Hope for the best for him, and hope he makes a full recovery. Glad that the Mail spoke to the BKSA before writing this.

Yeah, it's an extraordinarily factual and researched article.

Very best wishes to whoever it it.

It does sound quite a bad accident.

Any one know or see what happened?

is he new to kites? We have all done it where we have tried to recover the kite before we even think to release our safety. There's always going to be some one who will say you should know but in the heat of the moment. I think we all will try to save a kite as a kite out of control in the public areas is even worse. But some one said he hit a sign first and then a building. Best wishes to him, afterall all he wanted to do is some sport.

I have no idea of the area down there but I understand it gets very busy down there but I don't think he was in the normal place where others are. I am sure more will unfold as it comes out what happened.

From what i could glean from people who were there the guy was on the same sized kite as other riders (12m) strong gust came in and caught him out whilst on the beach. Not in the harbour but on the beach side of shore road where there is between 15-50m of beach depending on state of tide. If you get caught out here you won't have too much time to react. Sounds like he's been very unfortunate and i wish him a full recovery.

Reading about this accident has made me decided I am definitely going to invest in a helmet. I have only ever seen one guy in a helmet at my local spot, he was experienced and looked pretty cool! I however look crap regardless of having a helmet or not :-) Does anyone else on this forum wear a helmet?

Don't know if one would have made a difference in the case of this accident of course :-(

Always have done, kiting, snowboarding, wakeboarding and skating. My gath hemlet is old and battered and has several fin gashes in it so i know it's saved my nut on a couple of occasions. Helmets are good so long as they are viewed as an extra precaution and not i've got a helmet on so i'll be fine. It is however a personal choice i feel and not one to be imposed.

Wish him a speedy recovery. Does anyone on here know him? How is he now?

I've never flown at Poole, but from what I've heard about the close proximity to the road and it being a popular spot it always sounded like an accident like this was inevitable. However, I hope this accident doesn't cause a ban or have other negative implications.

As posted on our local forum. There are some better looking helmets out there these days like the Berns and just stick a Go Pro on it and you look like a cool videographer.

I got a full face recently for mountain boarding. First time I wore it noticed a scratch down one side where I hit a log when I fell. Would have made a decent scar had it it not been for the helmet.

Sometimes but only so I can be a tripod.

Saying that on Saturday I don't know why but I wore it(minus gopro) when I was landboarding. Fell on my head, made my eyes go a bit funky so I'll definitely wear it from now on for land.

Got to say I have always worn a helmet, always. I learnt that a helmet is good when I tried land boarding. I got pulled round and banged my head on the ground real hard, Lucky I was wearing a cycle helmet. Not the right one but some thing rather than nothing. I was perfectly fine I was perfectly fine I was perfectly fine

I also have a boyancy aid as well.. Sailing one. Acts like an impact vest £19.99 from Decathlon. But your right not many people do wear helmets I think by me out of 10 riders 1 will be wearing a helmet. I also make a point of making sure it's on even when I am putting the kite in the air. I've seen riders put a kite up and then put their helmet on.. I don't get that part most dangerous is when your walking with the kite and lauching it.

The Helmet I use is the same as US Army use Pro tec B2

As luck would have it I was in Vans store in Portsmouth Gunwarf and they had them on clearance at £14.99 So I bought 2 one I dry one I can wear at that price you can't go wrong. I bought 2 before they noticed the price was wrong. But I think they do this every now and then on the basic model which is perfect for us.

I don't care if I look a knob as long as I have got it on..

So it really does sound like the guy was just really unlucky. Best wishes and speedy recovery for him.
