After drooling over the MG Vertical and having had a play in the Blokart at Kingston, I thought 'well I've already got a really comfy buggy....how hard could it be to turn it into a landyacht. Like this.... I cannot believe how similar it looks to the MG Vertical!! And didn't cost a cent. OK, seriously, I want to be able to convert the Vmax without any drilling or alterations made to the Libre itself - bolt on, bolt off. So I made a mock-up out of whatever I could grab in the shed to test the theory of clamping the bottom and swan neck brackets on to support the mast step (the bit that the mast goes into). I'll grab some 10mm alloy plate on Monday, the…

This all started because of moving house. Not as many places to fly although i was very near a large common pasture ( Beverley Westwood ) In the summer the place is full of dog walkers , children , cows and cow sh#t and lots of grown men in rupert bear trousers hitting little white balls with bats ,then trying to find them in the rough grass. But in winter its a bit of a bleak place the walking sh#it machines have gone indoors or into burgers and only the hardiest dog walkers tackle the mud and slopes. I had a short time kite buggying around the westwood , the ground was not great with a fair few slopes but it was almost doable, but after a …

Wednesday night, after I'd already retired to bed comes a knock at the door. "Gday Doug, go wake Mezz up, I have a present for her." It's almost 10pm and @.Joel is standing in our front room with a grin from ear to ear and in his arms, a yellow sail bag with "Gaastra Sails" printed across the bag. He and @Chook had been talking and had come up with the idea. I've been trying to locate a second hand blokart 3m sail but they're silly prizes. So knowing Doug is a bit handy with the sewing machine from making kites, Joel brought around a "Gaastra Wavefoil 4.6 Sail" with the idea to get Doug ( @igeighty) to make up a custom 3m sail for me, in pretty colours. So the "buil…

I have been meaning to ask the forum about helmets. At what speed would I need to be travelling to warrant a motorbike crash helmet? As you know, Im not a speed freak and my skill level is nothing like @Chooks but when you think how fast 40km in a car or motorbike is (relevant to the ground) its pretty fast in a land yacht/kite buggy. I wear a 661 bicycle crash helmet at the moment as Im not exceeding speeds faster than a push bike. Its light and comfortable for my neck and it does not effect my peripheral vision. What are your through EK?

this years project, LL Mini in 316 stainless (if I can salvage the right steel). I don't think they make stop sign poles out of stainless so it wont be as good as yours @Chook.

Just thought I'd share an event with you all. - Tried creating an event but it refused On Saturday 8th August 2015, the Victoria Blokart Association will be meeting at the boat ramp at 9am (opposite the children's park, and by the toilets) just on the road to Waratah Bay Caravan Site. Here, we'll set up the blokarts (either on the street, or if you can drive on the beach, down on the sand) and have a session of fun races and general beach runs. And of course, plenty of opportunities to have a go yourself. Low tide is at 11.07am at about 0.55m however its too early to see what the weather will be. Usually three days before is a good estimate and I can let you all kno…

I've been wanting to do a little write up on this company as the land yachts that they create are things of beauty. At least to me. They look incredibly sleek, stable and fast. Like this... They've got a whole heap of different models from the basic, to the slightly weird to the sleek speed weapons. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Since Jean-Phillippe Krischer was 9 years old, he's been building land yachts. That was 40 something years ago. In 1984, together with Christine Touati, he founded Seagull Landyachts. Both are European and World champions. Based in Brittany with a small staff of around 7 dedicated people they manufacture some of the most beautiful l…

So if my Garmin Watch reads accurately - I reached 62.8kph at 13th Beach (Barwon Heads) yesterday afternoon. My PB! Be it all for less than a second - I felt the gust and by the time I managed to glance at my watch, I was back in the 30's again. I think John was following me, and may have footage....Anyway it was a good run, my best so far in means of turning, tactics and hopefully if this is correct, my fastest on three wheels ever! ( or even two at one stage)

I have toyed with the idea of building an RC Land Yacht as a little project and today I have come across these Land Yacht Kits from Hobby King. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__76854__HobbyKing_8482_Bat_1_RC_Land_Yacht_Kit_AU_Warehouse_.html http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__76850__HobbyKing_8482_Bat_1_RC_Land_Yacht_PNP_AU_Warehouse_.html Looks like they could be a bit of fun. G'day everyone! jhn.holgate asked if I would take a moment to sit down and write a little something about my new hobby of which I think most of you will have an interest in. Yes, I've got myself a Blokart (Land Yacht) After much debate over the fact that I'm never going to grow any taller to reach the stirring bar of Doug's (igeighty) Peter Lynn Buggy, I test sailed a Blokart and was hooked! Blokart is the brand name - again an extreme sport product coming out of New Zealand and ever becoming popular across the globe, much like the kite buggying. So what's different between the Blokart and Buggy? Well quite a lot....first of all, 3 minutes of set up and your read…

From the folks that bought you the MG Reverse, comes the MG Vertical - a buggy crossed with a land yacht. Does anyone have any good tips for getting the winning lotto ticket? These look like a lot of fun. Info here: http://www.mg-kites.com/site/products/kitebuggy/mg-vertical/

Taken from the Boys Brigade Australia Blokart Manual, how to correctly behave around another land yacht, and I'd assume kite buggy also. I try and not go under the lines of the kites and stick close to the water edge.

So another proposed run out at Waratah Bay for the VBA group, a 9am start at the boat ramp (see 8th August post for location details) I'm hoping the weather will be nice enough to get in a good day of Blokarting/Buggying. We shall probably do a day trip as the nights are still on the cold side to test out the camper trailer, but have you noticed the mornings are lighting up? I get excited this time of year as it means that the days of going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark are finally out numbered for the rest of this year. So watch this space and I hope a few - if the day goes ahead, are able to come down and have a play on the sand. From Mez

Here's a beautifully filmed doco on the 2014 Land Sailing World Championships held at Smith Creek in Nevada. It's not so much the race, but a look at the Playa, the weather, the people, why they race and what they race. It's a long vid, so if there's rubbish on TV, grab a beverage and sit down in front of this in HD (it's a little over 35minutes). There's some stunning footage of storms and even a little twister on the playa. One of the best vids I've seen on youtube and much better than all the crap on TV at the moment.
