happypants44 Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 I know the wind looks a bit crap but anyone up for a possible fly somewhere round Sydney this weekend? Looking at saturday morning at the mo come on wind!!! Quote
Luke Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Hi mate I would love to, but I am straight through till next wednesday evening. Pretty sure Troy is in the middle of moving house also this weekend. Umm could you define crap wind? more to the point which website you were looking at the BOM is forecasting this Saturday Outlook: Wind: S/SW 20/25 knots in the morning, easing Yarra Bay would rock in that, ask Skier about that park in Maroubra, not sure how that works in a S-SW Cheers Rocket Quote
BobM Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 My son has a bye in his soccor comp this saturday, my daughter's basketball is my wife's turn to support - so I have the weekend free from distractions. I'm thinking of heading down to Merimbula. Anyone else got ideas BobM Quote
jdhot Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Where about's were you thinking off, might be able to do something. Johnno Quote
scopeman Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 With the southeast winds prevailing on Sunday and the tides also being suitable. Seven Mile Beach is looking mighty fine for a Sunday arvo run. My thoughts, although I really am considering a run down the beach this week anyone up for it. Don Quote
happypants44 Posted February 21, 2008 Author Report Posted February 21, 2008 Where about is 7 mile beach Don? Quote
jdhot Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 Hi HP44 7 Mile Beach is south of Kiama, near Gerroa http://maps.google.com.au/maps?ie=UTF8&z=5&ll=-25.335448,135.745076&spn=31.154942,45.834961&om=1 Johnno Quote
scopeman Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 Hi Gerard, Seven Mile Beach is about 1.45 hours South of Sydney. It is access by turning off the Prince's Highway at Gerringong on to Fern Rd. That will continue through the township of Gerroa and will cross a small river and turn into Crooked River Rd and Eventually Gerroa Rd. Best access to the beach is via McIntosh rd. There is a car park behind the surf club. Check the locations section and check out Gerringong. It is very tempting with a SE blowing. Don Quote
BobM Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 Scopeman, You've made up my mind, I'll head to Gerroa for the weekend. Last time I was seven mile beach, the north end had a lot more sand than the south end. If the tide is good for Sunday - it should be similar for Saturday. BobM Quote
scopeman Posted February 22, 2008 Report Posted February 22, 2008 I'm going to head down to Gerringong on Sunday morning. Hope to be there by 12. my cell number is 0427 642 157 If anyone is heading down Don Quote
jdhot Posted February 22, 2008 Report Posted February 22, 2008 Hi, Just let you know, a couple of mates and I shall head down to 7 mile tomorrow, I've looked up where the surf club is, more shoalhaven end, should be there abt. 12noon ready for the arvo and outgoing tide. See ya's :D:D then Johnno Quote
lickedysplit_au Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 Have fun down there today guys. Looks like plenty of wind down there already. Think of us poor fella's working or moving house whilst you wizz up and down the beach. Looks like offshore at the moment, take it easy Regards, Troy Quote
jdhot Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Hi guys, 2 mates and I hit 7 mile beach around lunchtime yesterday and it was a blast, the wind was blowin' well most of the day (Don would be able to tell you the correct specs), by the time we arrived the tide was going out and the wind had swung around to onshore. Met a few guys from EK over the path of the day, it's nice to see the faces behind the names. Warmed up a bit doin static flying got some good scuds, one of my mates is a newbie so we put him on the 1.5 Imp and when he started to get some confidence and control he had a ball, but wouldn't step up to the 4 liner's maybe next time. Had my first decent go at buggying with good conditions and now the right sort of kites to make it easier to learn and get the knack plus the extra few weeks have improved the flyin skills, I can see why you guys rave about it so much, it's addictive, had some good runs downwind and some reasonable runs upwinds. Still have to work on the turns a bit but I'll get there, really got to remember to turn into the wind, saves getting yank out the back off the buggy, had a few spills but hey that all part of the learning curve. Used my 4mtr Samurai and did the job well, powerful enough to be comfortable without been over the top for a first timer. All in all it was a great day, stayed there till about 7pm when the wind started dying, and if conditions are right probably give it another go next weekend. Cheers for now Johnno. Quote
lickedysplit_au Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Bummer I didn't get down there Johnno, sounds like you guys had a wicked time! So how many kiters did you guys get down there?? Quote
