Guvner and his work mate rolling up a kite, Al and Andy buggying it up I've only started kiting in the last year, learnt to kitesurf in Feb 09, and switched to landboard only since winter this year, I had about 10 goes before it got stolen!

will try to get out there again this weekend despite still no board looks windy now, maybe ok for the weekend??? Forecast for Friday Partly cloudy with a shower or two about, more frequent with some snow possible on the western ranges. Fresh to strong and gusty west to northwesterly winds, possibly reaching gale force above 1200m at times. Winds easing and turning southerly tonight.

i have noticed that the wind is pretty good as well i plan to get a quiet kite in after work at a nearby oval on the way home i love this 3m PL hornet i have on demo atm
-
hi all, this is my first attempt at a vid. this is from about a month ago out at the local Amaroo oval in ACT, we can get some decent wind, this is the 1.5 "NEW" trainer kite (WA ebay $150 and still going strong despite many people stacking it - hard!) go the trainer! wish i could try the demo 3m PL hornet i have right now but no board quite yet

left it unchained on the front balcony of my CBR unit (in Braddon), took them about 3 weeks to notice it... there is a fence thats about 4' high in one spot, they've just hopped over and gone "that looks nice" have reported to police but i don't have much hope. i have insurance but the excess is $1000 doh! clever of me to lower my premium by making the excess so high wasn't it?! needless to say it'll be stored in the lockup from now on so i'll be saving up for a mbs atom 95x i think as i prefer the footstraps over my GI AK 103 as they are more windsurf-like to me. i did like the GI though, not bad at all for the price and it got me going for sure. does kitepower offer any % off for EK like Briskites? on the bright side i got my 2nd demo kite a few days later and that cheered me up real quick, it's the peter lynn hornet 3m and i like it alot!

thanks for the words of support - good to see it's only downhill from here i'm still at the down winding stage no boosting for a while yet i hope! body armour is in the mail!!! it's been a while since i've logged on but since this post i've had a few more sessions. in CBR this last week we've had 20 to 30 knot westerlies and i got out the 4.5 and the 1.5 trainer. the 4.5 quickly got damn scary so i dropped back to the trainer and got a few more down wind rolls. this arvo i got in a quick session down at dickson ovals but the wind was a very patchy 0 to 10 knot N to NW. 4.5m savage demo kite was up and i was able to jump onto the board and get a few slightly less than downwind runs but it was very light breeze and kept dropping out. from the session today i think i have a less severe dose, i'm still up at 3am watching fed v roddick in the 5th set, 13-12 and still counting! so it's not sleep depriving this time but it's helping me stay up. forecast is for moderate W to SW here and sunny, but in CBR clear skies simply means frost the next day. hoping that the dickson ovals will be lit for the school kids training but with none of the kids since it's holidays!!! best things in life are free, and that includes 5 by 2 lots of soccer fields lit up for my private evening use hehe

Kitesurfer wants to try a atb in north canberra
skinduptruk replied to Guvner01234's topic in Meets & Events
i'm no expert but you're welcome to have a go of my humble GI AK103 its at the lower end of the $ spectrum but it's been going ok so far... i live in watson soon to be civic so just suggest a time, amaroo or dickson ovals are my preferred areas. amaroo is quiet with good wind but is not lit dickson gets crowded evenings but is lit. sometimes its perfect with lights on but all soccer training cancelled am yet to landboard there properly though, only static flying. i've landboarded amaroo a few times but i'm still in the downwind phase. other people with landboards are strag and techno i think they'd also give you a go. oh and welcome to the site! hope to catch you out there sometime. we had three kiters out on amaroo today, great to have more. -
i went for a landboard 12 hours ago and I STILL can't sleep! i've put a post up on the ACT forum http://www.extremekites.com.au/forums/showthread.php?t=11495http://www.extremekites.com.au/forums/showthread.php?t=11495 but to repeat i was on the demo kite 4.5m eolo savage with my recently bought GI AK103 at a good price from briskites. it's going well so far thanks guys. i don't know if its something i ate or just the adrenaline washing thru my system. i had a few fairly impressive stacks today (think what happens when you catch the front edge while moving and with the kite sweeping low thru the window), and i get the occasional little tweak of pain here and there. i'm hoping my body isn't trying to tell me it's injured in a more serious way, but i keep thinking that my stacks weren't much worse than a few footy tackles surely?! but then again i don't play footy to pass some time i've tightened all the nuts and bolts on my board while watching the back to back infomercials (exciting life i lead isn't it). so many exercise routines, i say try strapping into an unstable board and hold a kite that can pull you off your feet, there's your ab workout! i had a laugh when i saw one guy promoting a type of exercise called "muscle confusion" i think we've got that one covered as well. 5am - at least the soccer is on sbs - i planned to get up in one more hour - oh well. get to work early, coffee, work, coffee, lunch, coffee, work, coffee, leave early, and kite again depending how i feel by the avo :|

even though the BOM said light winds, it got up to 10 to 15 NW i got to Amaroo about 330pm and it was blowing a nice 10 knots. got moving on the 4.5m eolo savage and decided to try and step up the power a notch. i soon learned that there is a "front edge" even on landboards and got dumped ribs first onto the afl center bounce area - am currently bidding on some ebay body armour after that! got dumped again as strag turned up, but this time with an added pull across the ground on my back as i tried to hold onto the kite. eventually i figured out to let one line go and it landed safely. strag said he wished he had a camera rolling from the car, same here. i had a break as strag and andyfly setup, and the three of us had a nice little 20mins of the 10 to 15 knots before it died off to 5 to 10, and it was getting dark anyway. i'm still learning so i won't review the kite just yet. i plan to kite tomorrow avo at dickson, hopefully i can lock the kite in and get a chance to try and build up an edge across the wind a little more instead of the big downwinders i'm currently doing!

i think that 4m is the one andy gave me and said "its a low lift kite" as i saw the ground shrinking away from under my feet! watch those cold fronts coming this week!
-
do you need snow chains to get to Kiandra?
-
i'd agree, v nice spot, want to provide a google earth link?
-
how do i download the HQ file, it has a download button that don't work, my adsl is too slow to watch live
-
right now its 15 to 25 knots, temp is 8 deg with apparent temp 1 deg! my office on the other hand is 21 deg i think i'll wait until next weekend
-
its 930am and its already NW 13 to 16 knots at the AP W 15 to 20 knots with stronger gusts during the day says the forecast i'm gonna be there asap! PS being CBR, its currently 8 deg with apparent temp of 3 deg, expecting a max of 12 deg with apparent of about 4 deg i'd say

geez i'm a bit slow - first demo kites now the 10% discount, didn't know about that! that is definitely more tempting to go new. given its already wed i'll goto mayday to get further ideas and then consider what to do from there. getting a 2nd hand board for under $200 is still plan A, can give it a few more weeks. but once that demo kite gets here, temptation could be too much!
-
but they start at $400 that's waaaay out of my price range atm
-
done and done - will get my first kite in a matter of weeks, should be good. i'm originally from up north, missing it being in the nations capital this time of year i tell ya
