Now that I live in the Canterbury region of New Zealand with close proximity to the snow country (1.5 to 2 hrs), my son and I would like to extend our land (landboards) and water (kite surfing) activities into the snow. Neither one of us have ever skied nor snow boarder before, but talking to people at work that snow board, reckon it will not take long for us to get the knack of it, considering our landboard, kite surfing and skate board experience. So I have some questions and seek advice to get off on the right foot ( well I'm standard and my son is goofy so go figure). First off is it feasible to combine snowboarding and kiting in the snow country near the Ca…

Great footage. I think this guy is the drone pilot and editor but not sure. All of his videos are great. His channel is worth a look.

So we havn't had a lot of actual "winter" this winter in Denmark, but for the last couple of week it's been really cold - not enough snow to be used for anything (Other than building snowmen) and very little wind. But this friday we actually got a bit of wind - and with the Fjord fronzen solid for a good few hundred meters out (Where it's shallow) we got out to have a chillout snowkite session. Man I can't wait to be at this years Red Bull Ragnarok in norway! Here's a small edit of us chilling in 5 m/s (~10 knots) - I was on my 15 meter Speed 4 Lotus and my mate was on a Starkite 9 meter. Even if I'm just a novice snowkiter I managed to reach a m…

Got my first time in the skis and kite today. not being a skier, it was hard work. First, I find dealing with putting the boots on and my feet in the skis a true pain in the butt. my bindings are not click in type. Second, I need better apparel (it was damn cold today). Third, I'm very glad I got snow blades instead of long downhill skis (it made things much easier than they could have been). fourth, I need to learn how to wax these skis, I think they are due. All in all, it was a successful day. I was able to make transitions and stay upwind so I can't complain. Winds were 15 with gusts in mid 20's. I wanted to use the peak 6 but just didn't have the guts with my poor…

Got in some ultra-low-wind snowkiting yesterday about 10 minutes from my house in the Wasatch mountains of Utah (site of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games). I had somewhat unsuccessful results with the 12m Peak2 at first and then launched my Big Lady next (12.5m NS3). By projected area this is quite a bit larger a kite and it turned out to be just enough kite to squeak out a session. I'm calling this video "On Safari" due to my ventures through the tall grass. Got to do what you got to do! On the drive home I saw some other kites up in the air and ended up finding a new site! Bonus video in back. Hope you enjoy this as you slide on into summer down under.

As it's stinking hot and dry in Victoria atm, it sort of feels good to be watching snow kite videos! This one's from Tim Raiman on his first snowkiting trip. And for a first snowkite, I'd have to say he's done a terrific job!

This one's a few years old now but it's still a bit of a spectacle. Note the single skin Paraskiflex kites in the mix too.

This is @Hardwater Kiter having some fun in fairly windy conditions. You've got a brilliant playground there, Chris.

We have had some outstanding snow and wind in the past several days in the Wasatch Mountains near Salt Lake City, UT (2002 Winter Olympic site). Much to my delight I've found that the NS3s make for outstanding Snowkite engines. Their single skin design easily sheds the snow you pile on it and their 3-line simplicity is a real crowd pleaser, making for minimal times I need to take off my gloves to swap kites, unpack, pack, etc. These are probably the last kites you would want for boosting, but for me that is a distinct plus as I don't want to get lifted, rather just pulled along. Yesterday the wind was howling and I slung the 4m up on 20m lines hooked in. Pulled lik…

As the title of this thread says, there can only be one first time for snowkiting or any other kiting event. I thought it would be fun to hear about folk's first time. Was it special? Memorable is some certain way? Please have at it.I had my first long awaited snowkiting session yesterday. Being new to the mobile aspects of power kiting this year I've been looking forward to this day all year. We finally have (barely) enough snow to pull off a session on grass fields and I had the combination of a free weekend afternoon and some decent light winds (sub 10 mph); perfect for my first go.All I can say is WOW! As you can see in the video attached here I slung up Session Saver…

Temps are dropping quickly in the Wasatch and I'm hopeful that I'll soon be hanging up my buggy for the winter.... to start snowkiting! This is my first year enjoying mobile traction kiting. The only harness I've ever used is the PL Divine (size M). My Divine use has been exclusively with my seat meat planted solidly in my BigFoot buggy. The PL website bills the Divine harness as being designed with comfort and performance in mind for buggying. For snowkiting I need a slightly larger harness to fit over winter gear so I'm going to need a second one. I've been pleased with my Divine harness so at first blush I'm leaning towards the PL Radical harness (size L).I'd love some …
