I have seen 80+ mph recorded on a GPS before now.

Not convinced they are totaly reliable for maximum speeds.

GPS is a position fixing device...if they get a little bit of positional error, then the next update corrects this you will get spurious peaks in velocity

Most other sports speed records are over standing 1/4 mile in both directions etc etc....now that would be a more realistic test;) (or a record of the track log as c_quad_squad suggests)

my best speed is ~40 (sticking behind Gary_kf on a landboard:eek: )

Interesting observation re the GPS reading as my youngest posted an incredible speed whilst running... I'm not sure whether he was holding the GPS at the time but I'm sure that movement of the GPS (othere than him just running) gave a spurious reading... is this the positional error you are talking about??

Last time I tried to get on (some months back) I think my password died or something. I should get new password.

lol...should definitely have one board for 'race' buggies & one for normal ...I mean non-race/freestyle/standard...;)

It will be difficult to classify all the buggies.

My whole set up from kites to buggy for example is to be able to run the dunes. Speed is unimportant to me. I'm on the list but a long way down as I record everything on every trip out including max. speed.

How can you classify some of the home made buggies?

Another big influencer on the speed is the surface.

Even with the best race buggy & racekites, zapping along on our flat sabkhas is not that conducive to running at high speed.

What kind of speeds can you get on grass I wonder?

I like the speed record list and think it will goad a lot of people into seeing exactly what they can do.

Mass buggy builders may build buggies to show their product on the top of the list. It would be good advertising for say Libre or Flexi to show that top speed merchants used their buggy.

For those dedicated to higher speed it will provide challenges to use the best speed kite & buggy in the optimum wind conditions on the flatest, hardest surface they can get on.

This list is laying down the gauntlet to all speed aspirants who want to be on top. The high speed adrenalin buzz is on us now thanks to Popeyetherwelder and Buggybags initiative.

my list is updated daily or as new pbs come in, buggybags is in the process of revamping his speed page, and is about halfway through, I had a preview last night and it looks very good with all the finer details on like kite, buggy, wind speed, surface conditions etc etc....

Can you set one up for speed runs going Backwards! :D  :p

I'll put Richy Stones straight at the top of that one.. wind was 45mph ish he was backwards on a rather largish phantom one handed waving at the racers he passed ... and I laughed my tits off as well it was sooo funny:D

My top speed is over 40 I think about 43mph and a bit forwards that is..

Of course I've got no evidence of that though so you'll have to race me to find out :p

F

well Ive sent my form in :)

32mph oooooooooh, ok its not that fast compared but it is only my second time, and if it makes you feel better I did 2 walks of shame, got obe'd and dunked through the water. Oh and it was cold

But I enjoyed it all:D

Speed is a great adrenalin producer but you hit the nail on the head when your wrote:

"I enjoyed it all"

That's what it's all about.