jdhot Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Hi Troy, It was a shame you couldn't make it, but movin's more important. The day turned out to be really worth while, when we located where Don was, we set up half way down the beach, opposite the Berry turn. All up there were six kiter's, 4 buggy's, and a pile of kites, enough to make any kite shop jealous. The wind was blowin strong and clean all day, until about 6 when it started to weaken die by 7pm, of course when your all packed up and ready to go the breeze starts pickin up, just enough to P you off, but it was getting to dark by then anyway. It was good, the tides were really in our favor nice and low, good winds as I said all day, and best of all go 50mtrs north or south of the main beach entry and the rest of the beach was ours. Maybe see you next time. Johnno Quote
scopeman Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Hi all, I got down to Gerringong around 12-00 and went and got some lunch first before heading down to Seven Mile Beach. Went to the carpark at the surf club on McIntosh Rd. Took some wind readings. 16 knots and gusting up to 20 knots. No one else there so decide to head north a bit. Turned in at Beach Rd and stopped in car park. Went down to beach and took some wind readings. It was blowing at 12 knots and gusts to 14 knots. Wind seemed much steadier so decide to unpack the car and get going. Got back to the car and the phone rang it was John (jdhot). He had just go to the surf club with his buddies and was looking for other. When I told him the wind was better here they headed up. 10 mins later I was just unpacking a kite when they showed up. they started setting up, as soon as I had a kite up I was gone. First run was about 2kms up wind towards the surf club and back. I put that kite away and got the 4.5 Cult out. John and Andrew were scudding all over the place whilst Jim was coming to grips with the Imp. The Cult improved the speed quite a bit. I was able to make some nice long runs from where my base camp was to either end of the beach. There weren't too many people around to bother and hats off to the nice young ladies who sat up to watch as we went cruising past. Winds increase about 4pm but dropped off again by 5pm. I flew till just after 5pm when some dark clouds started to roll in. We packed up and was just walking back up the path when we ran into Grant (rowdyblue) who was just on his way down for a fly. Glad he got a couple of hours. Quads were a little tight this morning. I could be persuaded next week. Don Quote
jdhot Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Hi Don, Next weekend would be pretty OK with me, it's not a bad place all up. There predicting stronger winds for Friday, Saturday (maybe rain), Sunday about the same, only draw back mainly blowin from the South, could go from surf club up, very hard going back, does any body know if you can get a 4x4 on the beach at all and if it's legal, I only ask as my son has only just got his 'Ps', but he would come and be a tow truck for us to take back and forth. Quote
lickedysplit_au Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Rub it in some more Don!! LOL. It is a great spot down there, had my first beach runs at ShoalHaven heads. Last time I was there the beach had been fairly washed back but that was a fair while ago. Will definately get down there for a weekend over the next few months. JD, I am 99% sure you can't take 4X4's on the beach, that's why Stockton is such a great place and if your really keen Manning Point is another 4X4 Beach further up North. Manning point is far less populated when it comes to 4X4's compared to Stockton and they tend to be alittle more cautious of you. Quote
jdhot Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Thanks for the advice Troy, Stockton will definitely be on the cards one day soon, shame about no 4x4 on 7 mile might have to make road return trips, talked to Andrew he's in for a return this weekend hopefully winds might turn a bit so don't need to use road transport. Manning point looks OK but a fair hike, might have to make a weekend of it, pack the camping gear. Quote
lickedysplit_au Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Manning point is definately a weekend or even better a long weekend trip. There is a great holiday park that has direct 4X4 access to the beach. Was up there with Ernie last easter and it was amazing, we were doing about 8km runs and that wasn't even all the way. Ernie AKA rainmaker112 gets up there fairly frequently. Quote
rainmaker112 Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 ile be heading up to manning point in april 19th to the 26th hope to get some noice runs. i camp out with the fam at weeroona caravan park 0265532635 should be plenty camp sites available . 4x4 onto the beach after you get a permit costs about $20 then you got 13ks of beach to play on . fish high tide buggy low tide be good to have some fellow kiters cheers to all ernie Quote
jdhot Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 Hey Ernie, Sounds like a good idea, lets hope the weather and tides are in tune, do me a favour if you can remember and make a post closer to the time just to remind me, but I'm keen. We might even see Troy up there, he'll be closer by then and a few others Johnno Quote
