PaulLaurie Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 Anyone trying the offshores today, bored and need to get out!
Match Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 Let the injuries commence eh? d'ya mean BH weekend + easterlies? No, was refering to my attempts at aerial buggy rotations. Council are fine with us starting up Thursday evening meets again, so ready when you are. The issues with the data output for the wind meter will be sorted this week.
Match Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 Couple of bits of info from todays KZUP meeting: - Permits can now be obtained during office hours Mon-Fri and until 1pm Sat & Sun. Appointments still need to be made with Gill or Julie. Should make things a little easier. - New signs are up and in place. Amended rules supporting these signs will be rolled out this month (no major changes) and a disciplinary system will be in place. I feel this system secures the future of kiting at Ainsdale, punishing the rule breakers rather than threatening a blanket ban on kiting activity. - One for the diary - The beach is closed to all kiting activity on the weekend 28th & 29th June.
SandMonster Posted May 3, 2008 Author Report Posted May 3, 2008 - One for the diary - The beach is closed to all kiting activity on the weekend 28th & 29th June. That's Glasto weekend, so... ...are we bovvered?

That's Glasto weekend, so... ...are we bovvered? Just what I was thinking, all the right minded good people of the earth are bathing themselves in sun mud at a farm in the west country. Please please don't rain too much this year

Bobby Posted May 11, 2008 Report Posted May 11, 2008 Good to see Degsy, Jackie and Jeff down there - don't see enough of that cool crowd. http://www.bobmcgee.com/images/kites/degs3.jpg Recycling the driftwood makes for cool flames. And not a sign of that the next day, the arborist cleaned it up a treat - nice one. http://www.bobmcgee.com/images/kites/degs1.jpg Loads of cool crowds in the Sands twas rockin' Friday and Saturday night cos of the Southport Weekender at Pontins - got dragged in as the oldest swinger but enjoyed it Really cool friendly atmosphere and after a few Fosters, house music sounded very nearly OK . Got talking to one of the owners (I think she was) said Sunday at the Sands would be a night not to be missed cos one of the weekender star DJs usually does a turn. Not for me though dudes - probably off to Lligwy camping tomorrow for a couple of days - these Easterlies are getting on my tit, hoping Tuesdays Easterlie might be enough for a sail on that Welsh beach.

mathers Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 Any landboarders/buggiers going in search of wind and hard sand this weekend? Thinking of trip to the East coast or to Anglesey.
Bobby Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 Just back from a Lligwy camping trip - fanbloodytastic. With this weather and an Easterlie 20 it was just the best place. http://www.bobmcgee.com/images/kites/lligwy1.jpg Click on this one dudes - the place is worth it. Early morning peaceful and still. Get a hangover from that pub in Moelfre, then this is the place to clear out em headaches. http://www.bobmcgee.com/images/kites/lligwy2.jpg From up round the cliff - guys getting it on to kite that tide in. http://www.bobmcgee.com/images/kites/lligwy3.jpg Cool moves http://www.bobmcgee.com/images/kites/lligwy4.jpg Yeh, OK another cool move http://www.bobmcgee.com/images/kites/lligwy7.jpg But how cool is my toeside near rockslide http://www.bobmcgee.com/images/kites/lligwy5.jpg Majestic beach with majestic scenery http://www.bobmcgee.com/images/kites/lligwy10.jpg Majestic beach with majestic scenery ........and there's more
Bobby Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 http://www.bobmcgee.com/images/kites/lligwy9.jpg My wee home - perfect escape from the world - those Gelert Quickpitch DS4 tents are the dogs bollacks http://www.bobmcgee.com/images/kites/lligwy8.jpg One pretty picture from the campsite - note the campsite now has a new warden - spot the new CCTV, fantastic showers and even wifi - though why would anyone in this tranquility want to ever plug 'enselves back into the rat race . http://www.bobmcgee.com/images/kites/lligwy6.jpg From the car park - that greeny van next to the red hatch was the Turbulence crew http://www.bobmcgee.com/images/kites/lligwy11.jpg Cheers to the friendly bunch of kiters I met down there - and I even forgive that French nooby guy on that Helix who got lofted and whacked me good style as I was screaming along in the shallows - now got some cool blue patterns up the left side but all's well . Easterlies now hold no fear .
Bobby Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 Yeh, I know it's boring but a few more. http://www.bobmcgee.com/images/kites/lligwy12.jpg Kited with this dude most of the day. http://www.bobmcgee.com/images/kites/lligwy13.jpg They'd be a hard stretch then a soft stretch but so clean, littered with none of the **** we have, even the tideline was so crapfree (bit uninteresting - cos never no what you'd find at Ainsdale) http://www.bobmcgee.com/images/kites/lligwy14.jpg See that pink ballon in the middle - chased this for ages - never did catch it . http://www.bobmcgee.com/images/kites/lligwy15.jpg One cool abode . Few tips if you ever camp there. Dafarn Rhos Caravan and Camping Site Lligwy Beach Moelfre Anglesey LL72 8NN Phone: 01248 410 607 Tents £14/night, got to be off by 11am of morning of departure, you can stay until 5pm but it'll cost you a tenner (bit extortionate as the place is empty this time of year - you could just move the motor to the beach car park, think it costs about £2 but nobody about at the moment). They've a new car barrier system in place at the camp site which is soon (any day now) going to shut at sundown so you'd have to leave your motor outside if you get back late - health and safety thing they said but think this is one daft idea and let them know it. Good pub in Moelfre (only one) - can't remember the name - does decent grub but best place IMHO is a few doors away called Ann's Pantry - bit expensive but very good stuff and they do a mean full English breakfast. If you do the walk up over the cliffs to Moelfre dont attempt this route at night after a skinful, even with moonshine and a lantern - take the road route back to the camp . (Or better still a taxi - taxi cab cards are pinned on the board in the pub.) http://www.bobmcgee.com/images/kites/lligwy16.jpg If you wanna go posh there's a chalet with a fantastic view of the beach - expensive but sleeps 4 - but suppose you prob could sqeeze more in (check with Roy the warden) (this time of the year it's £444 a week). Even swisher there's the cottage with an even better view - but even more £££ss. Sleeps more, 6-8 I think. Anyway thats it - does look easterly for the weekend though .
Match Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 http://www.bobmcgee.com/images/kites/lligwy8.jpg One pretty picture from the campsite - note the campsite now has a new warden - spot the new CCTV, fantastic showers and even wifi - though why would anyone in this tranquility want to ever plug 'enselves back into the rat race . That looks like the field I landed in after trying to ride the dune at Lligwy a few years back. Got fully lofted out of the bug, must have been 10m high and travelled 100-150m. I remember thinking "That bush will stop me" then cleared it, then thinking "OK, that bush will stop me" and going straight through it, then thinking "5h1t, that fence will stop me" and coming to a stop backwards against a barbed wire fence. Kite came down, nose down in that field. Packed up pronto and haven't been back since. Looks gorgeous in the spring sunshine, nice pics.

If i ever come beack to visit that place would be on my list along with the mecca that is BRS. Good to see what everyones up to. Matt, i recall hearing that story b4 is that where you picked up the nickname "bramble boy"? Take care Chris
Match Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 Hey Chris, good to hear from you. Hope all is well in the land down under. No, that was another dune/lofting/bush incident over on the east coast. Got the buggy stuck in soft dunes, powered the kite through the window and the only thing that moved was me. Straight through a bramble bush. I looked liked I'd tried to rape a cat. I stay away from dunes and bushes now.
