  1. heating red hot then quenching makes steel hard and brittle, after this is done, polish the steel a bit with emery cloth, then heat the steel gently till it turns a blue colour, quench immediatly, this will take out the brittleness but still leave the hardness, lol i have made a few chisels and hammers at work
  2. my kava is still as good as the day i got it, a few scratches but otherwise i am very happy
  3. my Blade II 3m came with standard recreational lines 300/200, i decided to upgrade these to 500/300 as i didnt wanna risk a line breaking when i was up in the air
  4. washin in a pillow case works a treat, just make sure pillow case is seculely knotted to stop kite coming out in the wash, no softener needed
  5. this is my 2p worth, i bought the silver reef just for the price, as i was also a newbie to boards and didnt want to get anything i may not like and pay a fortune for it, it is an ideal board for a beginner, its light and does its job very well. i then went and got the kava, now this is a heavier board and i aint gonna be jumping/tricks with it, but it really is great for just cruising along, it is strong and stiff and i know its gonna last for what i do (roll over the footie fields and i dont really wanna do tricks anyway) so my daughter has claimed the silver reef as hers (and getting better than me at it, aint it always the same) and i am more than happy with the kava
  6. lol ive been snowkiting in only 2-3 inches of the stuff
  7. your weight in middle of skis is from back to front as when you lean back there is less contact/friction on front of ski, the tug of war is a very good idea and should let you visualise what will happen, why not rig up handles on the rope to get a more familiar feel

    Helmets

i just use my snowboard helmet, as it covers more of my head
  9. for those scote reading this under Scottish Law the shoreline of the Scottish mainland and of all the islands is defined as a Public Place. This Public Place extends from the low water mark to the Spring High Tide mark. The public enjoyment of the shores along Scotland’s extensive coasts for recreational purposes is long established in law. As the Spring High Tide can be as much as 3 to 4 metres higher than the average high tide, this gives plenty of scope for an aerial and operation from most Scottish Islands. There are a few exceptions e.g. it is believed that the ownership of the island of Eday in the Orkneys extends right down to the low water mark. Also, there are places where exemptions have been declared, and these are usually marked as such locally e.g. Nature Reserves, Special Areas of Conservation, Sites of Special Scientific Interest and Ministry of Defence areas etc..
  10. got any pics? and for a £10 spot plus postage that is a bargain, count me in
  11. hi King.module, lol ben wyvis = big green slope (terrible hill), look here for more http://www.munromagic.com/MountainInfo.cfm?Mountain=85
  12. for a look at a 3d board sample, go to http://www.air51.co.uk in the pics and movies you will find on page 5 a file called "pre alpha reefer test" this is easily done in 1 day
  13. im a luck sod, i got "ben wyvis" oot near me, big grassy slopes and a flat top, which happenes to be white over again, though i dont think the snow is deep enough yet, lol tourists, tell em to get oot o yer way, cos there is a mad scotsman flying thru,. the other handy thing is everyone goes to aviemore and leaves the off piste areas alone,
  14. 3d can be done quite quickly and cheaply, i use "lightwave 3d" (ill do basic stuff for free if needed) as a test, i made a 3d board in 30 mins yesterday, it depends on the level of detail, as it shouldnt need too much, just board and wheels, it can be done surprisingy fast.
  15. why not do some in 3d if you cant get the shots needed
  16. i find that if the wind isnt strong enough to get scudding, it aint worth getting on my board
  17. i wouldnt mind seeing it in 3 sections beginner - basics of moving, (ie getting going) difference between skate + channel trucks,(how many times have you been asked) and the need to wear helmets/padding etc (which i hope you do) intermediate - a few basic tricks and improving on beginner advanced - more fancy tricks and moves and not forgetting all the out-takes, lol all those bits where you wipe out trying to do a new trick
  18. i know what yer on about rasga, and you are right, it is hard to describe, but i do know what you mean.
  19. i know what you mean, on front page on manual the pic shows the footstraps are off centre, but on page 3 it shows the straps are punched centrally. im not worried about it as the bindings on the scrub are starting to fray so may need replacing soon. i wont have that problem with the kava, ill just turn em around
  20. the footstraps on my kava are off center as you say , this could turn out to be handy, if they get ripped out of the bolts its easy to turn them around and use the other side, making a longer life for them. it may also be that they are off center to allow the feet to get that little bit further over to toeside because of the shape of the board.
  21. if you download the manual you will see a list of contents 1 kite landboard with trucks and footstraps fitted 4 wheels with fitted bearings 1 safety coil leash 1 tool set instructions inner spring elastomers (kava board only) all this came in the box, so i suggest you get in touch with the shop and ask about missing bits
  22. if you got it brand new then you seem to be missing bits, mine came supplied with - manual tools (shifter, allen keys) eggs leash wheels board
  23. hi mgs, i did end up moving toeside springs to the inside position , now i can get the board turning upwind (toeside) a lot easier, i did fit the eggs into the toeside springs but have left heelside springs in outer position without the eggs, though this may change as i get more used to the board. this seems to be not too bad for me, but im sure you will find your own preferences, oh and if you dont have friend available to help in changing springs i havre found a G-clamp very useful
  24. balmedie beach is the place in aberdeen to buggy, and it aint too far out of town
  25. what a good idea this is turning out to be when you do it, could you include a look at the different boards, eg flexi, mbs, kheo, scrub etc, skate truck to channel, all the pros and cons of each, (a sort of guide to different boards) i do like the beginner bit and a more advanced feature, as im learning now i would find this very helpful, and as it is a fast growing sport, there would be many that would benefit from such a thing all i can say is get it done soon
