Another good after work session at the Common :)

Some light winds but just enough and in the gusts a bit too much to get traction on the blade, it was exhilarating at times

Nice to see new fliers using the Common, but a word of warning all, the Council have recently cut the grass and unfortunately all the beer / energy drink cans that were on the ground at the time, I collected some shards on Sunday but be wary folks, watch where you set up and definitely no scudding on your Arse, (Ady), cos they will rip you a new one.

Could do with a new one as mine is getting old and smelly :o (detail not provided)

An ice cream seller was today found on the floor of his van covered in hundreds and thousands. Police said he topped himself.

Elected not to go Hunstanton today - if conditions were perfect for KS i dont want to know!

Instead, made it down the common with my son for a few hours this mornin. He had his first buggy lesson - went straight downwind but didn't OBE so he says he's up for another session. Then I took him for a ride - bit cramped but I think he's hooked!

So where's everyone else today? (please don't say frikkin Hunstanton! :D)

Went down at 2 Andy,

Joined by Ady, Clive, Di and Tony and also Carl, Welcome Carl.

A really gusty Channel at the far edge by the trees and some dead spots in the middle, a good to challenge my flying skills, but fun all the same. Di and Tony are doing really well in their buggies and have come on a long way recently, looks like we have some competition :)

Glad to hear you son enjoyed himself, next time send me a text and if I'm local I will join you.

May go up Weds 6.30 ish.

Cheers

Well what marvellous October weather, and just for a change the winds were quite stable at Hearsall, about 8 to 12mph but some freak gusts to 15 mph, the ground was dry and only a few beer cans scattered about, fliers present, Andy, Clive, Di, Nathan, Tony, and Me.

We met Di and Tony about a year ago, Di was the first flier, using a buggy she had brought from Tony, a PL collapse-able bug and a 3.5 Punk Rage. Di & Tony's kite flying skills have really progressed over the last 8 months or so and I think they both achieved the most distance of any flier per hour of those who flew today.

I am a bit worried about Di, tho, I think she may have caught the Kite buying Virus, she started with a Rage, brought some LEI, (she is learning and enjoying Kite Surfing) then some Blurr's and has also brought a Frenzy flown once so far. Today Di & Tony flew a 4.9 mk II blade, and they both flew it really, really well. I guess in about 6 months or so they will be fliers to beat at Hearsall, so watch out Ady :).

A great afternoon out, unseasonal weather and consistent (just about) winds at Hearsall Common.

Gonna be stuck there for a week. Will have some free time. Will have car. Any recommendations for kite or downhill spots within striking distance? If anybody wants to join me for some boarding of any sort give me a shout!

We started flying at Hearsall Common, Google address is 52.4031,-1.537743, it maybe water logged, I will have a look later today but maybe OK for a static fly tomorrow or maybe a bit of traction.

Well it was good to travel less than 2 miles to a flying area and better to see the rare lesser-spotted-Ady.

Typical conditions, it would have been better for me if they had cut the grass recently.

Good to catch up

Ady,

It's been far too long since we had a curry night, have only been 1 new one in Earsldon a few months ago, goo grub, but I think a bit mild for your liking :D but gime a shout next time you are thinking of an outing!

Paragliding ? no, sorry I mean NO I like my feet somewhat closer to the ground . . . . . and seeing your buggy riding skills I am sure you will be wanting to try this sooner or later:

Andy, sorry to have missed you, will send you a new mobile number by PM, today was spent mainly catching up with spring cleaning

Hi brummieade,

Unfortunately we are not that active at Hearsall any more, we normally travel to Cleeve Common, If you look on Goggle maps this is where we fly: Google Maps Referance 51.922008, -2.010120. If you zoom in on the map you will see some one flying, we don't know who it is.

The best winds to fly at Hearsall is with Westerly winds, there are loads of trees on either side of the common that cause turbulence with other wind directions, its a good place to learn how to fly in difficult conditions.

Had an hour on the common this afternoon, relearning the buggy. Challenging wind as always. 6.5 method- too much. 4m flow just enough but something in between would have been great. Anyway, had the place to myself...

Why? Where is everybody?

Well I thought I would break my kite flying abstinence and have a go today.

I had forgotten what a rush you get on a land board in gusty conditions, just a short session on a 6.5 in the lower winds this evening, but my arms and knees are feeling it now, a bit of an uncontrolled air in the session, but I landed it well, must have been a fluke.

Here's hoping the wind gods play fairly at the weekends.

Bring it on . . . .

I don't get up there regularly - bit hit and miss like some others locals also busy with work. It's a challenging place to kite - rarely get smooth wind ( need wsw I think - Chaos?/Greg?), right next to a busy road, people walking etc. and gets very wet (2-3" water) at times over winter.

But as its local it makes for some good fun.
