BobTheRussianGarbageMan Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 I need answers! Trying to fill out UCAS forms is driving me insane and I have decided to adopt a different (im sure youll agree better) approach to finding a uni Quote
Maj Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 Haha, i went along the same lines choosing all Coastal unis when I filled in my UCAS form. Unfortuantely, the one I ended up going for in the end (Bath), is the least coastal of the lot! Quote
BobTheRussianGarbageMan Posted September 18, 2004 Author Report Posted September 18, 2004 Unlucky mate! Ill take bath off my list then...I was thinking St Andrews would be great- but the courses arent really suited and I dont think I'd stand a cat in hells chance of getting in! Quote
anything Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 st andrews is a great place to fly, but you need really good grades i heard that there was going to be a uni kite club set up at edinburgh, so thats where im applying for Quote
jamie963 Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 i'm off to aberystwyth next weekend, i've been doing abit of research and the beaches round that way seem to all b good for buggying. all hard packed sand Quote
BobTheRussianGarbageMan Posted September 18, 2004 Author Report Posted September 18, 2004 hmmmm what about Exeter? Quote
SkintMonkey Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 Oh dear:confused: I think i need to get a move on with filling in my ucas form......... Quote
jamie963 Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 theres good beaches down that way aswell, the only problem is they are abit busy think you will have problems in the summer but u should b alright over the winter. what course you looking to do at uni? jamie Quote
Invalid Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 hmmmm what about Exeter? there was an exeter uni open day today, i think im gonna check it out in the later one in october some time...long drive from the north west:rolleyes: -Ross Quote
steveP Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 Swanny and Ninja went to Swansea. It's was here the X-Zone began. Check out the vid of them getting from thier digs to the beach. Not that I condone that sort of behaviour. Quote
archangel Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 Bristol is the home of traction kiting!!! (the first ever kite p[owered vehicle was flown here!) Also Bristol UWE has its own Kite Club (www.kiteuwe.co.uk) depending on what course you want to do, UWE offers most course. Its a realy great city to live in, close to the Welsh beaches and Weston Super Mare, also the local kiters are really friendly Drop me a line if you want a tour. Lee Quote
i van Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 swansea! not to far away from pembrey and if the ban is lifted pendine!!!!! Quote
AKing Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 No doubt you've never heard of it, but UHI? Based in Inverness, courses are mainly outdoor type (fishing, farming, tourism etc) Loads of empty beaches up here though... Quote
scud49841599968587 Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 have a word with Rasga, he`s in Staffs uni n we got some real good beaches ranging from Hoylake(gotta be a member but well worth it) 1 hour away, and loads of use regularly go to wales for mad flying w`ends Quote
Natz Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 Sunderland Uni have a KiteSports club!! Bit of a treck to the best Buggying beach (40mins drive), but worth it! Newcastle and Northumberland are close, and you can get associate membership to the Sunderland uni club. Good luck choosing!! Luv Natz xxx Quote
lardyb Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 Swansea all the way. I went there for the surfing initially but after a few years away have moved back for the buggy beaches. Another plus point is if you chose the right course realy low grades required (2 e's to get onto the course I did). Flying sites near swansea Swansea beach (outside the uni, be carefull in the summer though) Llangenith (not the best bit lumpy but fairly large) and great surfing Pembray (one word .............stunning) Pendine (not quite as good as pembray, could be worth it on a S wind when the ban is lifted) Can't think of any other uni with as many quality sites as near Quote
Wildchild Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 Haha, i went along the same lines choosing all Coastal unis when I filled in my UCAS form. Unfortuantely, the one I ended up going for in the end (Bath), is the least coastal of the lot! I did the exact same thing. So are you starting at Bath this year? What course you doing? Dave Quote
Maj Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 Nope, taking a year out first. Then I'm starting in October '05 doing "Computers, Electronics and Communications". Am I gonna regret going to Bath, or are there still plenty of good places to kite nearby? What about kitesurfing? I'm really going to miss having the car to move all my stuff around ! Quote
spiky_dave Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 I think someone mentioned UWE, but proper bristol (not that there is any rivalry, ever, no) has a kite club, and a kitesurfing chunk of the windsurfing club (we were going to break off, but the swa (sudentwindsurfing.co.uk) events/parties are just too good...). And bath isn't that far away from weston super mud and wales... Quote
Wildchild Posted September 22, 2004 Report Posted September 22, 2004 Am I gonna regret going to Bath, or are there still plenty of good places to kite nearby? What about kitesurfing? I'm really going to miss having the car to move all my stuff around ! There's various places to kite, you can still just about fly on campus although there isn't the space for any wheeled activities (bloody new halls of residence). Lansdown is the nearest place I've come across for Buggying/Boarding and is serviced by the Park and Ride buses if you don't have any transport. Bristol's only 15 miles away, and Weston-Super-Mud is probably about 20 beyond that. On the kitesurfing side of things Poole Harbour is reachable (about 75 miles) if you have a car. I ran the windsurf club last year and we always used to go down there. If it wasn't for the fact the windsurfing club has just ceased to exist (because I wasn't prepared to run it single handed going into my final year and noone else could be bothered) then I'd recommend that as a handy way of getting down to the coast. You never know, someone might restart it by the time you get here. Basically, I don't think you'll regret it. You will miss having a car but there are ways around it. And hey, you can always bring a car down after your first year. Dave Quote
