gum-nuts Posted May 16, 2014 Author Report Posted May 16, 2014 I went out yesterday forecast was for 10 knots, reality was more 6-8! Did manage a few runs, will try again if it's dry Sunday morning and hope to get some opportunities in the week. The tyres that the land-yachts use to mark the course have gone, so I guess the toy-planes won't be there either. The surface was pretty dry with no standing water. Quote
gum-nuts Posted June 2, 2014 Author Report Posted June 2, 2014 Think I may cancel an appointment I have Friday morning and try down the lake, looks like there should be some wind and it's forecast to be dry... Desperately need a kite fix Quote
gum-nuts Posted June 6, 2014 Author Report Posted June 6, 2014 Had a good go in the buggy (and played on the board) this morning, wind started off 9-11 knots and increased to 10-14, north easterlies. A good run out with the manta 10m. Forecast looks similar for both Saturday and Sunday, tomorrow I will be painting my daughters bedroom, but am hoping to play again Sunday morning Quote
Bones Posted June 6, 2014 Report Posted June 6, 2014 Looking at that forecast I am tempted to come down. Quote
gum-nuts Posted June 25, 2014 Author Report Posted June 25, 2014 Fingers crossed, but at the moment the forecast for Sunday is looking ok for a go with the kites! And I'm hoping it will be dry enough for a buggy... Ssshhhh! Don't tell anybody Quote
gum-nuts Posted June 28, 2014 Author Report Posted June 28, 2014 Wind and weather still looking good for tomorrow - I'm going buggying! Quote
gum-nuts Posted June 29, 2014 Author Report Posted June 29, 2014 It was bloody cold! But after half an hour of hanging around the wind came in and I had an hour and a half of fun... Video to follow! Quote
wildhog Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 Hi Mark. we spoke via messaging through youtube. Very keen to get into buggying could you advise where I can get some lessons using a 4 line kite and also where to purchase buggy etc to get started. sorry for the trouble but am a little confused on how to get started and am hoping for some good guidance so I don't buy wrong equipment etc. I have been flying powered parachutes for a few years now but am looking for something to do when its too windy to fly. Many thanks Nick youtube: xcitornick Quote
Bones Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 In short, if you live near Perth; You can buy a buggy and kites from either Briskites, or Kite Power. Both are based on the east coast, but both will ship to anywhere in Australia. Just go to their websites and have a look. If you want lessons, I can show you the basics. We just need some wind. Quote
gum-nuts Posted July 22, 2014 Author Report Posted July 22, 2014 Hi Nick, Before you buy any gear you should come down to the lake (Walyungup) when it is open for business and come and have a look, a chat and a fly! I drive past the lake everyday and it's underwater! Hopefully once we get a couple of weeks of dry weather it's usually doable. But there are some parks around you can fly on. There was a guy on gumtree selling a buggy in Leeming was dirt cheap for a Peter Lynn comp, a basic buggy, but mine still goes well and is easily upgraded. As for kites I would recommend a 3-4m quad line foil - Peter Lynn, HQ, Ozone or flexifoil are all decent makes - if you are on a budget have a look at Pansh. A set of kite killers are also useful when learning for your own and others safety. As well as helmet and pads once you get in the buggy. I'm pretty much self taught and learnt through reading info and watching vids on the interweb, as well as asking questions on here. Then trial and error! It's great fun and highly addictive. gum-nuts Posted July 22, 2014 Author Report Posted July 22, 2014 The kite and buggy on gumtree have sold! Quote
gum-nuts Posted September 14, 2014 Author Report Posted September 14, 2014 Spring is finally here! It's forecast to be dry all week, with the temperatures increasing I'm going to dust the buggy off, check the tyres and head down to Lake Walyungup at the weekend. Saturday is forecast to be windy and early Sunday morning so will keep an eye on it and my fingers crossed? Quote
SoutherlyBuster Posted September 15, 2014 Report Posted September 15, 2014 Does that mean you got your first wif of onshore winds? We got our wee dose last weekend in VIC. Quote
gum-nuts Posted September 15, 2014 Author Report Posted September 15, 2014 Does that mean you got your first wif of onshore winds? We got our wee dose last weekend in VIC. Wind direction isn't usually the issue, the Lake becomes a lake with the rains and we have dry weather forecast all week, so should be enough to dry it out and make it usable. Usually wind = rain over the winter and for the first time in ages we have wind forecast and no rain (in fact its set to hit the high 20's!). I'm keeping everything crossed it doesn't change to much. gum-nuts Posted September 19, 2014 Author Report Posted September 19, 2014 Family stuff today = no buggying Storms tomorrow = no buggying Bugger! Quote
gum-nuts Posted October 9, 2014 Author Report Posted October 9, 2014 Life is very difficult this week ... I have everything crossed that the forecast fo Sunday doesn't change! Some wind and dry Quote
gum-nuts Posted October 10, 2014 Author Report Posted October 10, 2014 It's still looking hopeful for tomorrow, I think I'll head down 7-7.30ish! Quote
