nigel Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 Wwwwwaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D What a weekend!!! Well a very long weekend! I think it is safe to say that we all had a good time. While the wind and the weather may not have been the greatest. The wonderful company (most of you fellow kite nutters here off EK) from all that turned up, was fantastic!! Four days of kites, kite talk, a few bevvies (more than a few for some:eek:), kite videos, jokes, great company, and we even flew some kites! Friday (if you had the day off like me:D): a light onshore, only about 8 knots, playing on the main beach! Big jam session at HQ on the Friday night, and a few drinks. Saturday: The wind was NE so we had to use the inlet. Not as bad as you think. The Blokarts were having a race there so we tried to stay out of their way the best we could, but we still had fun. Sunday: Well the rain hit and stayed till 2pm (I think the drinking started at 9.30am). Many of us made the trip to the main beach just to see if we could use it, not to be:( Wind straight down the beach, and it was very strong too (scudding at speed with a 1.8m kite!). Big BBQ at the HQ, more eating and drinking! Monday: Well the wind was still NE, so off to the inlet. This time though, we had it all to ourselves!!. Some great ATB, and buggy action throughout the day, and not forgeting the kite surfers amongst the speed week crew having a ball too. Races were held, some bashing of boards and kites ensued for both races. PL Scorpions won both the races! Tuesday: A day fillled with sadness as we all realised that was about it till next year. Not all of us were finished though. Buggies, boards, and kites were taken down the inlet for one last time. Wind still NE, and strong, a few of the newer kiters got out and had a play under the watchful eye of us more experienced kiters. Lunch at the Cafe and off home we went. Get in quick for next year, or the event in March. Many said the're comming back for more, and I can see it happening!! To all those who went, I hope you had a good time, and I look forward to seeing your faces some time in the near future. Quote

.Joel Posted November 8, 2007 Author Report Posted November 8, 2007 Event Roundup Hi All, Well it was safe to say everyone who came and stayed had a great time. There was kiting, laughs, food, more food and drinking. We haven't finalized the total count yet however over the 5 days we had an estimated 52 individuals. We will announce the total number and some stats on the event next week. Day 1 (Arrival) A number of people got down to Sandy Point early to catch the first day's low tide on the main beach. While a number of us didn't get there till later in the afternoon after being out shopping till 1am the night before with some strange black queenslander who wanted to hoon around a tarago We arrived at Sandy Point about 1pm, and opened up the houses and sneaked the show bags on to people's beds. Then it was time to return to the HQ and setup for the 5 days. Day 2 Low tide was just before lunch, and the wind was blowing North East which is an offshore on the main beach. So we decided to hit the inlet for some fun, it would have been a good 20 - 25 knots down there. When we first arrived the spit at the inlet was still under an inch or two of water, but some of us didn't have the paitence to wait so we setup and went for a blast. Kiting for a few hours was great fun, afterwards most people headed back to Dukey's & Schultzie's place for drinks. Day 3 Woke up and it was raining, Gav & Katie made a trip to Foster to pickup some things of the BBQ that night and roads we flooded + 3 river crossings where the water was all over the place. They made it back safely and it continued to rain There was a break in the afternoon and a few people got out for a fly, while the XK team @ HQ setup for the BBQ that night. The BBQ kicked off, and we setup the Ozone tent to give us more outdoor shelter. There were a few give aways thanks to Kitepower, Kiteforce and Kamikaze. We had frisbies, rashies, kites etc. Congratulations to Vickie who won the 2.5m Ozone Cult door prize. The night was fun, and everyone had a great night, we had a great mix of newbies, experienced flyers, instructors, land kiters and kite surfers. Steve McCormack presented Vicki with a 2.5m Ozone Cult on behalf of Kitepower. Day 4 The wind was on, it was NE so we hit Shallow Inlet once again for fun on the spit. We were wanting to run the races on the main beach, but this wasn't possible so we ran a 3 point course on the spit. It consisted of two