It's time to hit it again m' peeps. Riverwood or Longreef, Maybe even Heffron park near Maroubra for something different. Final decision will be made saturday morning, so check back.

I will be at Georges Kendal Park in Ermington on Saturday morning for about 2 hours between 09:00 and 13:00.

The wind is full West and established from that direction for 2 days, that's good over there. The wind will be regular between 10kn and 14kn.

The grass is soft because of the late rain and there is one small paddle down the little hill, but the rest of the land is usable and there is usually nobody except a grandpa who kicks golf balls but he doesn't mind playing somewhere else when i get there !!

It's a huge area to kite...

Hi Guys,

Been talking to Luke during the week - Due to the rain we have had and the fact that it is a Westerly we thought the best and driest spot would be back up the Hill. We were also thinking of Riverwood but am pretty sure that there would be large puddles everywhere down there. Definately keen for a day on the beach but not particulary in the winter time blowing off shore (to cold to recover the kite!). I have checked out george kendall and I don't think you have the room you have up the Hill or at Riverwood.

I am up for somewhere dry, my kite still drying out from last time. So short grass on a hilltop sounds good with no puddles, I only know one place like that.

I'm not going to the hill again soon. 3 times, 3 times pants (means rubbish in english). I just don't want to drive for an hour, pay the toll and still get shitty wind. I might try somewhere more local instead, Hefron park might be ago, who knows. Enjoy your hill guys. When the winds more defo i'll be back.

P.S. Rocket d'you get lost in your shell?

An employee went on holidays for a month, so I have been working both jobs, which if you knew my job is like moving mountains and long hours to meet deadlines. It will be like that most of this month also as i do not work on a computer with internet connection unless i am doing graphics work, thats where I have been.

I also will not be buggying after 2 weekends away for about 3 weeks as I have to go under the knife in a few weeks.

Anyways I hope that is enough info and justification for not being around, if you dont mind im going to get back into my shell where it is nice and warm, and pain free.!

Rocket, not firing on all cylinders!

I'm sorry I didn't see this thread until now. I went to Yarra Bay. The only beach in the metro area I know that faces west and is wide enough to use. I had fun. Wind was nice and smooth. When the tide came up I went to La Perouse. There is a spot/peninsula about the size of a footbal field and that was fun too.

Fyi, at Yarra Baybehind the beach they have turned what was a quarry into a park, not as interesting but a little more room to roam.

Another good thing about Yarra Bay is that it is well lit at night. There are lights from the container terminal, a local sports field, lighs in the park etc etc.

Wind was pretty gusty at Riverwood, like everywhere I guess - but I had a great few hours because it was the first real chance to fly my new fury. Thanks Jon & Aaron for adjusting it so it flew right.

I'm not sure if I flew it or fought with it - the kite seemed to have more control over me at times, but hey ... goood fun. Had a go in a buggy and now I need to get my own. (I was hooked before I had a go, but now I really want more!)

Hey i'd forgotten abut Yarra bay and that new park Rob, and right on my doorstep. The widd will be good there as it gets a chance to smooth out over Botany Bay.

I'm there next time we have west, which seems to be most of winter.

Riverwood was OK a bit gusty and a few puddles but you could avoid them. Good site though loads of room and you can drive up to it too. Maybe if the wind was a bit more south it would be a better site?

Yeah I am up for that this time, I believe they should have that carpark open now, near the yarra bay yacht club so you can drive in pretty close to the point where you can buggy on that big bit of grass overlooking botany bay.

The cemetry is a nightmare, last time i was there months ago, they hadn't opened the park up, but I am certainly up for giving it a go, I would rather slightly gusty conditions over botany bay for a while where I can see the gusts coming on the water., nice view too there btw.

if ROMUECK could add to this thread about the carparking there I would appreciate it since he was there on the weekend.

I was at Yarra Bay today for a few hours - couldn't get to the carpark that I think you're talking about. Gate was closed just near the bend at Baragoola Avenue, so we had to park back behind the yacht club. I don't know if it's different on the weekends, but they must be close to having the whole place open.

It's certainly a well situated carpark for anyone wanting to buggy on that new grassy bit, and the BBQ's down the bottom of the hill may come in handy too.

It's across the bay from Doll's Point, between La Perouse and Port Botany - check it out in the locations section, (it's also called Phillip Bay, named after some guy who had a big boat)

The google map still has it as a quarry but its actually all been grassed and very flat right on the shore at botany bay.

When you say gate? did you mean gate or fence, the last time i was there, there was a 7ft tall security fence on the yarra bay side, hence the drive through the grave yard which I didn't enjoy one bit!

No big fence, just a little gate (locked yesterday). With the gate open, you'd be able to get to a sizeable carpark at the edge of that grassy flat at the top. It's got a few park seats around it's edges, and I wonder why that carpark is there when there is one down the bottom. Are they expecting reasonable numbers of people on the weekends? If they are planning on putting anything else on that area (playground, shelters, tables etc) it will certainly shrink the available area a bit. At the moment it's good and I'll be back there pretty soon.
