  2. Will be at Driftwood from the 5th to the 12th of April
  3. This one I might be able to get to Arboretum Kite Fest - National Arboretum (act.gov.au) BobM
  4. I got a set of barrows from my local tyre shop. Take the rims with you and see what they say - it can't hurt to ask
  5. When you say SW Victoria, where abouts are you? I am driving from Canberra to Kingston SE on the 19/20 of this month (there is a buggy meeting on) I'll be going through Camperdown, Port Campbell, Warrnambool and Mt Gambier
  6. I just received an invitation to this event. Some others here might be in town for it I will be away in Kingston S.E. in S.A. with the other buggy people Kite Festival – Canberra – Free Entry @ 10:00 am – 22/01/2023 – Get My Tickets
  7. My boss at work is giving me a hard time about accumulating too much annual leave. So in an effort to reduce the balance by even a couple of days, I am wondering if there will be a meeting this year over the Melbourne Cup Weekend. With the Cup being run on the 1st of November, I am assuming the weekend before plus the Monday 31st of October would be the dates for anything to happen What does everyone else think? BobM

  9. Narracorte caves for fossils?
  10. This is primarily a post to let a new buggier and his family know about the annual get together. For me, the key date is Australia Day on the 26th of January, and I plan around that Date. In 2023 it falls on a Thursday. The Adelaide Kite Flyers put on a fantastic display of large kites and it is always worth viewing. There is a congregation of kiters, buggiers, blow-carters, kite-boarder, kite surfers and families at the Kingston Caravan Park in the days/weeks leading up to the 26th, and some stay on afterwards as well. As a buggier, I look forward to getting out on the (hopefully) dry lake bed and letting rip on the flat surface. It all depends on the wind, the weather and the dryness of the surface. If things aren't right, there is always the beach to use too. What else is there to do (I know that HD1P has a 10/11 YO son and a 12/13 YO daughter to entertain)? Tour the Cape Jaffa Lighthouse Visit the local wineries Swim in the ocean - there might even be dolphins I like to roller skate on the footpaths along the foreshore (bring your outdoor wheels) There is a skate park nearby (sign says no roller blades, but doesn't mention Quads) Does anyone else have suggestions to keep the kids entertained? See you all in January BpbM
  11. Handles or bar? Both sets of equipment have a safety mechanism where you can completely lose all power from the kite. The bar will have a "quick release" of the power lines and the kite will behave like a plastic bag in the wind. Handles will have "kite killers". In either case, the first thing you should do is to become familiar with the safety! Then you can fly with the confidence that you can easily get out out of any situation. And practice using the safety when you can, so that your confidence in the equipment grows. BobM
  12. I'll be visiting Tweed Heads/Kingscliff on the 12/13 of March. I might be able to say G'day on the Saturday, but I have family event on the Sunday
  13. Speaking of which, I assume that nothing is happening this year? I have a trip to Yeppoon pencilled in for 2023 :-)
  14. I got mine from BrisKites many years ago, but they might be worth a phone call https://www.briskites.com.au/libre-deluxe-harness-medium
  15. One less buggier in Canberra (not that I get out that much these days) I'm glad you'll still be around with your stunt kite
  16. Have a chat to the people at BrisKites. They used to be into buggying and might know if anyone is still involved in the area. BobM
  17. Geez Trevor, We will be sorry to see you leave this great past-time. I have enjoyed our (very) occasional meetups both here in Canberra and at the coast (and Kingston). All the best for the future, and who knows, when I retire myself in a few year's time I might bump into you somewhere in Canberra Cheers BobM
  18. If the wind is from the NE, try Currarong NSW 2540 which is just south of Nowra and has a NE aspect. Post the trip in the Events/NSW and see if anyone is still out there and wants to join in, JDHot looks in occasionally
  19. Not too bad I am hoping to drive down to Kingston S.E. SA for the Australia Day meetup there, but the SA government is still being tight with its border crossings. I've nearly given up flying in Canberra as the winds are just too fickle. There sure has been a lot of development and changes at Amaroo since I was there last.
  20. Wow, Which oval was this filmed at? I too haven't been out for a while. I want to take some pictures of Lake George with the water lapping the road, just to contrast the dry Lake bed from a couple of years ago Cheers BobM
  21. This web site has a few zebra stipes with red http://libre.de/?q=en/node/265
  22. Tanilba Bay? is that near Port Stephens? I wouldn't mind a weekend at Birubi Beach again BobM
