But I think the question that was being asked is if anybody knew of a pulley that had a plate on ONE side only. That way you can just pull the strop away without the need for a QR system. Same as a Libre or PL Pulley Spreader.

Or at least thats the way I read into it????

But alas no I dont know where you can find one - sorry

the fixe (the one i the pic) is a good pully but the whichard wont fit though the holes without a crab, and that means its really quite a long way away from the harness
If you get the next bigger wichard, the fixe will fit without a krab...;)

I take what you are saying Craig but the pulley was designed to be used closed, not sure I would trust it open.

It's the same on Karabiners the rated load is closed gate, if the gate is open the load is something like 20%

But I'm fairly sure you knew that, just dont want somebody to misinterpret what you have written as a good plan  ;) :D

Wouldn't recommend it. I have the same pulley block & on two occasions did not close it properly & had the strop come off.

Do you find that after a session , the small lever seems tight & the pulley hard to push open?

My brother has one of these. From FIELD & TRECK or simular you can feed the strop in from the top then connect to your shackel or direct to a harness, works well.

I have it connected to a wichard QR shackle ( it fits well).

This is

  • relatively cheap (about 1/3 of the snap open blocks)
  • has huge breaking strain as its built for climbing (something like 1.2mt)
  • is easy to swap between kites as the 2 sides swivel apart.

:) :)

  • 2 weeks later...

if its petzl gear i dont think you need to worry much about how substanshal it looks 99% of there gear is bomb proof i used the petzl mini for ages it was spot on just hold it closed with velcro or something or you risk loseing it.

I use both types of Petzl, £7 & the one in the pics above, the Fixe is self lubricating too & at aprox £14.50 cheap enough to keep a spare too, now all I need is a harness that is really comfy when powered to the max, even the Calidris wrecks after a while. Lets hope Flexi take Rob Hills harness for general release.

Anyone moded their climbing harness for more comfort ?

Carl.
