Many of you would be aware of the Relay for Life events held to raise money for the Cancer Council - I know some of you get involved in your local area. A couple of you would be aware that my mum died last year due to cancer. What none of you would know is what my son, Zac, did last year at the Liverpool Relay for Life. Zac (still 5 years old at last years event) walked more 20 km over the course of the day, and he also raised just over $1000. We were celebrating the fact that his Nanna (my mum) had beaten cancer - she had recently been given the all clear… but things changed very quickly, and three days after this event, she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and died 2 months later (very aggressive tumor). This year, we will be walking in memory of Zac's Nanna, and Zac is taking the whole thing pretty seriously If you would like to see a bit of what Zac did last year, you can follow this link (he inspired quite a few of us adults last year) If you would like to help Zac raise money for the Cancer Council, you can follow this link (it is also linked from the youtube video) http://relay.cancercouncil.com.au/a/201 ... ubs/281262 Remeber, all donations over $2 are tax deductible and you will get an instant online receipt. thanks

hmmm... friggin weather wondering whether the weather will get wetter... do I wanna go to Wanda instead...?
-
OK, I'm away this weekend, but I've got tomorrow afternoon and the ute is already packed. It felt so good just doing that (been soo long...) Anyway, my plan is to get to 7 mile around 3:30 (ridiculous luck will get me there earlier, but thereabouts will have to do) Conditions look OK to good, so as soon as I finish work, I'm making a bee line to the beach. Anyone else planning on flying tomorrow arvo? Grant
-
At least you got to go... I am so bummed that I wasn't able to make it. Planets have not aligned well at all this year. Looks like it was a fun weekend - as it always is, I guess
-
It's just game, it's just a game, it's just a game.... Oh, how I wished I believed that
-
The worst NSW team ever picked, now injury riddled, up at suncorp, Darren Lockyers last State of Origin game. Such an embarrassing game for QLD to lose...
-
Shame about Darren Lockyer's last game

I'm out that weekend (doing relay for life - and would gladly take any donations. I can send anyone the info for online donations if you want). Anyway, no flying for me that weekend. Mind you, I can't do the 14th/15th either - which is the other good weekend. As it turns out, I'm actually working the other two weekends... but I can re-arrange those weekends.(not good tides, but dunes are still there). Oh well, you can't please everybody... especially those with jobs and/or little kids. Grant

I'd love to come down, but can't tomorrow. Unfortunately, and very annoyingly, I don't seem to have much available time at all, before daylight savings runs out. I'm hoping for a run down to 7 mile for a mid week afternoon/evening session before daylight savings does go - but I don't know when that will be...
-
It should be a long weekend... as every weekend should be. but I'm pretty sure it ain't
-
Which long weekend is that ? At the moment I'm working that Saturday (but can easily swap) - and I'm pretty sure there aren't any long weekends in May. If it's not a long weekend I'd vote for the 14th - but if it is a long weekend I'd vote for any other weekend. You sure it's a long weekend? Grant

just a bit - I managed to flip my dragster twice. Not hard to do when the dune you're on is not the one you thought you were on 5 minutes before, and instead it's the other one with the big drop on the other side... that flip wasn't bad, actually. I really just got lifted out of the buggy as it dropped below me - I landed OK, no real drama. The second flip had me singing the praises of full face helmets - as the dragster flipped with me in it and made sure my helmet was pummelled into the nice soft sand. Thought I was OK until I woke up this morning with pretty stiff and sore neck and shoulders. I had just been mucking around in the small dunes just off the beach, doing little power slides around the bushes, when I hear a snap, the world turned around, I felt the thud of a big foot on my head, the kite dragged me out from under the buggy, and as I reach back for the bar, I notice that the primary safety release is actually out of reach. Turns out the snap noise was a buckle on the harness, and the kite is attached to one side of my harness via a now extended belt. I was able to reach the chiken loop, at least. I'm not exactly sure what happenned first, and unfortunately, Troy's wife had just stopped filming me before this happened, so I can't watch it back... but I'm pretty sure I know what happened. Anyway, that all happened towards the end of a really fun day in the dunes. And all the little safety items did their jobs so I can still look back on the day as a good one. Sounds silly, but I enjoyed the crash... after I got up OK, that is Unfortunately, I missed out on today partly because the only decent breeze was really forecast for later in the afternoon when I would have to leave anyway, and partly because my equipment and body are not quite up to scratch today (Minor repairs needed - I'm just waiting for my masseuse... missus... to get home (always get those two spellings mixed up). I've actually got to spend time at the computer now writing an exam - and that's not going to help my neck. I hope the breeeze follows the forecast tomorrow for you guys up there who are lucky enough to have the day off. Cheers Grant