down wind turns that marked a huge down wind run, and an upwind turn right out on the point that meant your kite was going to drown if you didn't get it right. Enough of this easy course rubbish, racing is there for a challenge Landboard Race Justin and Goshen got off to a flying start. Goshen wasn't sporting his usual Yakuza for the race, instead went out underpowered on a 4m Access2. They passed the line and within 10 meters boards were clanking and shuving. The field spread out and Justin created a nice lead well powered on his Peter Lynn Scorpion. Danny was crusing around in his unique style. Justin finished 1st position. Buggy Race The race started with Nigel and myself hitting the front. We two laps later I performed an upwind turn, whilst Nigel took a different tack and ended up closer to the water. As his kite came down I raised my kite to power up no idea he had moved to that position and our kites collided leaving me with a bow tie and me giving him a few choice words from my colourful dictionary as he scooted off. Andy & Dukey had a tangle at the marker which gave me opportunity to catch up. Pete and Ben comfortably pacing themselves. There were a few more collisions throughout the race at the upwind turn marker which had me slowly play catchup and fight back to 2nd position, however Nigel was simply too fast. There was no closing the gap on him, as I distanced myself from the pack, nigel managed to further distance himself from me as he went for it. Well done to him, and yet another excellent example of how well skilled he is racing. Nigel finished with 1st Position. It was a great race, and a good opportunity for some of the new flyers who came to watch and get an idea of what it is about. We look forward to you jumping in and flying at the next one. Buggy Race Presentation Pete Stuart presented Nigel Clifford with a Wind Meter & Kite Sealant on behalf of BrisKites. Day 5 (Departure) A few early birds to the inlet to have a quick fly, the rest of us packed up and prepared for the journey home. Not without lunch at the cafe together then headed back. A great time, with some great memories and great new friends. We left sad, but remembering we will be back in March photos PS: We are now running a competition thanks to Kiteforce. The two best photos of the event will win a prize, all information on prizes and how to enter can be found here: Extreme Kites Speed Week 2007 Photo Competition. Regards, .Joel Quote
Steve Posted November 8, 2007 Report Posted November 8, 2007 Hey Joel, Gavin, Gavs Partner, Mel, and all the crew who helped to put together a great event - THANKS! Col and myself are missing from a lot of the pics of the action during the days, because we arrived at the inlet early each day and got on the water, for hours of kitesurfing. Friday on the main beach was excellent fun buggying to Sandy Pt and back with a 10M Flysurfer Speed2, using the new Ozone XC harness, awesome!! Col learned to buggy in just a few hours, having never seen the sport in action before. Fantastic weekend, will definitely be coming back to Sandy Pt. Next time we will sort our accomodation well in advance, at Sandy Pt, but staying at the Fish Creek pub was a pleasure, inexpensive, and the meals were amazingly good too after a long days kiting with no lunch!! Pics here http://picasaweb.google.com/kitepower09/SandyPt Quote
Luke Posted November 8, 2007 Report Posted November 8, 2007 Wicked photos great write up, what a great event, congrats to all that organised it. Putting land kiteing on the map in Aus. I think you should move this write up to general kiting btw so it gets more exposure Quote

The Duke Posted November 8, 2007 Report Posted November 8, 2007 Many thanks to all the people involved in organising this event, and to all the crazy kitefliers that made it so much fun. I will look forward to March, and hopefully a Southerly wind to go along with it. Nigel, your record is safe for now, I only topped out at 73.2Km/h on the spit this trip, but there's always another day:rofl: And to those who missed all the fun this time......... Start planning for your attendance in March and join in the fun. We proved this time, even if it does rain bucket fulls, we can still have a great weekend of kiteing and enjoy the company and stories of other like minded fools that enjoy this great past time of ours. There are more events being organised for '08 as we speak, so if you can't make it to at least one, your not planning it right. Remember the first priority in life is to enjoy it wherever possible. Thanks again, for a great weekend. . Quote
