It will be great to go for a 15k Cruz up the beach to the granites.

Also don't forget the big salt lake just over the other side of the main road, dukey was giving it a bash this year get the right wind and some of you will clock up the century.

Sounds great, will have to get my family interesting in this one early.

How far away is the road from the beach camping spot for those of us that don't have 4WDs?

Camping out, I know Zachary will love that part, no to mention the kiting.

Hi Norm 2 wheel drive cars access is not a problem its off the dirt track and onto the beach then about a k up the beach.

The only soft spot is really just on the edge where we park and camp.

In the photo there was comodores and others there.

Actually last year we got towed back 14 ks on the beach by a 2 wheel drive vehicle on one of the days

If you don't mind getting sand through everything.... and I do mean everything  , its a simple task to just stay on the beach, but for those that like to get away from the sand when they sleep, I would highly reccommend the caravan park. Quite a number of those that camped on the beach this year will be in the caravan park next year. :D

If the wind is consistant like this year was it should be a great trip. The turnoff to the beach is about 2k north of Kingston, then a k of gravel road and then onto a never ending beach, until you hit the Murray mouth at Goolwa anyway.

And if the wind is not in a favorable direction for the beach, there is lake Nadzeb. This one is 10km north of Kingston and is a salt/clay base which is very flat. The area is quite huge, and usually mostly dry at this time of year, rock hard around the edge, and spongey in the middle. This year we were getting consistant tandem buggy runs of 75km/h + which is great for giving family members a taste of our little sport :friends:

I would recommend this trip to anyone, experience not necesary, I have had beginners on this trip before.

See ya'll there

P.S. It does have dunes but too much salt bush to buggy on, so bigfoots not required for this trip.

Would this ere Kingston meet be appropriate for the whole family?

There I was skirting around the subject and my better half says "Why don't we all go??"

So after picking up my jaw from the floor, I'm here with a green light GO!

May have to check out the camp site?

Cheers

Hi Adriane

Yes it is a good family weekend, we all had a blast last year, if you don't mind sand that's everywhere, then the beach is the place to stay, if you need a bit of a break from the sand then camping at the kingston caravan park, they have camp sites and cabins.

Still not sure about date but will probably be discussed to see what people would prefer.

Ok spoke to a few people today, it looks like a lot of people are for the Date range A:

Saturday 22nd January

Sunday 23rd January

Monday 24th January

Tuesday 25th January

Wednesday 26 January (Australia Day)

That way some that want to go into the fishing comp can, most of the fisherman pack up and leave the beach at lunch time sunday.

they normally leave nice spare logs around to for a camp BBQ

That will give us the rest of the time to go kiting.

Any other preferences ??

Wow - looks like 2011 might be the biggest Kingston trip ever - well done Terry for advanced planning.

AKFA have been going down there since 2002 and I haven't missed one yet, so I will be busting everything to be there.

As the pics above show, the venues are world class, and from my experience, the sea breeze is like clockwork. We have never been disappointed by the wind down there, which is not bad for 9 years running.

Also for anyone interested in dunes, there are opportunities within an hour's drive - near Beachport to the SE and back along the Coorong near Chinaman's Well and 42 Mile Crossing.

Its certainly a family event - there were about 10 kids this year - it was my 4-year-old's first camping experience and she loved it. Keeps asking when we are going camping again with our beach friends.

The adult activities (fireworks and substance abuse) start when the kids flake out just after sunset.

I'm there. I guess if I was going to stay at the caravan park I'd need to book well in advance?

edit: and while I think of it, what's the car traffic like on the beach? Do you normally pull over a bit downwind and hope they get the pic and go upwind of you?
