3LAD3 Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 Took the 8.5 out yesterday in a little too much wind and have now sprained my ankle. It wasn't too powerful launching and sitting up high, but then I thought I'd try a jump and jump i did!!!! ....... but then I came crashing down. I used to have a 7.8, but this is MUCH more powerful. I'm now out of action for a couple of weeks, but WOW what an awesome kite! Quote
Flexifan Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 ow m8 hope u make a good recovery. You should ahve added a extra option on ur poll. "I'm not lucky enuff to own such a kite due to being a poor student..." because i wudda ticked that one. Lewis Quote
bluntmasa Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 i went out sunday with my blade III 4m and hurt myself after 5 min, stupid me. i was doing pendulum jumps in about 12mph and was about 8ft high and came down a little off course, managed to keep myself from falling over but at the expense that i tore up my left quad, fell over anyway in agony!!!!! lol give it a week i will be ok. Quote
domdino Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 I chipped my ankle bone a few weeks ago by being a plonka and taking my kite out in too heavy winds i went ploughing into an audi's alloy wheel - luckily i managed to aim for its wheel though so i didn't damage the car... if i had of attempted a jump though i would not of come back down. Generally, if you are jumping and there is a constant and steady wind there is no real reason for you to crash down rather than gracefully land... i do stress generally mind you i don't claim to be a guru at the landing procedure but i've certainly advanced greatly since my starting days long ago! So i guess that does make you - like me - a plonka, but its not really a bad thing! Its all a learning curve! Quote
Poseidon Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 Still working on it, I'm off out in a bit with the 10.5.... Quote
Bladez1599968597 Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 Heres me snapping my ankle!!! Put me out of action for 2 weeks http://www.virtual.dsl.pipex.com/ouch.htm Quote
playworker Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 You should've also added the sure-to-be-popular "No - I'm still waiting for my Blade III 4.9"... Quote
Man_in_UK Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 You need to add "will get hurt soon" and then I can vote. Quote

Purple_newt Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 I put my foot in a rabbit hole when getting my 4.9 out of its bag and twisted my ankle!! Does that count?!? Newt Quote
Ally Posted April 11, 2004 Report Posted April 11, 2004 went for a bit of a head scud a few weeks ago. hurt like hell but was flying again after an hour or so. does that count as an injury? Quote
wallis Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 i smashed down on my heel 6 months ago and it still plays up now............... just went out and got a bigger kite Quote
PUTO55 Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 WALLIS I KNOW WHERE YOU ARE COMING FROM! I did something on my heel as well and limped for a month and a half, no x-ray was taken as they thought a fractured bone just needs to repair itseld. That was last June and still plays up if I wear hard soled shoes Quote
rich831 Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 I would like full honours for managing to break my leg just below the knee on a 3m Blade III, that'll be a pendulum jump in just silly strength winds and the ever foolish mistake of not bending ya legs on a heavy landing. Who would of thought that knees really disliked being forwards that much!!!! HEY HO! Back and ready for the summer with a 4.9! Quote
Caramboo Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 I mashed my knee a few weeks back showing off to a passing bit of skirt. Nice floaty 7.2 Blade jump with legs together and pointed out in front of me just for that added acrobatic effect. Glance over at skirt who was suitably impressed, forgot to pay attention to rapidly approaching floor. Blamm. Ah well! Quote
al B Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 last yr was flying my 4.9, wind was crap, had to run back to get the kite back in the air, only ran back and fell into a tractor tyre. ass hurt Quote
fivefoothigh Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 I dont think i could have been anything but unlucky what can you go out and buy a full kevlar suit with titanium ankle reinforcements there is a limit to how safe you can be if it had been ur head then you would be a bit more of a target for some of the guys on here. Some of us have injurys but do you want to be the one that learns from your own mistakes or the mistakes of others...............but of course someone has to make the mistake in the first place. As of yet i am have not injured myself (touch wood) and never really had the oppertunitty too as i have always been sure i can handle what i am flying if not what else is the safty for Quote
Groz Posted April 19, 2004 Report Posted April 19, 2004 nout serious, just banged my head a couple of times. Quote
c_oriordan Posted April 19, 2004 Report Posted April 19, 2004 my heel still hurts from a big landing i made quite recently, knee hurts too....landed with legs a bit too bent and my knee hit a rabbit hole... still flying though. went out today and did some OK jumps...just waiting for the rain to go and the wind to blow Quote
Bill Benson Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Sounds like some PLF (Parachute Landing Fall) instruction would be helpful. The concept is spreading the force of impact to different parts of the body by immediately beginning a roll as soon as you hit the ground. Impacting with you feet and knees together and knees slightly bent reduces the odds of injuring a leg. Make a parachute landing fall by hitting all five points of contact: balls of feet, calf, thigh, buttocks and the push-up muscle i.e. Landing on the balls of the feet first, then rolling to your thigh (either side), then your shoulder and across the upper back. It is very important to smoothly roll through the maneuver. Any awkwardness or poor form reduces the effectiveness of the maneuver. Practicing from the height of a picnic bench until it is reflexive is important, as you will most likely not have time to think about it when you need the PLR. The PLR can dramatically reduce the chances of being injured from a fall. See diagram here: http://www.skydivetulsa.com/images/PLF.jpg See Picture here: http://www.nomi.med.navy.mil/Text/Std/ASTCPens/PLF.htm Quote
treetops Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Blade III 4m last October, was out in very gusty conditions.. Flying along on my airdeck and stopped to go in the other direction. I wasn't watching the kite properly, and next thing I knew I was flying through the air and landed on my head and shoulder ( thank god for the helmet!) Spent 5 hours in casualty waiting for an x-ray. Shoulder still hurts occasionally now! The Power of the Blade.. When it bites you, it bites you! Quote
c_oriordan Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 but.....how can you pull off an amazing jump...with an equally amazing landing with hot girls everywhere sunning their glistening bodies as they watch on in awe... (just taken my blade to school.....!!!) i tried pulling down hard on the handles just before landing and that took a bit of pressure from my heels, but jumping is still a bitch..i tend to fold my kite really easily when i bring it round to the egde of the window for extra power in light winds.... Quote
kev240 Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 Got sore shin from four hours of flying my 8.5, not because of the kite but because me misses kicked me in it when I finally got home, Does that count!!!! 1.5 Bullet 3.5 Bullet 8.5 Blade III Quote
Lil Dick Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 Blade 3 8.5's are really nice kites but if u go out in to much wind you should always really have it in your head that ure going to get hurt on that fly as i found out yesterday when i clattered of the side of a sand dune and wrecked my ankle and also did a huge jump but the kite turned as i was in air and sent me flyin head first into the dune.Never mind it only mean't that i had a few aches and pains this morn. Quote
Stupid Dave Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 A friend of mine was flying a 4m blade 3 when a gust took him to the same height as the top of a rugby post. The kite then luffed and reopened in the middle of the window he was harnessed in and the kite handles had turned in the fall it the went in to a spin he did complete barrel role the on the second turn he hit the floor and broke his hip in 3 places. He is now ok and going for his first flight since on Saturday Quote
