Only problem now is lack of confidence as not been on the ATB for a number of years. I wasn't all that good before as I kept stopping and could not seem to catch the wind enough, maybe some expert advice from someone who knows. See you soon. Jeff Quote

jtshort42 Posted June 5, 2010 Report Posted June 5, 2010 Hi, I will be down the beach this week with the old landboard and dated kites to get into the swing of things again however, I would love to get on the sea. The only problem being is, I have been doing some research on the internet and it looks a minefield and also expensive. Can anyone offer any advice please as to were I should start. Thanks in advance. Jeff Quote
yorkierob Posted June 5, 2010 Report Posted June 5, 2010 your startin in the right place Jeff dude Quote
Bobby Posted June 6, 2010 Report Posted June 6, 2010 Cheers for the get well wishes, hoping the Summer doesn't escape before I get back in. @bigjon - owch dude, yep I keep telling myself it could have been a leg bone. Trying to get the beemers wheels through that sand pit of an entrance is hard enough, but in an Ironside trolley it'd be frikken impossible. @william - tell your mum it was a freakin' gust in a million that pulled me over, nowt ever seen before at Ainsdale and probably never will again. Better still just don't tell her. @jeff - Kite and harness, a board and a rubber suit. What kites do you fly? Arcs with that landboard? Go secondhand on a decent board - (depends on your size) but go biggish on the size 132cm+ and wide 42cm+. Suppose folks will say get lessons and it's a wise move I don't disagree, but lots self teach themselves. Money was way too tight with me when I learnt with our kids at uni and I stuck to the lagoons and bashed away with seasoned surfers pointing out my mistakes. Go for it Jeff, you'll love it, that first run is a complete rush, like sex cept you're doing it at 100mph. A complete wet dream Sunday afternoon looks perfecto, you lucky lucky people . Quote
jtshort42 Posted June 6, 2010 Report Posted June 6, 2010 Hi, Thanks Bobby, hope you get well soon. I currently have a beamer 7m, flexi 4m blade II, 3 m firebee and little ol 2.m beamer II, nothing depower or ARC like hence my concerns over budget. What kite is a good starter size, I have been looking at the best range, what do you think? Cheers Quote
Bobby Posted June 6, 2010 Report Posted June 6, 2010 If you've never flown a depower Jeff it's going to be a bit of a learning curve dude. To be real honest I think you're going to find flying a depower a breeze after a 4m blade - my first kite was a 4.9 mk2 blade and that was an awesome foil - spent many a happy hour afterwork just twirling that beautiful blue kite round the beach. As for Best LEIs, well I've tried them but didn't like them - but there's lots down there who fly them and love them. People say get to try different brands before you lay the money down but thats easier said than done. If you've never flown an LEI then how the heck do you know what feels right!? Lots of hype and loads of bollacks talked but you probably won't know what suits your style till you're in the game 12 months or so. As soon as I'm back in the seat Jeff you're more than welcome to meet up and try my Ozone Instincts. Don't know how much you know about pump up kites but you could look over them and maybe get to learn a bit about them. They're very safe (> and simple pimple to operate - lots of schools use them to teach on. If you do jump in and bag a Best bargain drop us a PM if you want to meet up - can't promise to one handedly jump on your bar if you get into trouble but I can giggle . Quote
PaulLaurie Posted June 7, 2010 Report Posted June 7, 2010 (edited) Jeff, Depower is a breeze compared to the non-depower stuff in your bag. I moved over (land only so far) to depower and loved it. Maybe have a go at a couple of land depower jobs just to get used to the bar first. You're certainly welcome to try mine but I'm not down as often as I'd like nowadays. I used to have a 3m firebee too, my first power kite and loved it at first as had no comparison but nasty evil devils once you got into blades etc Once you move into depower it's another step change for the better in my opinion. Have fun Edited June 7, 2010 by Paul&Laurie Quote
Bobby Posted June 7, 2010 Report Posted June 7, 2010 Stuff to tempt you landcrabs into the water. Some Super Sunday snaps from Dan - link; http://forum.kitecrowd.com/kitesurfing/new-2010-anisdale-thread-176617-22.html#post2178352 Quote
williamjames555 Posted June 7, 2010 Report Posted June 7, 2010 i just got my first depower/lei had one go so far and found it pritty easy to grasp the onlt thing i had trouble with was that u have to power the kite to stear it and trying to find a comfortable possion to sit on and quite hard and rather scary as a first but after i finaly let tom let go of my harnes felt quite comfortable with it and was doing little jumps supper easy the he had to put me down by taking the kite (unhucked) and doing bigger jump ;'( Quote
