Last year I wanted a half sleeve so I found the sorta design I wanted, had it redrawn/modified and on it went. Was originally told would take 3-4 hours to complete in black/shading. 3 hours later he had only done the main picture and hasn't even started the inside of the arm! I'm going back for an hour at one point to have the kids names added in scrolls to finish it off so the main bits done but it still leaves the inside to do. I don't know if my arm is larger than what we had designed the picture to be or what but the original design for the inside would like shite. I've always liked the maori style tats so debating having that done on the inside but can't decide if it would look strange not having a full maori tat.

Anyone got a maori sleeve?

my design was origianlly part of a sleeve, i just wanted a particular bit of it so enlarged it and changed/added a few bits. first pic is when it was a couple of days old, other pics are taken now with a design i came across a while ago. shouldve printed on pink paper tbh but you get the idea.

Even though I wouldn't have one myself that looks like a very good tattoo, your tat artist is talented, I wouldn't rush him, after all this is for life !

Did you get a job and finish price or pay by the hour deal?

It would be good to get it finished early, but could they repeat the artistry involved in the original ink work?

Would like to see the finished product.

Good luck

Cheers fellas :)

£70 an hour lol that was a 3 hour session. Hopefully won't do that long again in one sitting, 2 hours is enough. Says adding the names would be another hour so will ask about the extra when I go back, still can't decide if it looks right as its 2 different styles.

Also wouldn't have the inside bit done till next winter... It ain't cheap, more importantly 'they' say not to take new tattoos out in the sun etc so will let this one settle as still scabbing a little in places and let it have it's first summer.

to me it looks like hard work, i'd probably strip it down, keep the mask and use the leaves as a transition between the two styles, keep a small amount of the banding and substitute the rest of the maori piece for some more taditional fillers to help the blend between the two. gut feeling though would be to go back to your original design and rework it as this maori design could quite easily ruin a good tattoo (imo). obviously i'm not a tattooist, so you'd be better off talking to one.

as for the sun.. yes 'they' do say keep it out of the sun, but as long as you're careful/sensible it should be ok. I had an arm band done three weeks before my summer hol last year, used sunblock and aftersun every day. No colour fade, I think it's just a guide to cover themselves.

that could work nicely if you can get the artist to blend the scull artwork with the maori. Under you arm is going to smart a lot, bare in mind that could add a bit of time to how long it will take to finish.

Keeping your tat out the sun as much as pos is always recommended even when its healed properly. I've got 2 tats that have been in the sun in recent times and the ink has faded in some places and spread in other.

the pic below was done nearly 15 years ago and took 8 sittings at 2 - 3 hours a time. Faded slightly and could do with touching up but i still think its a striking tat... other will say other wise ;)

going to smart a lot?! should that read hurt? LOL! tattoos are a very personal thing, yours still looks good even 15 years on, faded adds charector sometimes. i have a bulldog in colour on my shoulder that still looks ok with the colour but i dont see it often.

whats you other other one?

Nope, smart... You'll understand when it's being done ;)

If you want hurts a lot, tattoo down the spine hurts like hell. It's one place i'm not looking forward to having re-inked again. Kind of put me off if i'm honest :s

it's striking not only because of the colours and artwork but because it has captured perfectly a leopard eating a cadburys mini roll. i've been watching the david attenborough stuff for years, reckon i have about seen them all, and the closest i have come to seeing something like that was a badger eating a jammy dodger.
