps to go. Just saw the EK forcast, Wednesday is bringing us direct onshore winds (SW), yea haa. As for the tent, decided to take a smaller tent with a lower wind profile, less chance of it blowing away, just couldn't get my self to sew up those tent peg sand bags. On the smaller tent, took one of the tent pegs (cold formed Aluminium plate) and burried it in sand to a level where the sand was wet, wacked it in, closed the hole up and tugged on the line, plenty of capacity. That should do the trick. My smaller tent has uses ropes for the fly lines so should be able to burry the pegs. Quote
.Joel Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 My "tent" is a 3m x 3m Marquee attached to the side of my van and star pegged in to the ground Quote
roblukin Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 Are there any planing to head down Friday evening? Myself and a couple of others are thinking of getting started early im allready here, what time you thinking of arriving? Quote
nigel Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 Norm just go to your local camping store and purchase those big giant plastic tent pegs designed for sand. Very much like the kite stakes you get with your kites, only bigger and much wider. Four of these will keep the tent down! No Norm, not going to make it, so I hope you all have a good time. Quote
imjimbo Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 i want photos and stories when yas all get back..... im shattered... but on a good note im utilising the time to get heaps of stuff done and maybe go bush for a few.... hope the winds are nice.. Quote
Camarillobrillo Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 I am heading down this afternoon will be there around 22:00 hopefully... Cant' wait to get there! Cheers Jasper Quote
Slartibartfast Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 I'm all ready here, what time you thinking of arriving? Where abouts are you?
