Alfa75 Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 It was great this morning but suffering for it now after my OBE Great morning indeed. I can feel ur pain haha got some deep cuts on my shin bone from the gps holder. When trying riding reverse kite wanted to pull me out the bug but my foot got stuck at the foot peg stems. Now my shin bone was pushing against the middle bar of the bug where gps is..luckily buggy plipped over and my foot got released, for a second i thought my shin bone is going to break.. Changed the stems on the foot pegs abit so hopefully this doesnt happen again.. Quote
Alfa75 Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 I had a great time today. First time buggying in several months, 41km, topspeed of 56.8km/h. Upwind turns, suicide gybes, I even pulled out the plough horse (new name for my 8.6m Reactor II, it was pulling the front wheel sideways at 50+ km/h) and was able to keep it under control and in the air through the turns. It is apparent however that I need to get rid of the midis on my bug. They simply don't hold a straight enough line on the salt lake, especially the front one. Was good to see u in the bug again Whats a suicide gybe? Quote
Alfa75 Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 what a great day at the lake Trot "> Quote

trot Posted October 15, 2013 Report Posted October 15, 2013 Hi Alex, A big thumbs up :good:for the advise, it was much appreciated. With work its hard to get to the lake at weekends when others are there who could point thing out that would improve ones skill base. At the moment I'm between either going to far up wind or to far downwind despite trying to keep the kite a 45 to my bug. But very glad you mentioned about the figure 8 and its effects. Hoping to get out again on thurs / fri, fingers crossed. Hopefully i'll get to see you guys out at the lake some time. Happy Kitting Trot Quote
gum-nuts Posted October 15, 2013 Author Report Posted October 15, 2013 Some good advice from Alex. sometimes it can be tricky to tell the wind direction especially when it's gusting about, but you know when you hit that perfect line, which usually takes you slightly down wind... Steer to far down wind the lines go slack and the kite luffs with the risk of then powering up and you OBE. That is also the risk with figure 8ing the kite as the kite could end up pulling you out the back of the bug! For some real expert advise you should post in the main buggy section, there are some very knowledgable folk on here - much more so than me! wind is looking good for Friday arvo, but not sure what time I will be knocking off work and wether I could get a pass But I will be there again on Sunday morning as usual, hoping the wind stays as forecast and the isolated showers are isolated to somewhere else! trot Posted October 15, 2013 Report Posted October 15, 2013 Hi there mr Gum nut. Thanks also for the advise. I'm also looking for insurance to cover equipment and PubLic Liability and noticed that yourself and a couple of others on the forum were trying to get something up and running on the forum. Did any thing come of that or is it still up in the air? Below is the last posting from May this year. Landslide wrote: I feel it's time to stop talking and start doing. Does anyone know how to start the Australian Land Kite Association ? I'm deadly serious, I want this to happen! Joel is going to set up a section on the forum so we can discuss this and get it off the ground. Quote • PM • Report 745 Posts Baldivis, WA THanks Mr Nuts Trot Quote
gum-nuts Posted October 15, 2013 Author Report Posted October 15, 2013 Hi Trot, I know the insurance thing was being looked at and the last I had heard they were looking at policies and quotes - and it the quotes were looking quite expensive. I'm sure Joel is continuing with this but I know there was a lot of work involved. Unfortunatley there isn't anything available in Australia for kite buggying, your kites and buggy maybe covered for theft through your home insurance but it is something you would have to check with your insurance provider. Some companies will also offer public liability but as kite buggying is a relatively small sport they may not know what you are talking about Mark Quote
trot Posted October 15, 2013 Report Posted October 15, 2013 I know what you mean, companies I have contacted have a problem with classifying its genre and what it comes close to , in the sense of sport. I'm waiting for AON to get back to us as i used to be insured with them for my sports photography. If I find anything to cheer about I'll let you guys know Trot Quote
trot Posted October 16, 2013 Report Posted October 16, 2013 Weather looks good for tomorrow so will head down to the lake tomorrow AM for a spin. Have slackened off my brake lines and will try my 6 or 8 mtr hornets and see what happens, It could be lots of fun so i'll take the GP with us . Trot Quote
trot Posted October 18, 2013 Report Posted October 18, 2013 Hi kiters, Didn't get to the lake yesterday But i did today Got a good 3 hours in as well as a couple of OBEs. Wind speeds from 12/15ks with gusts up to 30ks Hence OBEs. Got rid of the kite killers and lengthened the brake lines. which made a difference. Started of with the 6mt hornet but spent more time being yanked out of the buggy so after half an hour changed it for the 4mt. Much better when gusts came along but a bit lite otherwise. Had some good runs yet with the swirling wind did make it a challenge. depending on the weather will try to get do again tomorrow (Saturday) And if Sunday looks good. Might see you guys down there . Bones Posted October 18, 2013 Report Posted October 18, 2013 We are planning for Sunday morning. Quote

Alfa75 Posted October 20, 2013 Report Posted October 20, 2013 How did it go? Looking at the weather now wish I had made the effort. Was ok. Very wet with biiig puddles. After the first puddle i was drenched. Wind was light at the beginning just enough for the 8m had to work it alot though. It was picking up after 10am but after 2 hours sitting in a water filled buggy i was quite cold and went back to car. While putting my stuff in the car realized i forgot my harness so had a jog back to the shed and back what warmed me up again. In the end it wasnt the best session i ever had but worth it, had a few fast runs over the 50km/h and the sun was shining that was a plus. Quote
trot Posted October 20, 2013 Report Posted October 20, 2013 Hi guys , Glad someone made the effort and at least you got a couple of good run. As the saying goes " He who dares wins " Congrats Alfa75. looks good for Tuesday Trot Quote
gum-nuts Posted October 20, 2013 Author Report Posted October 20, 2013 Wednesday looks better just wondering if there is anyway I could get the day off work (officially!) but Wednesdays are usually busy It's looking dry all week and the forecast for Sunday looks ok - but that will probably change.
