Lolage Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 I snowboard so im wondering if i can use my snowboard for snowkiting or do i have to get a specially designed board? Cheers. Quote
sonicseal Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 You will probably struggle with a directional board and true twin tips are very rare. The £200 Nobile snowkite board is a cracking board for the job. Works a treat. Quote
metal_snapper1599968645 Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 I've had no probs using my directional board....just centre the stance as best you can.....and set both your bindings up to +15 so your stance is 'Duck' style....Never rode a Twin Tip.....so cant comment.....but no complaints with using a directional... kahis Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 I use a Salomon AMP (05) feeeride board and it works just fine. It is definitely not a true twintip, but reasonably symmetric nonetheless. The difference is notable in low winds, but once properly powered it hardly matters; upwind is sligthly better in one direction and so is stability, but I've done 30 mph in both directions without any problems. EDIT: I'm also using 15 degrees with a duck stance. Works fine, never tried anything else. Quote
KermitStu Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 any idea what the air evolution board is like Quote
kahis Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 I also have a Nobile snowboard; it is slightly smoother and truly symmetric, but I am not 100% happy with the build quality. The Salomon board is definitely better made. Quote
sonicseal Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 You will probably struggle with a directional board and true twin tips are very rare. Sorry, by directional, I meant one that has an obvious tail and nose Quote
Kat Posted September 10, 2006 Report Posted September 10, 2006 No probs using a regular snowboard..as has been said just go for a duck stance as centred as possible. IF you feel the need for a true twin look out for the freestyle/park/rail sections on manufacturers websites. Ride, Jeenyus and Stepchild do twins if I remember correctly though do look at the measurement details in the write up just to be sure. I havent ridden a Nobile but I believe it has a large sidecut to help with the kite flyers heel bias ( I may be wrong though, as I said, I havent ridden one.) This is cool if all you are going to do is snowkite but I went for a Rome Detail so I could use it to snowboard when the wind drops. Quote
Lolage Posted September 10, 2006 Author Report Posted September 10, 2006 Cool well i go every year to france snowboarding so it'd be ideal. Quote
KermitStu Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 has any one tryed the air evolution board i would realy like to know what its like as im planning to buy a board and it seems like the obveiouse choice Quote
g0nz01599968659 Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 You could do a lot worse than having a look at http://www.heli-boards.com .... They do a nice 148 Freestylee twin tip which would be very nice with a kite. They are out of the same factory as a rather well known manufacturer but at a third the cost. Its a simple no frills board which does exactly what it says on the tin:D The build quality on them has been good enough to survive LOTS of dryslope ramp & rail abuse with no obvious ill effects. Imported by the same company who do the Pegas kites:) Dan Quote

radar Posted September 15, 2006 Report Posted September 15, 2006 very nice price but its abit long for me pluse i want an air evo one:D here's a challenge for you mate. see if you can go the whole week without posting the words Air Evo or similar. we've got the message now that you'r suffering from a bad case of cognitive dissonance and are trying hard to convice yourself, as much as anyone that you have a nice kite please, stop stinking up all the threads with your subtle style of repping. i'd like to hear what you actually have to say about a subject for once, your own opinion, rather than another comment about air evo or whatever awkwardly shoe-horned in there Quote

KermitStu Posted September 15, 2006 Report Posted September 15, 2006 @ dazza-s Here is What air evo said in reply to my email Hi Stuart, Nice to meet you ! -Concerning bindings: no problem it accepts everything ... however for your own safety we don't recommand back entry binding like "flow system" for example. Indeed to put binding off you have to be on the front of the board ... and if you have an emergency it will be more difficult to escape!! -First of all we are snowboarders, then, when we climb mountains with kite we enjoy packing kite and snowboarding down ! It was very essential for us to get the best board either for snowkiting than snowboarding. Don't be afraid it works well ! We recommand this board for people under 80kg. Remind that this board is the most titled snowkite board in all the story of snowkite ... 5 times World Champion !! You're welcome for snowkiting in France! Good ride, Damien i hope this dosn't offend or annoy anyone. i did say i would post the reaply as other people would also liek to know what they said Quote

Shame i'm 5kg over the limit but I don't surpose that matters. What are "back entry" bindings and if they are no good does anyone know the best ones for snow kiteing. How many people have bought from Heliboards by the way? What's the service like? Nice basic no thrills boards those... I want the girlly graphic one Quote
KermitStu Posted September 15, 2006 Report Posted September 15, 2006 hi man i doubt 5kg will mater back entry are ones that you dont undo the straps, your foot slides in the back and then the rear part raises to keep your foot in Quote
