SoutherlyBuster Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Joel, Your EK forecast for the SouthGipsland region, where is the forecast centered (ie x marks the spot) (would be good to add this to the map on the EK forecast page)? As the wind vector plots show the direction changes as you go further East .... I know you don't believe in the wind vector plots .... but there is still a possibility that there is a high wind direction gradient. Norman. Quote
jhn.holgate Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 I'll probably camp at the Waratah Bay caravan park Mon/Tue/Wed night if the weather is worth hanging around for. If anyone wants to bring a tent and share a site, let me know. Waratah Bay to Sandy Point.....wooooo! Quote
SoutherlyBuster Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Well here is my summary of the wind for Saturday, EK Joel Versus Nigel: Norman. PS. Thanks Joel for the location map, I still like yours better, but the synoptic charts are matching up with the wind vector plots, but the big question is how well the sea breeze effect is taken into account, and the bigger doubt with the wind vector plot is that it is a three day forecast with a low time resolution. I like Joel's better ... Quote
.Joel Posted March 3, 2010 Author Report Posted March 3, 2010 John, if you are flying down from Waratah bay you will need to disembark from your buggy, pack up your kite and walk it to the other side of the no fly zone, it's about a 1.4km walk. From there you can setup again and carry on to the point on the other side. Regards, .Joel Quote
.Joel Posted March 4, 2010 Author Report Posted March 4, 2010 A few people emailing asking questions, i'll repeat this again: You will receive an email late tonight with all details. I'm one person, and not spending all afternoon answering emails with the same questions, that's the whole point of putting the brochure out. Thanks. Quote

Hmmm how would you go steering one of those with a kite pulling it? One person steers (paddle/rudder) , the other one kites! Quote
Prawno Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 I died a little bit inside when i woke up and saw the 3 days of storms this morning. Come on Victoria, random it up a bit! Quote
KiwiBug Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Hmmm how would you go steering one of those with a kite pulling it? I took my Bullet kite out on a lake once , and sat on a "Hotdog" inflatable (normally pull behind boat), as it had no keel or anything to keep a straightline the only way I could get some friction in the water and some steerage was with my brother hanging off the back half in the water. Then made the mistake of going round into a bay that was sheltered and the kite fell in.....Ram Air kites fill up with water very quickly, use with care! Catch you tomorrow Shane, 5:30am....sigh, bottles of V loaded, check. Quote
koma Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 I died a little bit inside when i woke up and saw the 3 days of storms this morning. Come on Victoria, random it up a bit! Are you kidding!? Storms = lots of wind! :D Nice job on getting all the kite movies to watch Joel! Good to see you managed to get Land of Lahara. I'm looking forward to that one. Quote
blackant Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Nice job on getting all the kite movies to watch Joel! Good to see you managed to get Land of Lahara. I'm looking forward to that one. I saw that a couple of weeks ago at a TKSA video night, it's a good one! PNG's an amazing looking place to kite... Quote
nigel Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 I died a little bit inside when i woke up and saw the 3 days of storms this morning. Come on Victoria, random it up a bit! I'm with Koma on this one. It means wind!!!!!!!!! But it does look like the NW'ers are here to stay. Also for my fellow buggy nutters out there, you can out run the rain. Often at Sandy Point the rain comes through in patches, so if it's at one end of the beach go to the other end. There's 10kms on offer. Joel and I one year spent 20 minutes up the point talking, while everyone else got wet as a nice big rain cloud decended on the life saving club. Just keep an eye on the weather and what's comming, simple. Quote
Prawno Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Im from central victoria, i don't have a lot of experience with rain Rain doesn't concern me at all..........more the lightning if its about. At any rate im sure it will make for some good photos Quote
