LOL Myself and a group of friends used to fly heaton park for years until most of us migrated to Ainsdale beach. Never got any hassle there. Best place is in the field of the papal monument. Big field but as with most inshore sites wind can be a bit lumpy. I live close by and still go for an occasional fly or frisbee session on a summer eve.
North Westerly is perfect, but winds from North to West work ok. Low tide obviously gives you the most beach. Avoid anything with an S in the direction as it will be off shore and horribly gusty as the dunes mess up the currents badly.
Ainsdale is a great place for the sport, the ideal condition for land kiting is low tide and a NW wind which is bang on shore. There is still space available during some mid-high tides but it depends on how high it gets. Not sure what's best for being on the water but sure many on here can tell you. I guess there are more people down at weekends but in a good wind there will usually be someone down there. Everyone is pretty friendly so don't be afraid to ask stuff and get advice. You'll get to try other gear too which is always good. Have fun.
Great day, cheers for the beer Bobby, goes down well as always.
Jeff, did you make it today? spoke to a few people I hadn't met before but guess not you.
Entrance certainly is a bit of a nightmare, they will be stuffed on the next realy hot weekend.
Good to get back out
Jeff, Depower is a breeze compared to the non-depower stuff in your bag. I moved over (land only so far) to depower and loved it. Maybe have a go at a couple of land depower jobs just to get used to the bar first. You're certainly welcome to try mine but I'm not down as often as I'd like nowadays.
I used to have a 3m firebee too, my first power kite and loved it at first as had no comparison but nasty evil devils once you got into blades etc Once you move into depower it's another step change for the better in my opinion. Have fun
jtshort42 re AOSPKC,
Bobby's correct, you don't have to join AOSPKC, your pass and insurance is all you need to enjoy Ainsdale so go for it.
Link to AOSPKC is http://www.aospkc.co.uk/ and the site is still up but not a lot of activity recently. It was more of a social thing rather than a requirement to join to use Ainsdale.
We're up for that (as we wimped out on the same said camping trip) although did a Go-Ape & Oulton Park F3 & GT race instead. (I came 3rd )
Shell or Gwynant would be good (Shell got a bar though ) Can't do 21-23 May though, but else just suggest a date.
