HOUSE Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 that didnt bother us last time lol Lol - very true Forecast is for lighter winds now. I shall still try and go unless it all goes pear shaped. I have my Raptor 6.5 now - has been well used but is in good nick. Just went on the playing field to set up the lines and gave it a try in virtually no wind. Flew like a dream and must have some grunt - should be great fun when the wind is blowing. !! Quote

Robocourier Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Looking at a day out on Sunday; first time on a beach. Looking at bringing my noob brother and only have Flexi buggies to play on. Any advice on axles/tyres? Only have one w/a and one set of midis above the standard set up. Is this going to be any good or is the sand too soft?? I've read the thread on where I'm supposed to fly but not sure on what I'm gonna get when I get on the beach!!! Thanks! Quote
mick Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Theres a lot of hard sand at low tide. At a very high tide therell be no buggying but Sundays low is 2.30 so its a good fun day if the rain stays away. Standard barrows are ok on the hard stuff. God willing I'll be there from 10 ish. White Toyota van on the Seal Centre car park. If the wind is ok it'll be good long runs. Hopefully see you there. Quote
Robocourier Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 (edited) Thanks for that! My bro only needs to get moving to have achieved something and get him smiling, but I need a bigger fix than that. I want the utopia of a steady sea breeze rather than the horror of inlands gusts that I've learned on. Can't wait. Pray for no rain. Hope to be there for late morning. mick Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Hopefully it'll be a good day. If the winds as promised it could see runs up to 40 mph for us 'little' buggyers. Quote
Robocourier Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 (edited) I've managed 36 here in Gustiville so 40 would be a new PB for me. Just need to make sure my bro gets his carcass out of bed early! Edited May 1, 2010 by Robocourier Quote
mick Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 It should take you about 2 and a half I would have thought. Same as me. I'll leave about 8 ish I reckon. It'll be too early to get on the beach maybe but its nice to be there. When you get there and you're all set up to go to the beach. Walk out the car park and go up the hill alongside the shop on the right. You won't have any real idea of the wind because of the dunes. Once up the hill you'lle feel the wind and see the sea. Get down to the beach and walk down to the wet sand line. Turn left and walk a bit, maybe 1 or 2 hundred mtres and set up just on the dry sand. You won't buggy across the soft stuff so it saves a lug back to the hard sand. Quote
Robocourier Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 (edited) Just a quick thanks for the friendliness of the peeps I met today. A bit of a change of scenery from my usual flying sites and my apologies for everyone I might have cut up, obstructed or caused to change course in my inexperience of flying on a beach. :o Can't say it was my best sesh ever after tackling soft sand, huge holes and sudden drops into innocuous looking pools that turned out to be a foot deep (next time I'll bring a snorkel ). Once I've cleaned the mountain of sand out of my van and off my buggy, kites and clothes, I'll be sure to bring it back to restore your sea defences. However, after a few decent runs on my 8m XT before the wind edged Northerly, I did manage to improve on my PB to 39.3mph, so while I'm gutted I didn't break 40, I don't think it was too shabby. PS. @PTW. Wanted to say hello but was already drenched and covered in sand. Figured you might be a bit concerned about the loon that was eyeing up the work of art you were riding. Maybe next time. mick Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 It was a good day for sure. I was froze at the end. I was soaked thro and knackered. I covered 18 miles with a top speed of 43mph. Most of the time I was fully powered on the 2.8 and Me and Pete had a couple of hours where the runs were at 40 mph. As said above, nice to meet everybody and have a great day on the beach. Quote
Robocourier Posted May 2, 2010 Report Posted May 2, 2010 Wet was the order of the day. Thankfully, I did bring enough spare clothes to have a change of clothes! Can't deny I'm disappointed for not beating 40, but what's with all those holes that seemed to be scattered around the beach for no particular reason?? I'm sure I saw a guy climb out of one wearing a lamp on his head! I can see why so many buggiers had BF's; ride straight over them!!!! Seriously, it was a good day, but I'd do a few things differently next time. Like set up on the damp sand, so the dry sand doesn't whip round and cover everything. Obvious now. And any kind of cross shore wind seemed to need a race kite to go upwind along the beach. How do they do that so easily? I had to tack to come back! (OK, sh!te kiter ) Have to admit I LOVED the steady sea breeze. It inspires confidence in the choice of kite size. A bit surprised not to see more freestylers making the most of not having dodgy gusts to worry about. All I need now is for someone to build a decent roadlink to get me there quicker. Quote
