Thanks 5n1tch, appreciate the reply! I'm not holding much hope, I'm going to Geilo this year just before Christmas. Will have my wife and kids in tow, it's not an all out snowkite trip. Mid December, so not much daylight, and probably not that much snow. Let alone wind. That Havdalshovda looks promising if I do get lucky. Hardangervidda looks the nuts. Be nice to do that one day!!!
-
Anyone know if it's possible to kite anywhere in Geilo itself? I've seen Hardangarvidda but I won't have a car to get there.

Lol I've seen ONE twinskin on the water. 10 years ago in Egypt. All the LEI guys were pointing at it, thought it was a UFO

Hahaha yes Mick I know, I know. Wrong tool for the job and all that! But I do love my arcs, and I'm familiar with them. Carl tut Bullet does ok on water with his Chargers Of course I will probably end up with LEIs, I gotta try an air mattress on water at least once though! Thing with getting a quiver of blowups is realistically I probably won't get out to the water that much so it would be nice to just use my existing kit if I'm not able to trek over to the coast regularly. Interested to hear about this good place....

Yeah getting out at the same place I got in...das what I meant. Maybe I should have said holding my ground. I'll try and steer clear of the abuse for now thanks. I'll get enough of that when I rock up with a Peter Lynn twinskin air mattress
-
Cheers Mick, I'll certainly try and get down there over the next few weeks. Just need a few solid hours on flattish water and I reckon I should be holding my own. I look forward to meeting you in person sometime soon!

I got back from Fuerteventura last week, and am proud to say I can (almost) kitesurf. A bit. I was going to take lessons at Hunstanton earlier this year but a knee injury scuppered that. So on the family holiday to Fuerte I managed to sneak off to Cotillo and Corralejo for some lessons. First did a refresher on the beach for a couple of hours as I've not flown an LEI in like 8 years. Just been buggying with depower foils. No problem there, "near perfect" kite control from the instructor apparently, ready for water next lesson... Next lesson, into water at El Cotillo lagoon. The wind was quite light so I was on a 15m. Only 4 other kites on water. First attempt at waterstart, and I'm up!! Rode for a little way, out of control and ar5e out hunched over like a noob, but riding. Stopped, sunk, went back the other way. Not bad if I do say so myself. Did this a few times, ended up way downwind. Walk back and repeat. But then...all of a sudden there were like 30 kites on this little lagoon. My instructor had already said if you cross lines with another kite, don't wait, bin the chicken loop. So yes, I touched lines with another kite. Probably my fault. But I'm a beginner, right? Give me a wide berth? No. So I ditched the kite. Luckily the kites didn't tangle and mine dropped away. But in the meantime the other guy had come off his board. I retrieved his board for him while the instructor sorted out my downed kite. He body drags over, I hold my hand up, apologise, and send him his board. He proceeds to launch a French accented torrent of abuse. Charming I thought. Never a beginner yourself mate? To55er. So a bit dejected, I retired for the day. Next day was a lesson from a boat, out in deep water. Very deep water, I could barely see land. I won't lie, I was shltting myself. And I'm first up as I can already water start. Got myself ready. Instructor's assistant straps a board leash to my harness. A normal leash, not a reel. Hold on, I thought these were a No No? But they said I need it here in deep water with the swell. So off I go. Up first time. And very quickly out of control. I know what to do in my head but my body is tense and won't relax back against the kite, and I'm not edging. Getting really fast. Fall off. Big splash, kite down. No big deal, I get it relaunched. Haven't given the board a second thought, it's on a leash right? Wrong. I look around and it's nowhere to be seen. And nor is the boat. He's off pumping up the next guys kite. Oh dear. What do I do? I spent a few minutes sorting the kite when I crashed. Board is long gone. I body drag aimlessly left and right a few times, trying to stay upwind but have no idea if my technique is working. Needless to say I didn't happen across my board. Boat returns some 20-30 minutes later. "Where's the board? " the instructor asks. Do you really think I'd be bobbing up and down here like a plank if I knew that? They haul me into the boat, we go off looking for the board. But to no avail. Oh dear. I feel bad, I know what boards cost. I did make some progress on my next attempt with another board. Managed to relax a bit and get some edging going to control my speed. I had a good few runs and even managed one transition without sinking, I was stoked about that! Final lesson was in Corralejo Flag Beach, but just as I'm about to get into the water the wind just stopped, and never returned. Dang. So I didn't leave the Island a kitesurfer, but man it feels like I'm getting close. And what an awesome feeling it is to ride on water!! Now I'm back I hope to carry on. Land locked in Hertfordshire and Hunstanton will probably be my nearest spot. Was going to get a wet (dry?) suit and a board and crack on but I'll probably do a lesson or two with a school down there first. Until I can at least stay upwind. So if you're in Hunny and spot a noob struggling, give a fella some space eh?

