Yeah, good call.

I'm currently trying to work out if I think I'll be able to manage a 1.8m wide trailer.

(and by the time you add wheel arches it probably will be more like 1.9)

Regulations require that a trailer be no more than 2.5m in width, so we're fine there :P

We have a pretty narrow driveway but I measured it tonight. 2.2m at the narrowest point, so we're fine there ;)

And I'm going to spend tomorrow riding about with a 1.9m length of wood strapped to my current trailer :good:

I'll report back again tomorrow.

What about swapping the bigfoots for some narrow 6 ply's for the tow? Although that does mean you have to pack two dirty big wheels somewhere..... I'm assuming you're not going to be towing the bigfoots on the road....although if you actually have the buggy on a trailer, you could just take the wheels off and not need to replace them with anything.....?

Yeah, the idea is to tow the BFs on the road. Beach racers have a Speed Index of "F" (meaning they are rated for 80km/h travel) and that's a big part of the reason I'm getting them. Ideally the tyres are meant to be capable of "Highway Speeds" but I'm hoping "Index F" will be sufficient. Swapping wheels over would be a possibility (I think). Currently I'm swapping axles as my "Highway Axle" has different wheel attachments (as I wasn't happy running plastic barrows on the road), but highway tyres on 3x8 Sysmics may well be a viable option. For now though I'm going to run with the "BeachRacers on the road" technique ;) Also, rather than loading the buggy onto a trailer the buggy will actually be the trailer its self, so unfortunately "wheels off" is not an option. Good suggestion though.

I've sent an email asking what the best way to order would be as I'm also after a couple of harness D-Rings (which aren't on the website) and a Griffin chicken loop which Griffin say they have an upgrade offer for.

Now for a couple of questions..... my original bolts (120mm) have about 5mm too much shaft. Do I get 100mm bolts or do I simply chuck 3 or 4 washers in the space??

Second question....the 12mm front axle seems a little wimpy (I was running 1" shaft with a 3/8th SS Bolt screwed in from either side) - is it worth the bother of getting some 20mm shaft and tapping some 3/8th threads in either side, or would only having 5mm of 'meat' either side of the tapped hole be worse off than having the std 12mm axle? (don't think there's enough room on the Vmax forks to enlarge the 12mm axle hole for a 20mm...)

I reckon the rear bolts are a matter of looks. The washers or spacers wouldn't hurt.

The front 20mm axle could be made with 10mm bolts each side as there is plenty of wall thickness.

When it is turned up get some 12mm shoulders (almost the width of the plates) machined onto each end to engage the 12mm holes in the fork to centre it.

Im sure the fork could be sprung open enough to fit it.

Just my 2 bobs worth. :D

Now there's a tricky idea (12mm shoulders) although I dare say an engineers would charge me a few bob for that. I could cheat and get a small bit of 12mm alloy tube about 3mm long and slip it over the 10mm bolt which would nearly do the same thing.... yep, I'll grab a couple of bits of 20mm shaft tomorrow and have at it with the drill and tap. Any hints for hitting the exact center of the shaft with a cheap drill press ?? (I usually get close, but no cigar!)

Hmmmm.

Most set squares have a 45 degree angle where the blade meets the stock.

Colour the end of the shaft with texta.

Put the 20mm on it's end in a vice and lay the square over the top just down fron the top edge. (With the stock and blade of the square down slightly from the top of the shaft)

Lay a small rule along the 45 degree line and scribe a line along the rule. Turn it on the shaft 90 degrees and scribe another line and there is your centre.

Centre punch it LIGHTLY and check it's centred. Now give it a whack if your happy and work your way up from a 3mm drill bit to 8.5mm or 11/32" which is the correct size to tap a M10 x 1.5 thread.

If you are using 3/8" UNC bolts only go to 8mm or 5/16".

Use some CRC or oil to help things along.

Taping the hole just be patient and back the tap out a 1/4 turn every half turn to break the chips of. You can even counter sink the hole for a couple of mm to get the tap started more easily. :)

Hey John I recommend getting the big-foot front end with the 20mm axle for your vmax. I'm glad I got it for mine the whole thing is much beefier and with the extra width there is a bit more clearance between the heels of your boots and the side walls of your tyres.

Depends on what the dollar is doing against the Euro at the time of purchase my guess $200 to $300 tops

found the photos, you can see it's more heavy duty, and lots of room to add bigger rubber if you get the hankering to hit the dunes.

Way, way back on page 4 of this thread BGKD was asking about fitting S1 forks to a Vmax. Not sure if we got a definitive answer but it may be an option, though the $200 - $300 estimate will fall short by $100

If your able to get away with an S2 fork you will just scrape in on the 200-300 range (after discount). Again only stainless S2 forks are listed on the webpage but they do atlease make mild S2's so if you sweet talk Jas enough you may even be able to swing a mild S2 fork ;).
