sharpey1 Posted May 30, 2007 Report Posted May 30, 2007 hi I'm after People's opinion on high wind kites something in the region of 2 to 3 m for when it gets up to 30 to 35 mph I want something that is rock solid on onshore or offshore winds. I have a 2.5 m razor but things can get a little hearing when you're doing 35 mph+ and the tips tuck so I'm looking for something a little bit more forgiving. Thanks Stuart Quote
madasabloke Posted May 30, 2007 Report Posted May 30, 2007 but things can get a little hearing when you're doing 35 mph+ Turn down the iPod Sorry!! Had to be said!! 2.0 or 2.5 U-Turn Oxygen is my choice for high winds, also a phone call to St John Ambulance as thats the wind speed where all the nasty injury's come too!! Quote
Active-8 Posted May 30, 2007 Report Posted May 30, 2007 use the razor and tighten the brakes more to hold it back in the window a bit more. you need full concetration with most race kites and then need input more of the time to keep them in check. for 35+ i use to use a 3mtr little devil.....best kite i ever had for high winds and was gutted when it was stolen. now i use the flexi rages for high wind then step to a 3.4 yakusa after that. if you can get your hands on one then a 2.6 gin yoz is the kiddy but there like fishes toe nails Quote
bigred1599968607 Posted May 30, 2007 Report Posted May 30, 2007 gin zig u-turn helium pkd buster ozone sammy spoilt for choice but in 35mph winds id stay indoors just askin for trouble Quote
Angoose Posted May 30, 2007 Report Posted May 30, 2007 i highly rate the little devil's my mate flys them inland and uses the full set of them..... brilliantly stable kites but not a boring kite at the same time... also the sammy another one and the pkd buster 2....i'd stay away from the buster1's if you want stability realy.... had a 5.5 and was **** in the gusts Quote
windjammer1599968715 Posted May 30, 2007 Report Posted May 30, 2007 ive flown my 2.5 rage in 40mph plus it realy stable. you cud fit the aaa kit to it to make it go upwind faster to Quote
mikeymustard Posted May 30, 2007 Report Posted May 30, 2007 2.0 or 2.5 oxigen, stable as hades (don't know about the helium II 1.8 yet). or a 1.6 /2.0m Jackfoil. I've got a 2.1 LD, couldn't recommend it in less than perfect 35mph wind (ok in the air but be careful when you land it) and a 1.5 bullet - twitchy in those nasty big winds, but probably won't kill you. Pablo Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 2m Brooza. Good in the gusty stuff and predictable. So far my top speed to date was on a 2m Brooza, 25mph winds and I got a 45.6mph out of it. The 3m Sammy didn't want to keep up to me. Quote
terra Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 1.5 Bullet, flew mine in 62.2mph until the a line snapped. Put some stronger lines on it comes out regularly when the wind gets mental Quote
jeffrington Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 I can recomend a 1.8 helium for mad wind days, stable as as anything, considerably less pull than a 2.0 oxigen though so maybe a 2.2 helium as well would suit. Quote
SandMonster Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 6m phantom...means you can relax a little... Quote
Simon Bailey Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 Im with Pablo on this...2m Brooza. Last time out at Les Hemmes, 2m Brooza's were order of the day in 40mph+ winds. Quote
Snowman Taff Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 2m Brooza for me, does exactly what it say's on the tin... Quote
jeffrington Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 2m Brooza for me, does exactly what it say's on the tin... These kites come in a tin??? Quote
martnic Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 2m Brooza for me, does exactly what it say's on the tin... These kites come in a tin??? I'm sure if you were to ask Roger - you can get them made in whatever colours, and a couple of material choices so I'm sure a tin could be done!! Quote
Mouthwash Posted June 2, 2007 Report Posted June 2, 2007 3.5m Butane, I just hang on till it gets silly, I really should sell the 2.5, it's only used as a stunt kite these days..... Quote
Trikbitz Posted June 2, 2007 Report Posted June 2, 2007 2m Brooza we were out in 40+mph winds for 2 days in Les Hemmes and this was the kite to have Quote
