  1. I think that may be why I can't seem to do it for less than I could buy one for...
  2. I've come to the same conclusion when it comes to cost... it is actually cheaper to buy one, unless you work at a metal shop and have most of the stuff on hand already... Besides, if you buy a buggy you know it's designed for the task. If you build one you run the trail and error gauntlet, which can be painful and expensive
  3. I have a 3m Blade III and I honestly need a 2m for the days when it's too gusty or just too windy to fly the 3m... Been looking at getting a 2m Buster for higher winds and a 4.5m Bullet for lower wind days. I saw a Brand New 2m Buster on ebay for $125 (£70) so I may jump on that as the price is nice...
  4. Hey guys... been awhile... Anyways, headed to the Bahamas next month, staying right on the Harbor. Anybody been down that way lately? Any local restrictions on kiting? All I'm gonna have is my 3m BIII (as it's the only kite I own atm). Any recomendations on flying sites, kiteboarding lessons in the area, or good pubs would be very welcome.
  5. There's a shop where I live that has a NEW Blade II 2m Shame is that they want $379 for it (that's aboot 210 quid for you folks over there), and that's w/ no lines! I got my 3m Blade 3 with lines shipped to me for less than that thing would cost me
  6. Do you guys get many kites by Premier over there? If so, the Vision and the Addiction are good for the money, as you can add them both to your kite bag for about 50 quid Premier Kites site

  8. er, yeah... my 3m has red main bridles and grey brake bridles
  9. I am still in the designing phases of my ATB project, and I have yet to build anything more than templates for cutting the board shape. I'm still trying to design a jig to bend the ends of the board to the proper angle. The board itself will be a carbon fiber and wood composite, and it's possible I might try a carbon/kevlar hybrid at some point. My bindings will be custom made with carbon fiber baseplates, and the trucks will probably come from MBS, though I've been looking into other options. Wheels will be standard fare 8" or so. All in all if you have the time and skill, it is relatively inexpensive to build good ATB's, but it's alot less trouble to buy one.
  10. errrr... yeah, what he said...
  11. and where can I get them in the states?
  12. Off the Flexi Page for new sizes... of course, who knows if that's changed by now
  13. Last I heard March - April, but I'm sure you guys over there will get them before we do...

  15. or aboot ₤740
  16. Don't get me wrong... I do love the beach and will continue to fly there. The next few times, however, I will try a place near where I grew up that people fly R/C planes and such. Wide open spaces and the winds are usually steady, which is why they choose to fly there. I can just stick to the other end of the park where I'm out of their radio range and have at it. And I'll pass on the DIY Facial
  17. Got a quick but thorough lesson in the meaning of "gusty" today. Got out to the beach, nice wind, not too strong, so I set up. I launch at the edge of the window and attempted to park the kite at zenith. Aboot that time a nice big gust o' wind comes along and tosses me through the air. I was standing at my stake when this happened, and when I landed (on my side... ouch!) I was staring at the Blade backpack that I was using for ballast on the kite. I have 30m lines. So i figure that I traveled a helluva lot farther than my newbish arse wanted to, especially since I had only had my kite up a total of maybe 20 seconds when this happened. So I regroup and clear the sand out of my mouth, and try it again. I flew maybe another 10 minutes before I packed up and wished I had a 1.5m Bullet or something. All in all wind speeds were not the problem. Wind speed was actually mild. It was the gusts that got me. I think I might avoid the beach for awhile and head inland where the winds aren't as strong next time. Same distance to drive, but less chance of my day being ruined by a few strong gusts. I'll chalk this up to experience and be thankful I'm still upright. Cheers- Edit: The kite used in todays exercise was a 3m Blade 3
  18. I got 500#\300# with my BIII at my dealers recommendation
  19. You know I may be somewhat of a newb still, but even I wouldn't try something that stupid. My 3m BIII still scares me if the winds get over 18 mph or so. So I know not to fly in those wind speeds if I don't have a smaller kite handy. This guy will propbably be earning a Darwin in the future. 10.5m in 27 mph gusts with no safety? He's lucky to be upright, much less alive.
  20. Spot on! Great bit of info there...

    Jumping

I considered the Bullet myself but after reading into it some, I have opted to get a Blade. I know you can jump with a Bullet, but it's the landing you'll regret.

I looked into these things today and I have 2 things to say: 1. OUCH! 2. How much? My wife is gonna kill me if this thing doesn't first!
