Right - just wanting to get an idea of interest levels for a week's trip to Iceland so I can get some prices sorted out. Looking like in the region of £400 for flights, accommodation and transport (including daily transport to the glacier). But price may be more or less depending on numbers. If you're interested then please say so here: http://www.kite-fantastic.co.uk/community/forum/viewtopic.php?t=676 You will have to sign up to the forum to post.

It has been an interesting journey to Zac and my first snow kiting session. It all started with those far and few in-between posts from around the global of snow kiting and me thinking I’d like to do that. Back in Oz, it was some thing like a six hour drive just to get there, and to start with apart from the kites we did not have the gear. So lot’s of questions to those on the EK that might know thing about Snow kiting (thanks @clive and @goshen), slowly the picture came together. Then came the big move from Australia to New Zealand - South Island - Christchurch, snow kiting would finally become a reality. First step was to pick whether we were to ski or snow board, since…

So it is nearly mid summer and everyone is thinking of a summer holiday getting a tan, kitesurfing etc etc ... and I have been talking today with a friend about snowkiting in Sweden and there are a lot of very interesting places to go if you wanted. The problem comes mainly with TIME and MONEY the further North you go the more time consuming and the more costly BUT the greater the rewards... So the real questions are if you would like to go... 1) how much would you be prepared to spend 2) how long would you want to go for 3) when would you want to go bearing in mind it is damn cold in the very north in mid winter (and very dark a lot too ) any i…

I like to take up snowkiting with skis. Have been snowkiting with the snowboard quite a few times in the mountains, but feel ski are probably better suited to cross country trips. Can anybody advise as to the type of skis/ bindings/ boots suitable for all mountian cross country?

It seems to me that amongst the kiters on this forum there are a lot of skiers/boarders too. It also seems that as soon as someone books a ski/snowboard holiday they want to know whether the resort is suitable for kiting. In my experience in most cases they'e not, but I reckon we need a thread (this thread) to form a list of every ski resort that someone has had a positive kiting experience at (and a list of places which it's just not worth taking a kite to). It is not a list of snow kite venues (it's a list of ski resorts) Periodically I'll update this post based on comments placed in the thread below. If the admin want to make it sticky then cool! Ski reso…

You've all seen the kitesurfing and buggying/landboarding sites listed on our locations page. Thankyou to everyone that has contributed to our ever expanding list. It has really come along well and has made finding popular flying sites so much easier. What we are now in need of are a few snowkiting locations. I know a few of you have been snowkiting over the last couple of seasons, so see if you can use the locations page to zoom in and pinpoint the good spots you found. Once you have zoomed in, just click on the 'Add Site' button and fill in a few site details. Pictures of the sites you found would be a huge bonus too :D cheers, Gav

OK, I know it is early Jan, but is anyone intending on spending anytime in the backcountry kiting next season? I am looking at potentially spending a week up in white stuff this year, so if anyone else is considering it, maybe some forward planning could see a decent size crew turn up. I am thinking of the Victorian Ski fields, but NSW fields are also an option. Post any snowkiting intentions for 2008 here and we'll see how much interest we can muster. Cheers Pete

Hi Guys, I'm back from the snow in Japan and thinking about the next Winter I've mentioned Bogong to a couple of you, we're now planning this winter's trip. Essentially we have a back country chalet (through the scout association) we ski into from Falls Creek for a week at a time. Don't worry, it's only 7k's on a fire-trail. Chances to get stay right on good snow-kiting snow here in Australia are few and far between, so if anyone's interested in coming down let me know. The chalet sleeps about 30, is off the grid, so generators and wood fired stove, and no staff or anything, so everyone pitches in to cook, chop wood etc, but even with that we're on t…

In Australia there are no designated snowkite 'spots' like Skyline in North America or Col Du Lautaret in France or like kitesurfing beaches in the major cities. All of the best areas to snowkite in NSW are in the backcountry. The whole area is fair game but there is potential to have the sport banned if people start kiting in poorly thought out locations adjacent to the resorts. Every conceivable snowkite location is within the boundaries of the national park so any ban would completely kill off the sport in oz. If you are not prepared or ill-equipped to hike out into the backcountry then I would recommend leaving your kites at home and going downhill ski/boarding instea…

Looking to do a trip next year using kites and touring skis to go across the Hardangervidda Plateau in Norway. We have 6 or 7 days and if the wind is good the plan is to go further. Looking at getting one kite for the trip. Question is which kite??? I was thinking about the Ozone Access XC, but does the Frenzy have a better wind range? Or something else entirely I weigh 80kg. Kit in rucksac plus skis/boots will probably weigh another 20kg. I've been kitesurfing for 3 years. Went snowkiting in Haugastol this year with an old 9m Flexi Sabre. Looking for something with a bit more wind range and much better upwind.

Hello everybody, I first like to say hello, as I'm a newbie in this forum. Now, my question: I got 3 weeks in January to go Snowkiting either in the States or in Canada...(January 5th till 25th) and I would like to have as many snowkiting days as possible just like everybody, and if there's no wind I would just go snowboarding...so that's the limitation, kinda, besides that I'm open to anything, maybe something not overly crowded... I have checked out several threads on this and other forums, but some of them seemes that some of them are kinda old... Places that I read of: Whistler, Banff, Denver area, Salt Lake City... Thank you very much for some go…

OK, I cannot help but start my research well before the season starts and have a few questions to kick things off with! I'm thinking of NZ this winter, havn't skied or snow boarded before but i have no doubts about my ability to do so Yes, i figure i could hire a board...but we all know we're addicted so why bother with hiring? So, what size board should I be looking at? I'm 174cm, 68kgs. On the water I use a 125, and Id would say I fall under the category of freestyle with board choice, if that helps with selection? Ok, next is another kite.. I spend most my time on my 10.5m Core GT on the water (13-30+kts~), and as much as I would love to use it on t…

Hey all, I found this one today and was watching it thinking if they were ever going to come back down. These kites are simply amazing, these have to be one of the longest, floatiest airs I have ever seen on a kite. Take a look at the VIDEO: http://www.air-evolution.co.uk/images/in-the-air.wmv'>http://www.air-evolution.co.uk/images/in-the-air.wmv Website for the manufacturers is: http://www.air-evolution.co.uk Regards, Joel
