So watching TMF tonight i was reminded of a great album and thought why not start a music related thread as i think it's interesting to see other people's music tastes. So... what I'm after is one album wonders: bands/singers that released one awesome album and then disappeared. Mine would be the New Radicals, with "Maybe you've been brainwashed too". Perfect indie pop. What's yours???

no restrictions. you want to go to old hunstanton beach for landboarding. it's a decent size beach so you should be able to find somewhere out of the way of the general public. It's our last remaining unrestricted beach in that area so we tend to walk a little but as we're keen not to make a nuisance of ourselves. But enjoy.... if I wasn't at a wedding I'd be there myself.

Simple question about insurance. Yes or no will do.
jonsale replied to Filthy's topic in General Kiting
now i too was a little dubious and have been messed around by the bbc: and indeed was questioning whether i was actually insured or not however, travelling to the US on Sunday we hoped to do a little kitesurfing and remembered that we had to inform them that we were, so i dropped them an email i got one back within a couple of days saying i was right in doing so and thanks for letting them know. i then got one the following day from the pksf saying much the same. i know it's not the answer you were looking for, but it does seem to indicate that if you've paid your money, you're insured. jon -
there's a few good beaches round there. hardelot is good; le touquet will be too busy, there's also berck which hosts an annual kite festival, and slightly smaller is stella-plage all good places and worth a visit

Your favourite tipple, music, and what car do you have?
jonsale replied to KiteKat's topic in The Lounge
drink varies, but vanilla absolut and coke, raspberry stolichnaya and soda or grapefruit danska and tonic are all firm favourites listen anything with a tune but currently bloc party which is one of the most exciting, raw albums of the last year, and magic numbers, which is just damn tuneful drive a fairly dull honda civic mostly, but as the missus has it at the mo i'm driving her 1983 vw golf: just 30k miles on the clock, and half of hunstanton beach on the seat -
Received this letter from ofcom this morning: Dear Mr. Sale Casualty 23rd July, 8:20pm Thank you for your complaint. We have noted your concerns about the handling of one of the storylines in the above programme. Upon receiving your complaint, I have viewed this particular episode with your comments in mind although I should say now that we do not feel a breach of our codes has occured on this occasion. Let me explain why. Firstly, I should explain that the responsibility for the production of programmes lies with the individual broadcasters. They must ensure, however, that their output complies with our Broadcasting Code which sets out standards on a range of issues including violence, language and inaccuracy. We also require broadcasters to avoid showing material that could give rise to widespread offence whilst taking into account freedom of expression. Provided these guidelines are followed, broadcasters have full editorial control over their programmes. When assessing whether a programme is in breach of our guidelines we are mindful of the context, scheduling and audience expectation. Casualty has run for several years and the format of the drama is widely known by the vast majority of viewers. We therefore consider the accident that occured at the beginning of the episode to be in keeping with it's usual codes and as such would not have exceeded audience expectations. In terms of realism, our codes recognise that in order to appeal to viewers, events or characters in television drama are often exaggerated and not necessarily a accurate representation of everyday life. We acknowledge that, in reality, the result of the accident involving the landboarder may have been highly unlikely but as a plot forwarding device, was a necessary part of the story. Turning to your concerns about the portrayal of landboarders as irresponsible thrill seekers, we do not believe the programme sought to give out this impression. Indeed, it was clear that from the outset the accident was caused by a boy running directly in the path of the landboarder rather than the reckless behaviour of the landboarder himself. The victim's sister later accused him of being careless and selfish but this irrational statement was more of a comment on her state of mind which, under the circumstances was being severely tested. We recognise that our position will dissapoint you, but given the context, we have no grounds for formal intervention in this instance. You may however wish to contact the broadcaster to raise this issue if you have not already done so. Yours sincerely, Ofcom Contact Centre

I've got to echo previous comments here... we have to complain to everyone! all the BBC will do is issue an apology on their website, PLEASE report them to ofcom and the bsc: but please be sensible with your complaint - e.g. no swearing; threats etc. bsc and ofcom are the only way we'll get an apology on tv. thanks

"If you consider that a specific television or radio programme was harmful, offensive, misleading, or raised an issue of impartiality, accuracy or contained inappropriate commercial activities please contact the Ofcom Contact Centre. We will review the matter and let you know the outcome." http://www.ofcom.org.uk/advice/contact/tv_radio_other It may be a good idea to direct this to ofcom as well, using the information above. Please add me (Jon Sale) and the other half (Cat Snow) to the list.

thanks for the advice. plumped for the 4.9 as being funded by both me and the missus. but thanks again (and sorry for sparking such a debate!) just waiting for the postman tomorrow!!!!!

I've a few kites now, but nothing that really gives me much height when jumping. The obvious choice would seem to be a 4.9m blade. Are there any other kites that fly and have lift like the 4.9m blade? Thanks

travel north up the coast to hunstanton or brancaster... but see the sticky in the "buggying" thread about brancaster as it's members only so you'll need to check you can get a day membership. hunstanton is a good size and normally plenty of people. nearer to yarmouth is "hemsby" but i have never attempted buggying there, seems choosy depending on wind direction and sand is not as hard but if you can dodge the sea debris you may be ok. but hunny/brancaster would be better plus hemsby is a bit of a dump

UK Starting a uni kite sport club?
jonsale replied to DJ Ever Ready's topic in London & South East England
i used to go to UniS as it was unaffectionately known. do you fly on campus? ever had a buggy clamped by security? :D :D -
i'll try again on me own first but when i've mastered the basics it'd be great to meet up and get some pointers. thanks for the offer, it's appreciated.

ahem. cheers folks. (ps bbc 6849. hopefully at 0.003mph (my current top speed) i won't need it!)

no real offence meant, i just found the above posts a little abrupt/patronising. i have always treated more experienced kiters with the upmost of respect, if anyone's ever seen me trawl for half a mile down hunstanton beach with half a ton of equipment on my back just so i don't get in anyone's way would vouch for. However, i won't delete the post as i think other's responses are a great way to judge someone's character. To re-iterate my TWO replies above, thanks to everyone for the help. jon

Christ almighty, get off you high horses folks! Read the thread again you might get the sarcastic nature of it... I can barely get 150m down the beach, let alone buggy to six miles along it. I've lived in Norfolk a great deal of my life and I'm not about to tear through a nature reserve in the name of fun. Maybe one day I'll be brave enough to go to Brancaster, when I don't **** off others there. I thought the community was supposed to be quite supportive? Maybe not. Ride safely jon

so yes... doing something really simple really wrong! i shall try again next kiting day with hopefully more luck

so the wind was going "across" the beach, not from the land or from the sea but across. so i should be sort of "zig zagging" up and down the beach? (thank you btw)

So... out to Hunstanton again today, nice wind speed, got to go buggying again... but still a small problem. I can go one way no problems, making long distance safari to Brancaster no problem, but i'm getting slightly miffed with walking my buggy back with my tail between my legs to get back to where I started! What am I doing wrong? Is it something as simple as facing the wrong way? I've read the buggying guide in the flexifoil book, but it doesn't seem to make much sense. I'm thinking it could be as simple as me facing the wrong way. Anybody got any tips or absolutely foolproof "how-to" guides to buggying out there as It wouldn't half be more fun to go back the way I came Cheers people jon
