  1. Anyone still flying at Heaton Park?
  2. LOL Myself and a group of friends used to fly heaton park for years until most of us migrated to Ainsdale beach. Never got any hassle there. Best place is in the field of the papal monument. Big field but as with most inshore sites wind can be a bit lumpy. I live close by and still go for an occasional fly or frisbee session on a summer eve.
  3. Yippee! Christened my 2011 beach trips. Hope I get there more this year than last.
  4. Hoping to get down there too tomorrow, looks good :-) First time this year Anyone else from the old irregulars?
  5. North Westerly is perfect, but winds from North to West work ok. Low tide obviously gives you the most beach. Avoid anything with an S in the direction as it will be off shore and horribly gusty as the dunes mess up the currents badly.
  6. Ainsdale is a great place for the sport, the ideal condition for land kiting is low tide and a NW wind which is bang on shore. There is still space available during some mid-high tides but it depends on how high it gets. Not sure what's best for being on the water but sure many on here can tell you. I guess there are more people down at weekends but in a good wind there will usually be someone down there. Everyone is pretty friendly so don't be afraid to ask stuff and get advice. You'll get to try other gear too which is always good. Have fun.
  7. Great day, cheers for the beer Bobby, goes down well as always. Jeff, did you make it today? spoke to a few people I hadn't met before but guess not you. Entrance certainly is a bit of a nightmare, they will be stuffed on the next realy hot weekend. Good to get back out
  8. I'll be there about 1pm, no point too early as tide high so gonna wait for some beach
  9. Don't think getting it wet will be so bad but is the plaster going to prevent your Glastonbury tent erection
  10. Jeff, Depower is a breeze compared to the non-depower stuff in your bag. I moved over (land only so far) to depower and loved it. Maybe have a go at a couple of land depower jobs just to get used to the bar first. You're certainly welcome to try mine but I'm not down as often as I'd like nowadays. I used to have a 3m firebee too, my first power kite and loved it at first as had no comparison but nasty evil devils once you got into blades etc Once you move into depower it's another step change for the better in my opinion. Have fun
  11. jtshort42 re AOSPKC, Bobby's correct, you don't have to join AOSPKC, your pass and insurance is all you need to enjoy Ainsdale so go for it. Link to AOSPKC is http://www.aospkc.co.uk/ and the site is still up but not a lot of activity recently. It was more of a social thing rather than a requirement to join to use Ainsdale.
  12. We're up for that (as we wimped out on the same said camping trip) although did a Go-Ape & Oulton Park F3 & GT race instead. (I came 3rd ) Shell or Gwynant would be good (Shell got a bar though ) Can't do 21-23 May though, but else just suggest a date.
  13. Nope, think it's ok, all of my left side hurts though
  14. Crackin' day Gromit
  15. Looks worthwhile to me, first dip of 2010 in order I think.
  16. Anyone on here been down the beach at all recently, just wondered if it's still there?. Got my 'fair weather' kiter head on due to age so not been down. Doh! Just looked at forecast and looks perfect for today and the suns out in Manc. Mother's day stops play though Somebody should have a ball today?
  17. You can kite surf if you get a permit (links above) but car sand sledging is a big no no! Aside from the fact it's dumb and dangerous there is a 10mph speed limit in the car parking area and it's a designated highway so you will be done by the police. The beach is covered by the highways act meaning all the same restrictions apply as for driving on the road. You could car sledge up the M1 or M6 on the way if you wanted although you may just get done there too
  18. Bother, I've always been turning left once on the beach. Would I have been having more fun on the right? Which beach permit do I need for that?
  19. Mate of mine lives in a house less than 6 months old and his downstairs loo is 1 door off the kitchen. There were all sorts of regs. it has to conform too like doors wide enough for wheel chairs, all have to close on springs for fire regs. (pain in the arse he reckons so lots of door stops in use) . I should emagine that the 1 door is ok then.
  20. Sunday, zero cloud, sun, 13mph westerly, dare we for our first 2010 trip of err 2010 to the 'dale
  21. Good, should be sooner Thanks for that Mike, didn't have the updates links Happy 2010
