Chook Posted May 10, 2016 Report Posted May 10, 2016 Looking forward to see what they have changed John, but still wearing out the 7mtr R1 I've got. It's now done 2,532.7 kms and so far the loop still hasn't let go yet.Gannet has been kind enough to get a new one organized for me. jhn.holgate, SoutherlyBuster and Goz 3 Quote

Sometimes you are just plain nasty Mr Goz I've done a bit of a mod on my 11mtr R1 chicken loop to see if I can get it to last a bit longer. Wind has been strong enough not to use the 11 so don't know if it works or not yet. My Sysmic S2 (I bought from @Jords) has now been "Chookerized" and is now sporting beach racers all round for our softer conditions in Esperance. I added 2 more webbing straps to the seat as well to keep the front of the seat from folding in when getting into the bug . Talking with @gannet and he said they do this in New Zealand and it works a treat. It stops the front top edge of the seat folding down and also from rubbing on your thighs, particularly when the footpegs are wider with the beach racer forks fitted. Goz and andy666 2 Quote

Keep them on their toes eh. Thanks very much mate I really appreciate it. 6 hours ago, plummet said: How the frack do you wear through a chicken loop like that? LOTS of kilometres plummet. Up and down the beach, so it must have done god knows how many turns changing sides. I'm 106kgs and a Sysmic S2 buggy and kite bag so around 170kgs axle loading. (I'm guessing) My GPS is saying 128.3 logged hours on this loop. (Got to add the time that @gum-nuts had used it for as well, as I purchased it second hand) The plastic just couldn't handle the constant rubbing and eventually wore through both the layers. So not a bad effort really with that strain on it all the time. On the positive side of things I did a bridle check of the Ozone R1 yesterday (as they recommend a bridle change on the R1's every 60 hours and the wind had died down here) and the biggest difference was 7mm of stretch in the long lines to the junction where they fan out to centre cells. The average was around 4 to 5 mm stretch compared to the chart that was supplied with the kite. I was well chuffed with that. I'll now keep running the bridles till they give trouble, as they seem to have evenly settled in. andy666, .Joel, gannet and 2 others 5 Quote

Chook Posted June 1, 2016 Report Posted June 1, 2016 So internal bridges on every second pairs of cell instead of diagonals on every 2nd cell on the R1. That will align the fewer bridals on the new model rather than the staggered pattern towards the tips on the R1. Air intakes only on the bottom surface, I'm guessing due to 30% less weight = less inflation pressure needed. I thought the fabric was light and silky smooth on the R1. Nothing seems to stick to it. Same airfoil profile so will be a great high speed weapon. Quote
socommk233 Posted June 1, 2016 Report Posted June 1, 2016 But it will be more delicate. It'll be a wait n see as to how it holds up to buggy racing Chook 1 Quote

It might be possible that they have altered the profile so more of the leading edge is in the suction zone. Interestingly, it appears the leading edge has sharp edge to it, or was that an optical illusion? Quote

Internal structure, light weight material and different dridling is what they changed. Quote
rtz Posted June 8, 2016 Report Posted June 8, 2016 About the same price as paragliders? http://www.powerkiteshop.com/ozone-r1-kite.htm Quote
Kitepower Australia Posted June 8, 2016 Report Posted June 8, 2016 Damn expensive with less margin for retailers as well... Have ordered a 10m and 15m for our race team rider Jordan. Plus a 10m for the shop (myself) if anyone wants to try it out. Quote

Basically they have made the wing lighter and less dragy so it flies faster but also in lighter winds. Chook 1 Quote
Jason Posted June 17, 2016 Report Posted June 17, 2016 The new internal supports hold the top and bottom skin with a bit more rigidity. This has allowed them to use ultralight cloth. Chook 1 Quote
