  3. Hey, For people who dont remember or didnt see my thread at the begining of the year about my kiting injury.... I broke my neck and back in 3 places kiteboaring in The Netherlands. Well... I managed a 100% recovery well I say 100%, I have the odd back ache here and there but Im not compaining after such horrific injurys which could of been so much worse. Techniclly im still recovering now, i feel fine but obviously im taking it easy. The treatment I went through, to me was one of the hardest things ive ever had to do. I would never wish it on anyone. I had to wear a halo traction frame on my head for 12 weeks, this involved 4 pins screwed into my skull... the halo frame totally imbolised all movement in my neck to let it heal. Also 2 vertebraes were broken in my upper back, this complicated things alot. I had to wear a corset made from plaster around my chest which hurt like sh!t! for 12 weeks but also laying still and flat on my back for 6 weeks in bed. That was hard, 6 weeks dont sound long but boy, it felt like forever. My girlfriend who I now consider a 'saint' looked after me the whole way. I dont know what I would of done without her. Anyway the 12 week nightmare ended on the 23rd of April. After another CT scan all was clear, all bones had healed perfectly and the halo and corset was removed there and then. Its up there as one of the happiest days of my life Will I kite again... of course i wil I will admit my North Evo which caused the damage, does scare me now. It will be on top of the wardrobe collecting dust for some time i think. Anyway kiting is still far off on my agenda, but one day... I dont want to scare people, just make people be more aware. Plus its good to get it off my chest Thanks to the people who wrote to me in support, it did help Keep safe, Guy
  4. Lucky enough I was with my girlfriend at the time who called for the ambulance. Weirdly enough, I got up shortly after the fall and and walked 15 minutes back to the car whilst holding my head! Dont ask how, I just did doctors were baffled too. My girlfriend lugged all my gear back with her, in one trip aswell... bless her. I do have a picture actually, straight after the accident with me lieing in the sandpit. I knew there was something wrong so I seen the photo opportunity. So I asked my girlfriend to snap a picture... whilst fighting back the pain and trying to force out a smile. I will post it up on here when im all better... Anyway update on my progress... Im doing well, almost 6 weeks now, half way there! 6 more weeks to go and I get this awfull brace off. My spirits getting brighter, the support off everyone has been incredible so I thank you all too. I will keep you all updated Keep safe, Guy
  5. Mark cheers dude
  6. Hey all thank you for the messages of support, it does actualy mean alot to me. Im sorry for the lack of detail, I'll be honest the whole ordeal has been abit rough, I guess im still at that stage of believing it could of been prevented which annoys me. So talking about it I also find annoying lol Well... it could of been prevented like most accidents. Anyway it was roughly a month ago now, I was doing a spot of landboarding on a stretch of beach in The Netherlands (which by the way made things a little tougher since I dont speek a word of Dutch) The wind was at various speeds, gusty an blowing onshore. Tide started to come in so the area was getting smaller. I noticed I was getting closer towards the dunes so i stopped, picked up my board and tried to make my way further down beach to find some larger area. At that point which was silly of me, I decided to have a little mess with the kite and lost it... was thrown into a dune, shot up one side and thrown down a steep drop on the other side. I know the accident doesnt sound half as horrific as the injuries I got but also the injuries I got, im very lucky with them too. Im functioning totally fine and doctors say ill be back kiting in 7 months. To me that sounds a little ropey to be honest lol I think im going to leave it for at least a good year or two now I fractured my C2 in my neck... a "hangman fracture" they called it and i also fractured my T4 and T5 in my upper back. 12 week recovery time which is rather long considering I have to spend 6 of it lieing on my back! lol But like I said I wanted something good to come from it, at least so people would take a little more care and not take the unnecessary risks alot of us do. So again, please... dont take risks and take care flying
  7. In a nutshell: Broken neck, broken back! Healing well and on road to full recovery.... Please all kite lovers, take care and keep the risks to a minimum. Old news to some I know but I'd like at least some benefit to come from my accident. Keep safe peeps

  18. I dont know that kite?... Anyway... all power kites come with some degree of fun dont they?? Or is that just me being an newbie? Ive been flying kites for around year an half and i love it! Im totaly hooked to the sport, so I find interest in all kites. Besides that, I do alot of recreational flying, mainly due to me still being at the early stages of learning how to kitesurf and landboard haha. I fly both depower and fixed... i find them both equally fun. Each to their own
  19. all kites are fun!
