Sorry to hijack your thread guys, but I'm an "not-so-regular" flyer nowadays from Basingstoke and looking to shift my harness that only got used once.

Other commitments and the world of longboarding have taken over, so not out flying as much. Spudley if you're still out there, hope all's good with you.........I will get out for a fly sometime, I promise, as I still have the "old skool" blade and Mac Bego. ;o)

LOL bet you guys can't wait until my bar is fixed, stop my winging.

I have foud a Universal Strap depower System: http://www.kitesurfwarehouse.com/kite-accessories.html

do you think this will do the job for my bar, DM you have had the closest look at it, I think it's worth a go. Would like to ditch the cleat systems!

Also NooNoo what are your plans for last friday this month as I may change my 1 day hols around to match..

hello Peeps.

Currently basking in GRAND SLAM GLORY:cool:

Sorry I missed out last week Snap. Had the friday off. Couple of things to watch with strap systems on SLE's

1. You sometimes need the throw on the bar which then puts the strap out of reach. Look at the ones on the waroo. They're really long so you can reach them.

2. SLE's can accomodate a bigger range of movement. The strap might reduce this therefore reducing the wind range. there is a way round it by using the knots on the kite to shorten / lengthen lines.

I know what you mean with Cleats. I like the simplicity (of use) of straps.

Right,I'm around the weekend of 29th / 20th March. strongly thinking of taking the Friday (28th) off for kiting.

Travel Monkey - A couple of guys flying at crabtree since last summer are looking for a harness M-L, dont know if they look on here though but if you can get to crabtree at the weekends you may find a willing buyer. Next time I am out if I see them I will mention it.

NN - Too late Friday should be booked, remember, if no wind I have a floor to do.

Snap - Not keen on that strap I agree with NN, you need an SLE specific strap, that looks like a standard C strap.

what about this 1 the 07 Best strap?

Noo Noo any ideas for the saftey, me and Dave were a little baffled about the best solution for this, so not to have too much sag in the line when de-powered. i.e. the current setup allows for the saftey line to stay the same lenght.

:D

yeah that strap is better.

2 ways to run the safety with a strap.

1. to leash connected directly to 1 of the front lines. depending on your chicken loop the chances are it wont allow a spinning bar. 100% kill though

2. Mini 5th line set up connected to both front lines. You need a lot of throw on the bar for this and it's not 100% kill. Oh Poop handles and your wits are required. This system is easier to reset.

Before you go firing off into the blue yonder how much are you thinking of spending? If you're thinking of changing the bar set up it has to be worth considering a new centre line set up - new trim, centre line, swivel and safety.

Yes I want to get the bar setup right this time, so I will spend a bit of dosh on it, I think your right about replacing the whole depower system, but I am not sure on the best solution. If a cleat solution will work better then I am not totally against it. At current the saftey pulls the 2 front lines and DM an I got the OSH setup now.

Any recommedations welcome, :)

lots of choices now snap.

I like the Ocean Rodeo System - very clean and simple, but uses a cleat on the C'loop,

Best system - I'm not sure how they have their safety rigged now though,

Peter Lynn - believe it or not!! DM will smiling right now.

loads of others too

I'm not a huge fan of some of the over complicated looking release systems that some companies employ - new GK system, Caution, Slingshot, Airush. Just too much going on.

i'll have a peak at what's available on line.

I'm off work all of next week, forecast is promising so I am wondering if anyone is around for a weekday session?

might be able to go on wednesday, looks a bit chilly at the moment though.

was supposed to be freezing cold today down there but turned out to be fairly warm... wind was gusty as hel thou' causing even the venom to drop from the sky. Tried to relaunch it with no luck, ended up dragging it out of the sea :( knackering.

I finally sorted out my bar today!

Got a new one LOL, picked up a Naish SLE 07 bar with better saftey though above the bar.

I came back tonight and hooked it up to the kite in a field but a bit of back line adjustment is needed as they were extremley slack? Might need some tips on best way to do this, knots on the kite lines but need to get it right.

The forecast for Wednesday has dropped considerably, tomorrow might be ok. Other than that Fri/Sat and Sun is looking good.

looks like the w/end is most likely, friday is a possibility with the aid of some red bull.;)

should have a new kite to play with by then.:)

No hanging round there then. Can that bar be used withouth the 2:1 pulleys?

Line adjustment should be - Screw driver in the ground. All the lines attached to the screwdriver. Trim strap out all the way (Fullpower). ALL Lines should be the same length when the bar is pulled tight against the chicken loop. You can leave an a inch or so "extra pull" if you like.

Chances are you'll get a bit of line stretch if you're using older lines anyway.

Friday ladies and gents. I'm off remember.

Marko venom on water? thought you were in Vegas land???

What did you get in the end?

Friday I can drive Spud, save you some energy.

NN, Wind was too light for my 10m Vegas and the Ozone was not handling the gusts too well (was going from 10knt to 22knt+ in the blink of an eye) so I tried the Venom, was handling the gusts very well but then just collapsed finally reforming and driving itself into the water :( was like dragging a big slug out of the water.

hmm Shame. That's why I dont like them. I want as much chance as possible of getting the kite back in the air, or in a worse case scenario something to hang on to.

had a close shave myself on Saturday. Bad jump ended up landing at Mach 10 in about a foot water. (accidental back loop kite loop) I redsicovered I bounce quite well. :p Haven't lost that yet....

Had an awkward pack down to top it all. 9m was not behaving and was being very careful of a accidental relaunch / death spin in 20-25kn+. Got there though. That 9m can be an evil little beast at times.

Crossing fingers for end of the week.

Spud - whats the new kite?

Snap - I may be interested in your old bar if you don't want it.

Friday - booked off, ready to kite. High tide is 3pm which is a downer as I think the pm is looking much better and swings from a S'ly in the AM to W'ly by mid afternoon.

NN - got your kite van down here as we may need it Friday. Sounds like there could be six keen kiters.