flydad, that's a great offer, thanks for that, I may well take you up on it...! Your memory is better than mine, I can't remember what I had for breakfast. And your measuring is clearly better than my 75-76mm, very precise!! I've just been out to a scrapyard and managed to get a length of stainless tube, 21mm internal diameter, 2mm thick. I don't know anyone with a way to accurately cut it though, going to have a crack at cutting it to size with a hacksaw. I don't fancy my chances of getting it bang on square though. Or bang on 75.8mm!! I did see from my post on PKF that Powerkiteshop have spacers: Peter Lynn Buggy Wheel Spacers Standard Plastic Stainless Steel Racing 12mm 15mm 20mm Power Kite Shop UK Equipment Powerkiteshop The ones they advertise for asymmetric bigfoots are 77mm. They are a tiny bit over 75.8mm but I guess they must be the ones for my wheels. Would 1-2mm too long be an issue? I'll see how I get on, I'll give you a shout if I'm still spacerless in 3 weeks and want to take you up on your generous offer. Thanks again!
-
Thanks for the inspiration Mick. The exhaust on my neighbours scooter looks perfect, I might lop a bit off with my hacksaw tonight. It'll make it sound better anyway. Everyone's a winner!
-
My wheels are missing bearing spacers. Does anyone know where I can get some for asymmetric bigfoots? I'm not exactly sure what the rims are. I thought they were CadKat but I went to their website and the spacers they list are 66mm. I measured what I need as best I could and it looks like I need 75 maybe 76mm. Can anyone help?

I am a few thousand miles away in the UK. Don't see many Nasa Stars in this neck of the woods! I fly Peter Lynn arcs, a Flysurfer Peak, and also Rev stunt kites. Be great to win this baby and add it to the arsenal!!

Quality!!!!! Man the lettering on that looks top notch. You're proper Pro dude!!

Knebworth Park charge summat like a tenner to get into the grounds! And it's all hilly in there. But, there may well be somewhere out that way somewhere in the sticks towards Langley. If you do ever want a buggy when you're down you're welcome to come and grab mine, it fits in the back of a people carrier without breaking it down. I even fixed the wobbly headstock (duh, tighten the bolt!!).
-
And there was me thinking it was my general lack of skills which cause me so much grief in that field! To be fair it can sometimes be OKish on a NE or S-SW wind, but that's OKish in the loosest sense of the word. I've all but given up trying to learn to board there, it can be alright in a buggy where you're not in danger of getting yanked off the board. Give me a shout if you're going over during any lunchtimes, I'll come and cheer you on! And of course you're welcome to a spin on my Peak if you want to see how that is with the board!!
-
Went to take the headstock off and found the bolt was a little loose. Tightened up and the play has gone, happy days!! (and yes I can still steer!) Thanks for the help though

Anyone know where I can get a set? Looks like 38 x 16 according to PL site but I don't know if that's correct...?
-
Is this place suitable for a beginner?
-
Wayaye man bonnie lad! My mam is from Whitley Bay I'm no spring chicken. Wish I had taken it up earlier as I don't bounce now and it takes forever for the knocks to heal!!
-
Will do boss, thanks!

What's the crack at Stopsley these days? Last time I was there a few months back the car park was blocked off. Are there signs up saying no traction kiting?

I've got a week in Norfolk with the family in April and was going to lob my landboard in and maybe pop along to Brancaster. Sounds like that's a No-No? Is there anywhere on the Norfolk coast good for landboarding? (And it's Allowed!) ??? (I'm staying in Wells)
