midlandtony Posted November 18, 2012 Report Posted November 18, 2012 Still no wind for the weekends, had no practise before the last gasp and looking at next weekend its looking no better. Shame to see this threads gone quite? Quote
AndyCov Posted November 18, 2012 Report Posted November 18, 2012 I took a used purchase up H.common saturday am to check it flying after sorting the line lengths at work. Barely enough breeze to get it airborne but what surprised me was the common - never known it so waterlogged. Had to hang the kite on the line to dry after! Quote
midlandtony Posted November 20, 2012 Report Posted November 20, 2012 Probably why noones around andy. hope the weather breaks soon, dry and windy dont really care about the cold. Quote
tvrgreg Posted November 20, 2012 Report Posted November 20, 2012 yep we have hardly flown on the common this year it has never dried out and its more lumpy now, took my sami up there the other week and it took 3 days to clean the bloody thing. Quote
Chaos Posted November 21, 2012 Report Posted November 21, 2012 I agree Tony It's a shame the thread has dried up, I am active and I believe Greg also posts. The Common has been in a terrible condition this year, always water logged, I have a very poor mobile photo of ducks swimming on the common in very large puddles ! Last year was awesome, dry and good winds, I remember great after work sessions, the last time I tried it this year I had to pre wash my clothes to get rid of the smell. Where are you flying this weekend? Quote
midlandtony Posted November 22, 2012 Report Posted November 22, 2012 Dont know yet, I dont want to push things too much as will be in Pendine 1st and 2nd for the last gasp. I think after tonights rain the common will be out of bounds for the weekend. Quote
midlandtony Posted November 25, 2012 Report Posted November 25, 2012 and more rain, nothing inland is gonna be worth flying :-( Quote
Chaos Posted November 25, 2012 Report Posted November 25, 2012 Managed to get an hour or so in today at Cleeve, so worth the travel, wind was the worst I have seen it though, a bit like a moderate day at Hearsall Ground conditions were good, only a few soggy patches, the wind was S, SW and varied between: bugger all, to 10 to 19, and was quite strong in the naughty corner ! the first time XC has been wrong, packed away in some drizzly mist only for it to clear with some consistent low winds:mad: Met some brummy / Italian fliers, think Dave C had met Max before and had a go on his Air rush, witnessed some good buggy jumps with an LEI in the changeable winds. Quote
Chaos Posted November 25, 2012 Report Posted November 25, 2012 we need to arrange a Seasonal Curry Night and maybe a few beers, so a local venue would be good. Ideas of a venue and date anyone ? Quote
midlandtony Posted November 26, 2012 Report Posted November 26, 2012 Glad I xmas shopped with the misses and got huge brownie points. Hope the wind is better for next weekend. Quote
Chris P Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 Met some brummy / Italian fliers, think Dave C had met Max before and had a go on his Air rush, witnessed some good buggy jumps with an LEI in the changeable winds. The brummy on the LEI would have been me I thought the winds were pretty good that day which just goes to show the kind of winds we fly in at the old airboss site Hope to visit Hearsall some day soon (25 minute drive makes me wander why i haven't already) and i'll be back up the hill at some point too Quote
midlandtony Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 Need a few dry weeks to dry the common out first Chris. It is worth the short drive when the wind and conditions are good. Not a huge site but good fun with a good bunch of people. Quote
Chris P Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 I think a lot of the Midlands flying sites will need a few weeks to dry out properly. I know the MASC site was water logged the weekend and KKC is in a similar state. After all the rain this year I think we could do with a few months of nice dry windy weather Quote
Chaos Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 Roll on the dry windy weather Chris, good to meet you and Max the other day. Quote
damian9 Posted November 29, 2012 Report Posted November 29, 2012 Anyone going to Cleeve Hill this weekend? Quote
Chaos Posted November 29, 2012 Report Posted November 29, 2012 The wind looks to be dropping of Damian, if it's flyable I will be there. Quote
midlandtony Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 Well back from a weekend in wales and probably the worst I have ever flown. Hope to see you guys on one of the commons soon. Need some serious practise. Quote
midlandtony Posted December 6, 2012 Report Posted December 6, 2012 Anyone been to the common lately, do i need a buggy or a boat? Quote
tvrgreg Posted December 6, 2012 Report Posted December 6, 2012 not for a few weeks tony but guess you will still need a boat, may try it out this weekend if we don't venture out of town. was keeping an eye on the coast this weekend but weather may not play ball. Quote
Chaos Posted December 6, 2012 Report Posted December 6, 2012 Tony if you go up Hearsall take your dry suit and the eurotracxx tyres. Last time I flew at Hearsall the water splashes on the trousers smelt rank, It will take weeks to dry out, what a difference to last year ! The ground was damp / wet at Cleeve last weekend' the week before the Ranger asked the guys to stop as the grass was getting damaged. Did you camp out at Pembrey and was it cold? Need to get a xmas curry organised, you up for it? Quote
midlandtony Posted December 9, 2012 Report Posted December 9, 2012 It was great too meet up with some of the Coventry guys today. Albeit on Cleeve common, it worked out to be a superb day with a good bunch of flyers, Quote
Chris P Posted December 10, 2012 Report Posted December 10, 2012 Also nice to have met you Tony... Nice putting names to faces. See you up there again sometime Quote
midlandtony Posted December 10, 2012 Report Posted December 10, 2012 You most certainly will. It's such a nice place in the country to be. And to be with a great bunch of people. Quote
