I have a mate at Wollongong, so to go to the coast is is a bit over 4 hours anyway? As to ignorance...rest assured I only found them by accident on Google maps. Figured it may make a good weekend thing, 3 or 4 times a year. Gets freakin hot out there in the summer!

That would certainly be worth investigating - even overnighting in Wagga Wagga for a couple of days at the venue would be an interesting experience. I wonder what the best winds are and when they happen.

There are 3 of us at orange, all working different joints, different rosters. So for all 3 to do a weekend takes a little planning. I'm doing the recon (lost the bet).

I know there is a caravan park and the pub does accom and meals. I won't be going till 7th March. Keep you all posted. Thanks for the interest and support.

Bad news fella's,

Lake Urana is a bust !

I spent 5 hours getting there and another 3 hours checking out the 'lakes'.

All I could find was locked gates, crops and cow shit. The best bit was getting dry bogged and running like fuck from a brown snake.

Whats the point of having a National Park if it's locked and I can't take advantage of it?

Upside is....

The pub is great and the caravan park is excellent also. If you want to go camping, fishing, canoeing etc this is the place.

If you want to go kiting....go else where.

Next recky for me is to Garnpung Lake (Mungo), but in the meantime - Windang and 7 mile.

I went to lake Mungo a few years back and found it a really interesting place. It was a lake thousands of years ago and from memory there's lots of low scrub on it. There's some spectacular dunes there - from memory a crescent of dunes around one end of the lake....hmmmm... 100yds wide maybe? don't quote me on that, but also I remember some archaeological dig sites.

I hung around till sunset/moonrise to take a whole bunch of photos and thought it had a really special atmosphere. Take a spare bowl for a bird bath - I remember there not being much water around and I put a little trangia frypan out with some water in it and have a photo of three apostlebirds sitting in it.

Not sure it would be a viable place to kite, but it is an interesting place to camp.