I'd be happy to stay another night or two also . . . . . ........except I bloody well can't - and the forecast is telling Monday is the good day. Oh well, still looking forward to getting back into the dunes on Saturday
-
It's going to come early... It's got to come early... I hope it comes early... I'm not there Monday, so that change better bloody well come early or I'll go nuts - I haven't got the timing right with wind and my availability for a long, long time. Mind you, I'm looking forward to the dunes

What do you mean good, JD - Like yesterday or more SE? I checked out the shack's weather info and it seemed the same direction as yesterday. Tomorrow unlikely... but never out of the question. Thursday we're heading to Jambaroo, with hopefully enough cars so that I can duck away early for a fly at 7 mile for the arvo. Friday looks free - 7 mile again?
-
Hoping to get there JD, but won't know until tomorrow morning
-
You'll have to count me out - we're still out in the country doing the rounds, catching up with friends and relatives, etc I'm absolutely hanging for a fly, though. Back on about the 6th, watching the wind. I'll even put up with a bit of post-Ashes ribbing from HP, but won't care so much if the wind is good. Grant
-
working next weekend JD? I'm heading up to Newcastle for a party Saturday night (17th), so I'm thinking... Friday, Saturday and Sunday are bound to have some good in them somewhere as far as buggying goes. I noticed Friday has a prediction of 20knot southerlies all day - which of course will change 1000 times before Saturday happens... but it looks promising. I need a run, who's in? Gareth, you still got my water backpack thingy? what's in it? You can give it back to me... all you have to do is turn up at Stockton for a buggy. Grant

Awesome video I'm back tomorrow morning - when are we flying next? All the way to Romo and back - and no wind... I'm hanging to get out for a fly
-
You guys are getting some good time in at Stockton! I hope there's some decent days waiting for me when I get back in a couple of weeks. Hey G, you're from somewhere near Kent aren't you? We're at Faversham at the moment - 27 degrees today.
-
May I suggest another location? We ducked over here yesterday, but there was no wind... Just a few sightly frustrated Germans Nope... Legoland tomorrow, then hoping Romo picks up over the next few days... Still a few more weeks travelling after that. Saw some great pics of Mayday, though. Spoke to few German buggiers yesterday - they've heard of Stockton

Hey! we were in Oslo a couple of days ago - 2 nights there, and loved it. Spent a bit of time down at the harbour, where the Eurovision stuff is happening. If you get the chance, check out Frogner-Parken. It's the park where there's a billion and one sculptures. It's a pretty cool place. We're travelling with a 4 year old, so probably doing different stuff to you I guess. Just got back from a big hike at Balestrand (in the fjords).
-
I should check in here more often! Things have been a bit crazy this year, but I can't believe I missed this thread. I'm going to be in Tonder (only one hour from Romo?) for a just over week in June (4th to 13th). I've been wondering about getting over there to see/join in any action. Does anyone buggy midweek? The people we're staying with have all sorts of plans, but I'm sure I could fit a trip to Romo in on a good buggy day... Grant Jeez OBEwan - only miss you by a couple of weeks... that would have been a pretty cool place to meet another Aussie kiter... oh well

Don't want to miss Mayday - but I'll be in Norway. Best idea is not to come unstuck in the first place, Troy
