Roger Melly Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 If Mike Shaw or Ian Meredith (or their monkey;) ) will not answer our questions then can i suggest those of us not happy register our complaints with someone who will do something about it. http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/publications/consumer-leaflet.htm Are you sure it hasn't already been done? I'll fire one off anyway. Anyone else? Quote
archangel Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 Who volunteers to be smacked round the head with a board to see if the BBC really does pay out? Aaagh, but if they did pay out, you would have to sign a confedentiality clause....... Have heard that this is what has happened to a fairly prominent member of the kiting community........ While I want to get to the bottom of this as much as everyone else, I also worry that if what we suspect is true, then the lack of the "magic talisman" that is an insurance policy could cause access issues with councils..... That said, I know I'm covered, and have read my insurance documentation that covers me Lee Quote
Agger Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 Are Mike Shaw or Ian Meredith brokers ? if so surely it's illegal to only offer one type of cover Quote
archangel Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 Are Mike Shaw or Ian Meredith brokers ? if so surely it's illegal to only offer one type of cover And if they're not, then how do they decide what is and isn't covered in the policy? *cough* not mentioning any club events *cough* Lee Quote

jonsale Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 Or send of your cheque, get your card later to say your insured and then 7 months down the line receive a letter to say they've 'filed' your cheque instead of cashing it and can they have another one for £15:confused: how interesting.... happened to me as well. sent another cheque asking for a new card from the date they received my cheque as i hadn't been insured all that time. still haven't cashed the cheque still haven't replied to my letter Quote

carl999 Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 Some of the stuff on this thread is really funny, affiliation to the BBC/PKSF is not too difficult and results in free events insurance, yea I will be the first to admit it can be a little time consuming but well worth the effort, you only have to ask any AOSPKC member what they think of our events, Mell visited our beach at the weekend to assess the way we ran our events, his written advice was most welcomed and we will implement his recommendations on our future events, AOSPKC has helped other groups in the past with the affiliation process and will continue to do so in the future, Mell does distribute our club documents to other groups but they will need specific risk assessments for the site you use, blatent copying with little input from yourselves stands out a mile and Mell would probably ask you for some form of editing, all I would say is go for it the fun AOSPKC has is immense:D http://www.britishbuggyclub.co.uk/affiliation.html Carl. With respect Carl, affiliation (even it we wanted it ) is not an option for SEKA/SWATK. You only have one flying site. We have many. That makes it impossible without breaking up the club.We have suceeded in doing risk assessments without any copying. We only last weekend put on a fairly large event at Eastbourne which was highly praised by the riders, members and the council - despite incorrect rumours about not having insurance. We have 4 other events now in the planning stage. You find this thread funny, personally I find anyone suggesting affiliating to the BBC both amusing and bemusing. Why? What could we gain from it? We've done all you've talked about, and then some, without any help from the BBC. Quote
carl999 Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 Roger, we are fundamentally very different groups, AOSPKC was: set up on the foundation that power kiting is a fun and exhilarating sport, which should be open to all, at minimum cost. A power kite can be defined as: When flying a kite whether 2-line or 4-line and the pilot is dragged/pulled by the force of the kite, this is Power Kiting. Maybe I should have been more specific with what I find funny on this thread but I simply have better things to do, my post was mainly aimed at assisting with groups of power kiters seeking affiliation to the BBC/PKSF giving them free events insurance, encouraging groups to get this events cover is surely the right & responsible thing to do, if you have found an alternative fair enough, but if we all go our own seperate ways I aint sure this is the best way for our sport in general. What the BBC / PKSF ask of clubs is a type of benchmarking, we all follow the affiliation guidelines making all clubs similar in operation, this will help with Sports England recognition etc.etc. Help is out there if you want it, any group seeking affiliation only needs to ask. Carl. p.s My last post here unless it is to do with helping others affiliate Quote

lloydg01 Posted July 22, 2005 Report Posted July 22, 2005 Did I do the wrong thing? Have read through all ten pages of this and I'm even more confussed... I'm a solo flyer, not linked with any clubs, wandering around Dunstable Downs, Stopsley Common and Hemel Bunkers Field. I sent my BBC cheque off yesterday... If I suddenly lost control of my 4.9 Blade III and it hit a jogger running by and they sued me... Would my BBC Insurance pay up? Quote
Agger Posted July 22, 2005 Report Posted July 22, 2005 It's no good asking questions as they don't get answered, were still waiting to find out if anyone has ever had a claim made against them If I suddenly lost control of my 4.9 Blade III and it hit a jogger running by and they sued me...
